Thursday TV Ratings 12/26/24: The Year 2024 Sinks Below 2023 Rating, College Football Leads, Trivial Pursuit Finale Ties Series High [+ Analysis]


Ratings Analysis: On the day after Christmas, there was little interest in the 2024 installment of ABC's The Year (0.19). The annual recap special dropped from the rerun of High Potential (0.22) that led into it and was more than a full tenth below the 2023 installment (0.30). NBC re-aired Hot 10 of 2024 (0.25) and Dolly Parton's Mountain Magic Christmas (0.14). Repeats of Ghosts (0.21/0.17) and Matlock (0.12) aired on CBS. Fox went with encores of Hell's Kitchen (0.11/0.12). Over on the CW, Scrabble (0.07, +0.03) jumped for its finale, and Trivial Pursuit (0.09, +0.03) also soared. Key: (R) = repeat. (F) = finale.

Wednesday TV Ratings 12/27/23: Kennedy Center Honors Heavily Down, The Year Also Drops, College Football Leads (UPDATED w/Analysis)


Ratings Analysis: The 46th Annual Kennedy Center Honors (0.32) declined by almost 30% from last year's ceremony (0.45) but still beat out E! News Presents NBC's Hot 10 of 2023 (0.24). NBC also had reruns of Magnum P.I. (0.14) and Chicago Med (0.14) that matched The Neighborhood repeat (0.14) that aired on CBS. On ABC, The Year (0.30) was a clear step behind the encore of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune (0.40) that led into it but was only five-hundredths lower than last year (0.35). The Louisville v. USC college football game (0.80) doubled its nearest competitor in the Adults 18-49 demographic and led Fox to a Wednesday win. The CW got a modest result out of WOW - Women of Wrestling (0.04).

Finals Update: College Football: Louisville v. USC (+0.1), The 46th Annual Kennedy Center Honors (+0.1), and the repeat of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune (+0.1) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: ABC's two-hour long 'The Year: 2021' special (0.36) was nearly 30% below the 2020 edition (0.50) and lost out to the rerun of 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.42) that aired before it. CBS had encores of 'The Neighborhood' (0.36), 'Bob Hearts Abishola' (0.31), 'NCIS' (0.26), and 'NCIS: Hawai'i' (0.24). As usual, each rerun declined from the previous one. NBC got modest results out of a presentation of the 2016 DreamWorks film 'Trolls' (0.29) and a rerun of Jimmy Fallon's new series 'That's My Jam' (0.25). Fox's repeats of '9-1-1' (0.27) and '9-1-1: Lone Star' (0.27) had the same average as the encores on the peacock network. The CW leveled up from Sunday's meager ratings thanks to a pair of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' repeats (0.11/0.09) but slipped a bit with 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' (0.06).

Tuesday TV Ratings 12/29/20: The Year 2020 Ties To Tell the Truth Repeat for First, Tell Me a Story Ends Steady (UPDATED)



Preliminary Analysis: ABC took the lead on another quiet evening with a repeat of game show 'To Tell the Truth' (0.5) and the Robin Roberts-hosted recap of the year (0.5). 'The Year' actually beat out what 2019's edition garnered (0.4) while 'To Tell the Truth' bested its last original episode (0.4). CBS had a sturdy set of repeats in the form of 'NCIS' (0.4), 'FBI' (0.4), and 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.4). NBC had an encore of 'The Wall' (0.4) and a double dose of 'Nurses' (0.3/0.2). Fox remained low with repeats of 'The Resident' (0.2) and 'Prodigal Son' (0.2) while The CW aired 'Popstar's Best of 2020' (0.1) and a steady 'Tell Me a Story' finale (0.1).

Finals Update: Repeats of 'To Tell the Truth' (0.6, +0.1), 'The Wall' (0.5, +0.1), and 'The Resident' (0.3, +0.1) adjusted up.
