Saturday TV Ratings 10/29/22: Saturday Night Live Hits Season High, World Series Slips on Night 2, College Football Strong (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Game 2 of the '2022 World Series' (2.42, -0.43) was a little over 15% lower than Friday's opening game (2.85) but still gave Fox a comfortable win on Saturday night. ABC's 'MI St. v. MI' college football game (1.30) was solid in its own right but settled for second place in the 8PM hour. On NBC, a Jack Harlow-hosted 'Saturday Night Live' (0.75, +0.09) posted a higher rating than every other episode from this season. Earlier in the night, reruns of 'Password' (0.12), 'Dateline' (0.18), and 'SNL Vintage' (0.21) were abysmal. CBS had a feeble 'NWSL Soccer Championship' (0.23) and an anemic 10:30PM 'Young Sheldon' rerun (0.06). On the CW, 'Criss Angel's Magic with the Stars' (0.04, -0.01) and 'World's Funniest Animals' (0.04, -0.02) trickled down.

Finals Update: '2022 World Series Game 2' (+0.7) and 'College Football: MI St. v. MI' (+0.2) adjusted up. The repeat of 'Young Sheldon' (-0.1) adjusted down.

Saturday TV Ratings 4/23/22: The Lion King Tops Quiet Saturday Night, Masters of Illusion Stays Invisible (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Though it barely managed a 0.3 rating, ABC's telecast of 2019 film 'The Lion King' (0.30) found itself leading the pack on a quiet Saturday evening. After the movie ended, ABC opted to air another rerun of 'Abbott Elementary' (0.19). NBC had a modest 'Dateline' rerun (0.27) and a slightly heftier 'SNL Vintage' (0.28). CBS had feeble reruns of 'NCIS' (0.11) and 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.16) that likely caused '48 Hours' (0.24, -0.07) to decline by seven-hundredths. Fox's repeats of '9-1-1' (0.09) and 'The Cleaning Lady' (0.07) were at an even more pitiful level. 'Would I Lie To You?' (0.05) was flat on the CW while 'Masters of Illusion' (0.04, +0.01) grew by a hundredth. Reruns of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' (0.06) and 'Illusion' itself (0.04) occupied the 8PM and 9:30PM timeslots respectively.

Finals Update: 'Masters of Illusion' (-0.1), the 'Masters of Illusion' repeat (-0.1), '48 Hours' (-0.1), and the 'NCIS' repeat (-0.1) adjusted down.

Saturday TV Ratings 4/2/22: Saturday Night Live Rises Slightly, Dateline Encore Leads Primetime, 48 Hours Slips (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: NBC's 'Saturday Night Live' (0.83, +0.03) was back in original mode with host Jerrod Carmichael and musical guest Gunna. The sketch-comedy series rose by three-hundredths from the series low it garnered on March 12th (0.80). Reruns of 'Dateline' (0.21/0.27) and 'SNL Vintage (0.23) made up the peacock network's primetime lineup. On CBS, a Whitney Houston special (0.15) made little noise and a 9PM repeat of 'The Equalizer' (0.14) dropped from there. '48 Hours' (0.23, -0.11) lost more than a tenth in the 10PM hour. ABC's encores of 'Shark Tank' (0.16) and 'American Idol' (0.19) bested the CBS reruns. Fox was below both of those networks with repeats of '9-1-1' (0.11) and 'The Cleaning Lady' (0.08). The CW's 'World's Funniest Animals' (0.03, -0.03) crumbled on finale night, dropping by 50% on a week-to-week basis. It was beat out by the 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' encores (0.04/0.07) that came before it and could only match the 9:30PM repeat of itself (0.03).

Finals Update: The repeat of 'Shark Tank' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Screen-Shot-2022-03-13-at-4-16-04-AM

Ratings Analysis: Despite host Zoe Kravitz and musical guest Rosalia putting on quite a show, NBC's 'Saturday Night Live' (0.80, -0.01) inched down to its lowest rating to date. Earlier in the evening, the '2022 Winter Paralympics' (0.17, -0.02) dropped by two-hundredths from Friday's broadcast. A repeat of 'Dateline' (0.18) and 'SNL Vintage' (0.25) occupied the 9PM and 10PM slots respectively. ABC had the strongest offering in primetime with its telecast of the 'Bucks v. Warriors' NBA game (0.64). 'NBA Countdown' (0.26) came in second place in the 8PM timeslot. Fox got some decent mileage out of the 'Big East Tournament Championship' (0.28), the 'Big East' postgame (0.19), and 'Pac-12 Tournament Championship' (0.32). CBS's '48 Hours' (0.28, -0.01) shed a hundredth behind a 'Neighborhood' rerun (0.14), an encore of 'Bob Hearts Abishola' (0.17), and a repeat of itself' (0.24). The CW's 'Great Chocolate Showdown' (0.06) held flat but 'World's Funniest Animals' (0.02, -0.04) plummeted to egregious levels. The 'Funniest Animals' encore (0.05) had more life in it at 9:30PM.

Finals Update: 'NBA: Bucks v. Warriors' (+0.2), 'Pac-12 Tournament Championship' (+0.1), and the repeat of 'Bob Hearts Abishola' (+0.1) adjusted up. 'Big East Tournament Championship' (-0.1), 'Big East Tournament Postgame' (-0.1), and repeats of 'The Neighborhood' (-0.1) and 'Dateline NBC' (-0.1) adjusted down.

Ratings Analysis: ABC used the first day of 2022 to burn off the final two episodes of summer dud 'When Nature Calls' (0.16/0.11). The series posted a new low at 9 and then fell further at 10, going well below its last broadcast from September (0.20). This performance was so pitiful that an 8pm encore of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.40) beat out the combined total of the two 'Nature' episodes. Airing behind middling reruns of dramas 'SWAT' (0.20) and 'FBI' (0.22), CBS's '48 Hours' (0.30, +0.11) picked up a tenth when compared to its last original (0.19). NBC had repeats of 'The Wall' (0.24), 'Dateline' (0.33), and a particularly solid 'SNL Vintage' (0.42). The latter likely benefited from airing right before the 11:30PM rebroadcast of Betty White's 'SNL' episode. Fox had puny repeats of 'I Can See Your Voice' (0.12) and '9-1-1: Lone Star' (0.14). The CW had feeble reruns of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' (0.07/0.05) and 'World's Funniest Animals' (0.05/0.05).

Finals Update: The 9 PM 'When Nature Calls' (+0.1), '48 Hours' (+0.1), and the repeat of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (+0.1) adjusted up.
