Get Shorty Season 1 Finale Review

For those of you who chose Option B in the previous review, looks like you were right after all.

S1E10 'Blue Pages'

In this episode, Miles finds out that the real reason his movie was shut down was because it was the victim of an insurance scam. With the help of Amara's men, Miles goes to the head of the studio and forces him to revive the movie. Meanwhile, Amara finds Rick but surprise, surprise, doesn't kill him. Instead he manages to get back together, only to become an informant for the FBI. Lastly, Emma finds out the true nature of Miles' source of income.

For a finale, this episode was pretty tame in comparison to the last episode. Still, getting to see Miles be all badass again was great. I must say I'm surprised about how I felt when Miles found out Emma didn't want to be in the movie. That was a rather heartbreaking moment, possibly the highlight of the whole episode. The second best moment was probably seeing Louis alive and recovering.

Overall, this show was pretty good. Seeing Chris O'Dowd transition from IT nerd to movie producer was initially odd for me but it ultimately worked out because like I said above, he was a badass. Ray Romano however, was disappointing. Drama doesn't really seem to suit him. I thought he might do better than his time on Vinyl but sadly I was mistaken. The main highlight of this entire show however, was Sean Bridger's who pretty much made this show for me. He wasn't very important on his previous show, Deadwood, but he managed to shine on this show and I thank Epix for giving him the opportunity to do so. As for the rest of the cast, they were all good too except for Yago. Screw that guy. I also must thank Davey Holmes, creator and writer of the show for providing a unique spin on Elmore Leonard's novel which was as good, if not better than the 1995 movie.

The last few minutes of the episode provided a decent setup for the next season but whether or not I actually watch it next year depends on my schedule and level of interest. For now, this is my last review for Get Shorty.

Thank you for reading this series and I hope you all continue to follow The TV Ratings Guide for all your news, ratings and random articles.

If you worked for a mob boss and you lost 4 million dollars of her money, would you:

A) Run for the hills
B) Calmly negotiate with her

If you chose B, then you clearly haven't been watching the same show I have.

S1E9 - 'Turnaround'

In this episode, Miles, Louis and Rick all go into a frantic state. Miles and Louis try to take the movie to another studio while Rick goes into hiding inside the woods. Meanwhile, April tries to find out why the movie shut down production while Amara's crew tries to find Miles and Rick.

Game of Thrones tends to usually have the penultimate episode of every season contain some kind of big event and it looks like Get Shorty has taken a page out of Game of Thrones' handbook. Overall the episode was pretty good although I really wasn't interested in Rick's time at his cabin. My main reason for loving the episode was the surprising fight Miles and Louis got into with Yago's men and the events that occurred afterwards. Louis being injured had me screaming internally and praying for his survival. The flashbacks were a nice little touch but the ending was kind of expected considering Miles' condition from the fight. Still I'm really excited for the finale and hopefully this season can end on a good note. (Mostly hopeful for Louis, because he is awesome)

Oh sure Louis, coffee and alcohol are a big no-no for you but killing is OK?

S1E8 'Shooting on Location'

Shooting finally begins on The Admiral's Mistress and problems have already made themselves evident. The lead actress on the film turns out to be a horrible actress and someone lights the set on fire. Meanwhile Rick starts feeling afraid after finding out Amara had all her past lovers killed and Louis finally gets it on with Gladys but not in a conventional way.

I really like the fact that they started shooting. Midway through the show I started thinking that shooting would start in the next season like what happened with Entourage season 4 but fortunately that wasn't the case. Perhaps my favourite part of this episode was the plot twist at the end. I really didn't see it coming especially since it kinda came out of nowhere but this makes me really excited for the last 2 episodes of the season. The scene where Miles and Louis contemplate the death of the actress comes as a close second.

After watching this episode, I would really love to sit at a table read. It appears to be a very lively part of the filmmaking process.

S1E7 'Grace under pressure'

In this episode, Miles uses his shady methods to get the movie's oversized budget approved, the crew have a table read for the film, Rick continues to hang out with Amara, Yago starts dealing drugs in Hollywood, Katie tries to separate Miles from Amara by dealing with her directly and Louis goes on a date with Rick's assistant.

For one, I liked the way the conversation between Amara and Katie took place, especially considering how Katie is just the wife of one of Amara's underlings. Knowing that Katie really cares about Miles enough to deal with Amara has improved my impression of her.

I know I haven't really said anything about the original writer's roommate Nathan so far but seeing how he has become a lead in the movie, it's time to address his presence. While I found him a little too dumb (his stupidity is constantly mentioned in the episode) I found the scenes with him and his parents to be humorous. Though I must admit even I agreed with the other characters on his performance at the table read. He was really good at that part.

Dean Norris feels like he's everywhere these days so it really wasn't a surprise for me when he showed up. His story with Miles felt very short and simple which was just OK for me. In the end, he was just a small obstacle in Miles' path to success

Lastly, I feel bad for Louis again. After the (mostly) positive response from the table read, his date with Gladys turned out to be real awkward. I don't know what's gonna happen with them now but their sad little date has left me wanting to know what happens next.

S1E6 'Epinephrine'

In this episode, Miles goes into panic mode when Amara and her crew come to LA while his family are in town at the same time, Rick becomes Amara's tour guide, and Louis tries to get paid for his "contribution" to the movie. Meanwhile, Yago tries to get information from a wounded enemy.

I felt a lot of Déjà vu when Amara started to mess around with the casting of the movie which makes me think that for a mob boss, Amara sometimes feels pretty childish. Trying to stop Katie from seeing Amara could have been stretched out until the season finale but I'm glad Miles told Katie in this episode itself since that premise could have gotten old very quickly. Lastly, Poor Louis doesn't seem to get as much love as he deserves, but at least now he's got himself a romantic interest so that's nice
