Thursday TV Ratings 10/19/23: ABC Leads Coverage of President Biden’s Address, The Golden Bachelor Drops, The Challenge: USA Rises for Finale (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Coverage of President Biden's address took over the 8 p.m. time slot for the majority of the broadcast networks. ABC led the way in both the Adults 18-49 demographic and in total viewership (0.45 rating/4.65 million). CBS (0.41 rating/3.46 million) took second in the ratings but lost to NBC (0.33 rating/3.57 million) in total viewership. After the address, ABC series 'The Golden Bachelor' (0.45, -0.03) shed a few ticks, while 'Bachelor in Paradise' (0.34, 0.00) tied its week-ago episode. CBS followed the address with 'Buddy Games' (0.28, +0.02), 'Big Brother' (0.50, +0.03), and the finale of 'The Challenge: USA' (0.29, +0.05). All three were up from last week's installments, and the gains actually got bigger as the night went on. Post-Biden, NBC aired a repeat of 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.15), a fading 'Transplant' (0.13, -0.06), and 'Dateline' (0.18). Fox staple 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.33, +0.01) gained a hundredth, but 'LEGO Masters' (0.22, 0.00) could only match last week's outing. The CW offered up reruns of 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' (0.07) and 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' (0.04/0.04).

Finals Update: 'Big Brother' (+0.1) adjusted up. 'Transplant' (-0.1) and the 9 PM repeat of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' (-0.1) adjusted down.

Thursday TV Ratings 10/12/23: Transplant Has Weak Return, Big Brother and Hell’s Kitchen Slip, The Golden Bachelor Leads (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: Medical drama 'Transplant' (0.19) made its return on NBC by losing to both the 'Law & Order: SVU' rerun (0.22) that led into it and the repeat of 'Dateline' (0.21) that aired after it. Though this rating is a good bit higher than its July 2022 finale (0.13), it is far from a solid number. On CBS, 'Buddy Games' (0.26, -0.06) and 'Big Brother' (0.47, -0.10) completely collapsed, but 'The Challenge: USA' (0.24, 0.00) tied its week-ago installment. 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.32, -0.05) lost some ground on Fox, but 'Lego Masters' (0.22, +0.01) actually picked up a hundredth. On ABC, 'The Golden Bachelor' (0.48, -0.09) took a bigger hit in week three than it did in week two but was still the night's highest-rated program. 'Bachelor in Paradise' (0.34, -0.02) shed two-hundredths in the 9 p.m. time slot. The CW aired encores of 'Son of a Critch' (0.04/0.03), 'Run the Burbs' (0.04), and 'Children Ruin Everything' (0.03).

Finals Update: 'Bachelor in Paradise' (-0.1) and 'Transplant' (-0.1) adjusted down, as did repeats of 'Law & Order: SVU' (-0.1) and 'Dateline NBC' (-0.1).

Thursday TV Ratings 10/5/23: Big Brother and The Golden Bachelor Lead, Hell’s Kitchen Rises (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: ABC series 'The Golden Bachelor' (0.57, -0.06) remained a force in week two, even as it dealt with a post-premiere decline. 'Bachelor in Paradise' (0.36, -0.02) inched down in the 9 p.m. hour. 'Buddy Games' (0.32, +0.09) and 'Big Brother' (0.57, +0.04) climbed higher on CBS, while 'The Challenge: USA' (0.24, 0.00) held steady. Fox's 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.37, +0.08) improved greatly on its mediocre premiere, but 'LEGO Masters' (0.21, -0.03) only weakened some more. NBC re-ran 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.17), 'Found' (0.17), and 'Dateline' (0.24). 'FBoy Island' (0.05, +0.01) grew by a hundredth for its CW finale and led into a 'Whose Line' repeat' (0.04).

Finals Update: ‘The Golden Bachelor’ (+0.1), ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ (+0.1), and ‘Big Brother’ (+0.1) adjusted up, while ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ (-0.1) and ‘LEGO Masters’ (-0.2) adjusted down.

Thursday TV Ratings 9/28/23: The Golden Bachelor Starts Strong and Leads the Night, Bachelor in Paradise and LEGO Masters Return to Lows, Big Brother Drops in Timeslot Shift (Final Ratings)

Ratings Analysis: 'The Golden Bachelor' had an incredibly successful launch on ABC, topping the night in both the Adults 18-49 demographic (0.63) and in total viewers (4.36 million). 'Bachelor in Paradise' (0.38) was not nearly as strong at 9 p.m. and lost out to CBS's 'Big Brother' (0.53, -0.12). 'Brother' was down by more than a tenth from last week but also had a lousy lead-in from 'Buddy Games' (0.23, -0.04). 'The Challenge: USA' (0.24, -0.01) shed a hundredth at 10. On Fox, 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.29) and 'LEGO Masters' (0.24) had particularly lackluster starts to the season, with 'Masters' setting a new low. NBC got decent mileage out of the 'People's Choice Country Awards' (0.31), but those viewers did not stick around for a pilot encore of 'The Irrational' (0.15). 'Fight to Survive' (0.05, +0.03) was up significantly for its finale on the CW. 'FBoy Island' (0.04, +0.02) grew by two-hundredths in the 9 p.m. time slot.
