The Quiz with Balls: Fox's new trivia game show premiered last week with a 0.25 in the demo. As sad as it is to say, 0.25 is pretty solid by that network's standards these days. It's higher than any of their live-action scripted shows this season, and it's also higher than four of their in-season reality shows. It also grew from its lead-in, showing that there was some genuine interest in it from the audience and that it didn't simply live off of its lead-in. The real test will come in the next few weeks, when we'll get to see how much its audience will stick with it. Considering that Fox renewed fellow Tuesday shows The Cleaning Lady and Alert after hitting series lows of less than half of The Quiz with Balls' premiere rating, it should have plenty of room to fall. Fox is in an awkward place right now, where they seem to be renewing pretty much anything that's cheap, and The Quiz with Balls likely fits that criteria. It LEANS RENEWAL for now, just because it's so early, but being on Fox will probably get it some major leeway if it holds up in the coming weeks.
Lingo: Of the summer fare that's premiered thus far, this show I'm feeling most negative about. CBS quickly renewed it last year when it premiered, but eventually pulled it from the schedule with episodes left to air. While that second season did end up being filmed, CBS sticking it on Fridays in the summer isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of the show. Its ratings on Fridays haven't warranted a ringing endorsement, either, with a 0.18 last week after a 0.20 the prior week. It's not a complete disaster, but it's not rating any different from repeats on CBS's schedule, and this seems like nothing more than a burnoff. It's a LIKELY CANCELLATION.
