The Great Indoors Receives Not-So-Great News: Series Canceled After Freshman Season

CBS had decided that the ratings for The Great Indoors wereen't all that great, and they've canceled the series after one season. Considering the series' mediocre ratings and the fact that it was not included in the mass renewal that included Kevin Can Wait and Superior Donuts, this is not a very surprising decision. The Joel McHale sitcom was shows to be very lead-in dependent, hitting a 0.8 in its second of three Monday airings and a 0.7 for its finale. This was a correct prediction for the TV Ratings Guide.

What do you think about the Big Bang lead-out being told to take a hike after one season? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

TV Ratings 5/8/17: Kevin Can Wait Ends Down, The Wall Returns Lower, Great Indoors Goes Out With a Whimper (UPDATED)

A lot of shows were down Monday night, but some were actually up. One example of a small rise was The CW's shows, both of which rose after tying lows last week. Fox's lineup was the exact opposite of that, with both shows down a tenth. CBS has a rough finale night, with every comedy down a tenth. But hey, at least Scorpion was steady. Man With a Plan and Scorpion end next week, so they both have a change to grow (or go lower) next week. Also on the downswing was Dancing With the Stars, which was down a tenth. It lead into another low rated episode Quantico. Over on NBC, they swapped Taken out and put The Wall in. While the Wall easily improved the slot, it also carved out a new series low. The Voice was up a tenth.

Finals Update: Jane the Virgin (+0.1), Gotham (+0.1), and Man With a Plan (+0.1) adjusted up. Quantico adjusted down.

Finals update: CBS comedies Man with a Plan and Superior Donuts each adjusted up a tenth to 1.0, and Scorpion adjusted up a tenth to 1.1. This makes all three shows even with their last originals from two weeks ago, and it makes The Great Indoors's performance look even worse. The table has been updated to reflect the changes, while the analysis below remains unchanged.

TV Ratings 3/27/17: The Great Indoors Hits Low on Special Night, Dancing With the Stars Slips, Superior Donuts Recovers (UPDATED)

Monday night was a night full of drops and gains in the ratings. The Voice on NBC dropped a tenth to tie a season low, while its lead-out Taken was up two tenths. ABC's Dancing With the Stars had a steep four tenth decline while Quantico rose a tenth, though Quantico is a frequent downward adjuster so it may not be able to hold that 0.8. CBS went into repeat mode at 8 and 10, but 9 PM had original episodes of Superior Donuts, which rose a tenth, and The Great Indoors, which went fractional for the first time and was down from 2 Broke Girls' performance last week. The CW's lineup both saw one tenth increases before their time off in the coming weeks. Fox's 24: Legacy rose, but APB slipped to a new low of 0.6.

Finals Update: The Voice (+0.1), The Great Indoors (+0.1), and a Big Bang Theory repeat (+0.1) adjusted up. Jane the Virgin (-0.1), Take (-0.1) Quantico (-0.1), and a Scorpion repeat (-0.1) all adjusted down.
