People of Earth Canceled by TBS, Despite Prior Renewal

In a cruel twist of fate, People of Earth won't be back for season three, after all. Though the show was renewed for season three back in September 2017, TBS has decided to reverse their decision and cancel the show, which starred Wyatt Cenac and Ana Gasteyer. Series creator David Jenkins announced the news with this tweet:

Just got word last night: TBS has cancelled People of Earth. Thank you to everyone who was a fan of the show and enjoyed its gentle, amiable sci-fi weirdness. It was an honor sharing this show with you. Let's do it again soon. Love you all. https://t.co/QViyRi0RNF

It's a surprising move rarely seen on television, made even more surprising considering that the series was a solid ratings performer for the comedy-centric cable network and that the third season of the series was already written. The second season of the series averaged a 0.3, down just 8% from the inaugural season. You can see the show's full season two ratings below:
