Katy Keene Canceled by The CW

The second-lowest-rated show on broadcast TV has been canceled, as the CW has canceled Katy Keene today. It was their only show with a fate previously unannounced, and it becomes the rare CW show to be axed. Lucy Hale stars as the titular character in the show, a spinoff of Riverdale. Katy Keene was one of the few new shows to air in an 8 PM slot on the CW, and it didn't make good use of that opportunity, rating a half-tenth lower than the next-lowest-rated 9 PM show Charmed. That was enough to get it canceled. Ashleigh Murray, Katherine LaNasa, Julia Chan, Lucien Laviscount and Jonny Beauchamp star alongside Hale in the series.

Katy Keene: One thing we have to concur - Katy Keene is a linear flop. The second lowest rated show on the CW is a wild card to watch. But wait, pilot season has been disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has seen shows shut down production. Katy Keene was already leaning towards renewal as of the last installment, but the disrupted pilot season makes its renewal more likely. Katy Keene has been upgraded to a likely renewal for the time being.

As far as Stargirl goes, it's a summer show. Therefore, it is not in the table. We'll have that for Summer Renew/Cancel.

Katy Keene: The Riverdale spin-off is in the headline this week for this installment, and we are starting this prediction at "leans renewal", just because recently, CW shows get renewed regardless of ratings. However, it's the lowest rated WB produced show on the CW, and it is in the CBS produced show abyss. Currently averaging a 0.14 in the key A18-49 demo, it's the second lowest rated show on the network. There is still a chance that it will be canceled at the end of the season and this will be a miss on the column, but I'm not taking any chances if I predict cancelation and it ends up being renewed last minute. This is not a win-win situation. Ratings like these are what caused Lucy Hale's previous show Life Sentence to move to Fridays. Being a Riverdale spin-off, CW expected better, but how much better does the network expect Katy Keene to be when its parent show can only muster a 0.2 and recent ratings of All American are higher than it? Believe me, I was harsh on All American last season but it's now near the middle of the pack. But regardless, Katy Keene will be a close call on the prediction table this season, and let's hope I'm not wrong.

Katy Keene Ordered to Series by The CW

Archie Comics-inspired musical pilot Katy Keene has been ordered to series by The CW. It focuses on four twenty-somethings who chase their dreams in New York City, chronicling the origins and struggles of these aspiring artists who are trying to make it on Broadway, the runway, and the recording studio. Lucy Hale, Ashleigh Murray, and Lucien Laviscount star.
