Tuesday TV Ratings 5/18/21: Mixed-ish and Prodigal Tie Lows for Series Finales, The Voice Hits New Low, Superman & Lois Returns with a New Low (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: ABC's 'Mixed-ish' (0.3) ended its two-season run in a resoundingly uneventful manner, tying its series low and previous episode. 'Black-ish' (0.3) and 'Big Sky' (0.4) were steady for their finales as well, but 'Pooch Perfect' (0.3) was down a notch at 8. Recently-renewed 'Resident' (0.4) fell to a new series low for its season finale on Fox, with recently-canceled drama 'Prodigal Son' (0.3) also shedding a tenth for its last ever episode. 'The Voice' (0.5) hit a rotten new low on NBC, but 'This Is Us' (0.8) and 'New Amsterdam' (0.4) were even on a week-to-week basis. 'NCIS' (0.7) and 'FBI' (0.7) were flat on CBS, with 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.5) losing a tenth at 10. After nearly two months off the air, The CW's 'Superman & Lois' (0.1) crashed to its lowest rating yet. 'The Flash' (0.2) matched its last installment at 8.

Finals Update: 'The Voice' (0.6, +0.1), 'The Resident' (0.5, +0.1), 'Pooch Perfect' (0.4, +0.1), 'Prodigal Son' (0.4, +0.1), and 'Black-ish' (0.4, +0.1) adjusted up.

Tuesday TV Ratings 5/11/21: Prodigal Son Steady After Cancellation, This Is Us Stable, NCIS and Blackish Down (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: Leading out of a softer edition of 'The Voice' (0.6), NBC's 'This Is Us' (0.8) was steady for its first episode in a month. 'New Amsterdam' (0.4) tied its last outing at 10, unaffected by its lead-in increasing. On CBS, 'NCIS' (0.6) and 'FBI' (0.6) shed two-tenths as 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.5) ticked down. 'Pooch Perfect' (0.3) and 'Black-ish' (0.3) dropped down to season lows on ABC, with 'Mixed-ish' (0.3) matching those two at 9:30. 10pm drama 'Big Sky' (0.4) was able to build from that miserable group of duds. 'The Resident' (0.5) and recently-canceled 'Prodigal Son' (0.4) were on-par with their week-ago installments on Fox. 'The Flash' (0.2) and 'Supergirl' (0.1) were flat on the CW.

Finals Update: NCIS (+0.1), FBI (+0.1), FBI: Most Wanted (+0.1) and Pooch Perfect (+0.1) adjusted up.

Prodigal Son Canceled by Fox After Two Seasons

Fox is ready to say goodbye to Prodigal Son. The crime drama has been canceled after two seasons. Prodigal Son was one of the lowest-rated series on Fox this season, averaging 0.41 and dropping nearly 50% from its first season. This is the second-worst year-to-year trend of any Big 4 series, behind only Bless the Harts, which Fox also canceled after two seasons. The show remained popular in delayed viewing and on streaming, and was one of the few shows on the network to actually be co-owned by Fox, which was left with very few in-house shows after 20th Century Fox was acquired by Disney in 2019. However, its weak first-run ratings and high hosts were too much to jutify keeping it around. It'll end its two season, thirty-three episode run on May 18. Tom Payne, Michael Sheen, Lou Diamond Phillips, Bellamy Young, Halston Sage, Aurora Perrineau, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Keiko Agena starred in the series. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

Tuesday TV Ratings 5/4/21: Young Rock Finale Steady, NCIS and Prodigal Son Rise, Big Sky Hits Low After Renewal (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: After falling to an egregious new low, 'NCIS' (0.8) enjoyed a nice rebound on CBS. The seasoned procedural gained two-tenths and returned to its position as the night's highest-rated broadcast. 'FBI' (0.7) held flat at 9 but 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.6) gave back a tenth at 10. Fresh off of its renewal, ABC's 'Big Sky' (0.3) dropped to a new series low, airing after encores of 'Black-ish' (0.3) and 'Mixed-ish' (0.3). The freshman drama will need an upward adjustment to match or beat out its previous low (0.37). Earlier in the evening, 'Pooch Perfect' (0.4) held even at a poor number. On NBC, 'Young Rock' (0.5) matched last week's performance for its season one finale. 'New Amsterdam' (0.4) was also flat at 10, with the two originals separated by reruns of 'Young Rock' (0.4) and 'This Is Us' (0.3). Fox saw 'The Resident' post its fourth-straight 0.5 rating while 'Prodigal Son' (0.4) inched up. 'The Flash' (0.2) shed a tenth on the CW as 'Supergirl' (0.1) remained unchanged.

Finals Update: 'Big Sky' (+0.1), 'FBI' (+0.1), 'FBI: Most Wanted' (+0.1), and 'The Resident' (+0.1) adjusted up. This means that 'Big Sky' avoided hitting a new low by one-hundredth.

Tuesday TV Ratings 4/27/21: Kenan Ends Steady, NCIS, Young Rock, New Amsterdam & Big Sky Among Many Shows Hitting New Series Lows (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: On a night where several shows crashed to new lows, CBS's 'NCIS' (0.6) lost a whopping four-tenths from its last episode, marking its lowest rating ever. That mediocre number was still enough to beat out all programs on the other networks. Later in the evening, 'FBI' (0.6) shed two-tenths while 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.6) was only down by one. On NBC, sitcom 'Young Rock' (0.4) fell to yet another new low, now at less than half of its stellar 1.0 debut back in February. 'Kenan' (0.4) was able to hold steady for its season finale, pulling into a tie with 'Rock' for the first time. At 10, medical drama 'New Amsterdam' (0.3) dropped two-tenths behind a 'This Is Us' encore (0.3). ABC's 'Black-ish' (0.3) and 'Big Sky' (0.3) lost one-tenth apiece, with 'Big Sky' posting its third-straight decline since its return. Reality series 'Pooch Perfect' (0.4) and 'Mixed-ish' (0.3) were flat. Fox's 'The Resident' (0.5) was steady, but 'Prodigal Son' (0.3) gave back a tenth. The CW's 'Supergirl' (0.2) was the lone show of the evening to rise a tenth, the superhero drama led out of a repeat of 'The Flash' (0.2).

Finals Update: FBI (+0.1), Young Rock (+0.1), Blackish (+0.1), New Amsterdam (+0.1), and Big Sky (+0.1) adjusted down. Supergirl (-0.1) and the repeat of The Flash (-0.1) adjusted down.
