SMILF Canceled by Showtime, Crashing Canceled by HBO

Two premium cable comedies that occupy timeslots in the 10 PM hour have been axed today. Neither were particularly strong ratings performers, though both are somewhat surprising anyway.

Showtime's SMILF is down nearly two-thirds from its first season, and was recently the subject of a misconduct investigation into showrunner and star Frankie Shaw. Despite this, the show was allegedly preparing for a third season. Rosie O'Donnell and Miguel Gomez also starred in the series, which had averaged a truly awful 0.058 for its first six episodes so far. The series finale will air on March 31.

HBO's Crashing had a much healthier trend than SMILF, down less than 10% from last year. It looked weak in its premiere, but slowly strengthened and hit a season high for its most recent airing. The series was mentioned by Deadline as looking good for a renewal just a few weeks ago, though a sudden regime change at HBO may have caused those plans to be dumped. The news was revealed by executive producer Judd Apatow on last night's episode of Conan. Over its three seasons, Crashing aired 24 episodes and was one of HBO's weakest shows throughout its run.

Below are the ratings for the current seasons of both series:
