that-s-true-love-elsa-and-anna-club-frozen-37078169-1920-856

Ratings Analysis: CBS's rerun of 'Young Sheldon' (0.41) narrowly topped another evening of encores, but 'United States of Al' (0.32), 'Ghosts' (0.25), 'B Positive' (0.23), and 'Bull' (0.22) slipped noticeably from there. Fox's 'All Madden' (0.38) came within striking distance of 'Sheldon' but ultimately settled for second-place. A 9:30pm repeat of 'Call Me Kat' (0.17) couldn't even retain half of 'Madden'. On ABC, the 2013 film 'Frozen' (0.33) had a rather mediocre showing and was followed by anemic encores of 'Home Economics' (0.17/0.14). NBC went with middling reruns of 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.24/0.27) and 'Law & Order: Organized Crime' (0.25). The CW's encore of the 'iHeartRadio Music Festival' (0.10) performed well by the network's standards.

Finals Update: Repeats of 'Ghosts' (+0.1) and the 10 PM 'Home Economics' (+0.1) adjusted up. The 8 PM repeat of 'Law & Order: SVU' (-0.1) adjusted down.

CBS-TPIR-47-SP-NO-LOGO-858671-1920x1080

Ratings Analysis: On a night with little worth noting, CBS's encore of 'The Price Is Right Celebrates 50 Years' (0.67) was the sole, solid performer in a desolate wasteland of a low-rated reruns. Despite that, a good portion of that audience drifted away by the time the 10pm repeat of 'SWAT' (0.29) arrived. NBC had passable reruns of 'Chicago Med' (0.26), 'Chicago Fire' (0.28), and 'Chicago PD' (0.28) that barely edged out the Fox broadcast of 'Gordon Ramsay's Road Trip' (0.24). Over on ABC, the marathon of 'The Wonder Years' (0.34/0.27/0.24/0.21/0.19/0.18) was almost indistinguishable from Tuesday's 'Black-ish' showcase. The only difference was that 'Wonder Years' consistently declined as the evening progressed while 'Black-ish' managed to rise at a few intervals. The CW was stronger than usual thanks to an encore of 'Dogs of the Year 2021' (0.10) but dipped back down to usual levels with 'World's Funniest Animals' (0.06/0.05).

Finals Update: Repeats of 'The Price is Right Celebrates 50 Years' (+0.1), 'Chicago Med' (+0.1), 'The Wonder Years' at 8:30 (+0.1), and 'Chicago PD' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Unreasonable-Doubt-The-team-races-to-stop-an-active-serial-killer-after-three-women-are-found-weight

Ratings Analysis: On a night with just about nothing original in sight, CBS's rerun of 'FBI' (0.38) performed well enough to outpace the offerings on the opposing networks. Passable encores of 'FBI: International' (0.31) and 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.32) filled out the 9-11pm stretch. In preparation for its upcoming final season, ABC hosted a 'Black-ish' marathon (0.34/0.23/0.25/0.22/0.19/0.23) that featured an episode from nearly every season. The sitcom repeats were modest at best and had the same average as Fox's encore of 'The Masked Singer' (0.24). NBC's rerun of 'American Auto' (0.26) was only a hundredth lower than its previous original, but repeats of 'Grand Crew' (0.18), 'This Is Us' (0.18), and especially 'New Amsterdam' (0.13) reached embarrassing levels. The CW failed to make a dent with 'Popstar's Best of 2021' (0.07) and a pair of 'Masters of Illusion' encores (0.08/0.07).

Finals Update: Repeats of 'FBI' (+0.1), 'American Auto' (+0.1), and the 9 PM 'Black-ish' (+0.1) adjusted up.

capture-pngty2021

Ratings Analysis: ABC's two-hour long 'The Year: 2021' special (0.36) was nearly 30% below the 2020 edition (0.50) and lost out to the rerun of 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.42) that aired before it. CBS had encores of 'The Neighborhood' (0.36), 'Bob Hearts Abishola' (0.31), 'NCIS' (0.26), and 'NCIS: Hawai'i' (0.24). As usual, each rerun declined from the previous one. NBC got modest results out of a presentation of the 2016 DreamWorks film 'Trolls' (0.29) and a rerun of Jimmy Fallon's new series 'That's My Jam' (0.25). Fox's repeats of '9-1-1' (0.27) and '9-1-1: Lone Star' (0.27) had the same average as the encores on the peacock network. The CW leveled up from Sunday's meager ratings thanks to a pair of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' repeats (0.11/0.09) but slipped a bit with 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' (0.06).

Finals Update: 'The Year: 2021' (+0.1) and repeats of '9-1-1' (+0.1), 'The Neighborhood' (+0.1), 'NCIS' (+0.1), and '9-1-1: Lone Star' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: NBC led the way on the day after Christmas with 'Football Night in America' (1.85) and the 'Washington v. Cowboys' NFL game (4.87). The game was a little over two-tenths stronger than the 'Saints v. Buccaneers' broadcast (4.65) from the Sunday prior. CBS's 'NFL Overrun' (5.86) helped '60 Minutes' (1.43, +0.73) climb to a rating slightly higher than its last post-football episode (1.38). A rerun marathon of 'The Equalizer' (0.50/0.36/0.34) lost steam as the evening progressed. ABC had solid encores of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.43) and 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (0.40) but reruns of 'Supermarket Sweep' (0.25) and 'The Rookie' (0.15) were subpar at best. Fox got decent mileage out of 'Merry Elfin' Christmas: Bye, Bye 2021!' (0.36) but repeats of 'The Simpsons' (0.31), 'The Great North' (0.21), 'Bob's Burgers' (0.27), and 'Family Guy' (0.23) were not able to match or build. The CW had abysmal reruns of 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' (0.03) and 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' (0.05).

Finals Update: 'NFL: Washington v. Cowboys' (+1.5), '60 Minutes' (+0.2), 'Football Night in America' (+0.1), and repeats of 'The Equalizer' (+0.1), 'Celebrity Wheel of Fortune' (+0.1), 'Supermarket Sweep' (+0.1), 'The Rookie' (+0.1), 'Bob's Burgers' (+0.1), and 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Saturday TV Ratings 12/25/21: How the Grinch Stole Christmas Solid on Christmas, NBA Leads (UPDATED)
How-the-grinch-stole-christmas-2000-20

Ratings Analysis: Though the Lakers ended up losing to the Nets, ABC's NBA game (1.57) was easily the highest-rated broadcast on Christmas night and helped boost a 10:30pm 'Black-ish' encore (0.61) to a rating well above the majority of its 2021 episodes. Buoyed by a massive NFL game (5.12) that aired outside of primetime, Fox's 'PBC Boxing' (0.66) improved significantly from last week (0.17) and was the #2 telecast of the evening. NBC had sturdy showings of the 1966 animated special 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas!' (0.42) and the 2000 live-action 'Grinch' film (0.47). The first 'Grinch' was seven-hundredths shy of its year-ago performance (0.49) while the second 'Grinch' was only down by three-hundredths from 2020 (0.50). CBS went with tepid repeats of 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.19) and '48 Hours' (0.19/0.22). The CW had an encore of 'iHeartRadio Jingle Ball 2021' (0.07).

Finals Update: 'NBA: Nets v. Lakers' (+0.8), 'PBC Boxing' (+0.1), 'Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas' (+0.1), and the repeat of 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas!' (+0.1) adjusted up. The 10 PM repeat of '48 Hours' (-0.1) adjusted down.

Ratings Analysis: NBC's broadcast of 1946 film 'It's a Wonderful Life' (0.61) barreled past its disappointing showing from twenty days prior (0.23) and bested all other competitors. Though the movie was about 20% below what it garnered last Christmas Eve (0.76), this is still a phenomenal performance for such a widely-accessible feature. Fox's 'WWE Smackdown' (0.48, -0.04) slipped down to second-place after taking the #1 spot last week. On ABC, 'Olaf's Frozen Adventure' (0.40) was six-hundredths behind the last time it aired (0.46) while 'Shrek the Halls' (0.39) was roughly a tenth lower than its 2020 airing (0.5). At 9, the 'Prep & Landing' block (0.38/0.45) rose dramatically from one year prior (0.31/0.28) and was followed by a Christmas-themed 'Shark Tank' encore (0.31). CBS had middling reruns of 'A Holly Dolly Christmas' (0.27), 'Kenny Rogers: All In for the Gamble' (0.28), and 'Blue Bloods' (0.24). The CW's 'Christmas Around the World' encore (0.07) tied the previous Friday's 'Hollywood Christmas Parade' (0.07).

Finals Update: 'Shrek the Halls' (+0.1), 'Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice' (+0.1), 'WWE SmackDown' (+0.1) and repeats of 'It's A Wonderful Life' (+0.1), 'Olaf's Frozen Adventure' (+0.1), and 'Kenny Rogers: All In for the Gambler' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Thursday TV Ratings 12/23/21: Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town Leads a Sleepy Christmas Eve Eve, Fantasy Island Christmas Special OK, Young Sheldon Encore Leads in Viewers (UPDATED)
image

Ratings Analysis: ABC's annual showing of animated special 'Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town' (0.46) was a modest success and more than enough to top a lifeless evening for the major networks. 'A Very Boy Band Holiday' (0.30) and 'CMA Country Christmas' (0.23) dipped a good bit from there. On Fox, a holiday-themed 'Fantasy Island' (0.26) was on-par with the lower-end of its delivery from August and September. CBS had a rerun of 'Young Sheldon' (0.31) and a 'Ghosts' repeat marathon (0.26/0.22/0.20/0.20/0.20) that couldn't scare up much traction. NBC had terrible luck with anemic encores of '5 More Sleeps 'til Christmas' (0.23), 'Trolls: Holiday in Harmony' (0.16), 'Young Rock' (0.15), 'Mr. Mayor' (0.14), and 'Kelly Clarkson: When Christmas Comes Around' (0.15). The CW was only a few hundredths behind the peacock network's weakest offerings with its presentation of 'Silent Night: Song for the World' (0.08).

Finals Update: Repeats of 'Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town' (+0.1), 'Ghosts' at 8:30 (+0.1), 'Kelly Clarkson: When Christmas Comes Around' (+0.1), and 'Young Rock' (+0.1) adjusted up. The repeat of '5 More Sleeps 'til Christmas' (-0.1) adjusted down.

AP21339106656282

Ratings Analysis: CBS led a relatively quiet evening with a solid edition of 'The Price is Right At Night' (0.61) and the 'Kennedy Center Honors' (0.41). 'Price is Right At Night' was down by two-tenths from its year-ago broadcast (0.81) while the 'Kennedy Center Honors' (0.41) grew by six-hundredths compared to its previous telecast (0.35). NBC gave 'Price is Right' a run for its money by airing 2018 film 'Dr. Seuss' The Grinch' (0.54) but fell a bit sort of eclipsing its game-show competitor. The 10pm repeat of 'Michael Bublé's Christmas in the City' (0.35) lost two-tenths from 'Grinch'. ABC settled for third in the 8pm hour with a decent rerun of 'Live In Front of a Studio Audience' (0.42). The alphabet network completely fell off the map after that with feeble encores of 'Home Economics' (0.24) and 'The Chase' (0.21). On Fox, a 'Masked Singer Christmas Singalong' (0.30) attracted few eyeballs and only bested some of ABC's reruns and the CW's lineup. In CW news, Christmas cartoon 'Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer' (0.10) was four-hundredths higher than Saturday's showing (0.06). 'Masters of Illusion: Christmas Magic' (0.10) matched 'Grandma' at 9.

Finals Update: 'The Price is Right At Night' (+0.1) and the repeat of 'Michael Bublé's Christmas in the City' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: Though hardly much of a feat since nearly everything was in repeat-mode, Fox's 'NFL: Regional Coverage' (3.78) beat out the combined total of all other broadcasts of the night (2.85). On ABC, the finale of 'The Bachelorette' (0.74, +0.05) grew by five-hundredths from its previous episode while the 10pm 'After the Final Rose' special (0.58) more than doubled the week-ago 'Queens' (0.24). NBC had rotten reruns of new comedies 'American Auto' (0.22) and 'Grand Crew' (0.17), but 'An SNL Christmas' (0.35) rose significantly from there. CBS found mild success with encores of 'FBI' (0.38) and 'Adele One Night Only' (0.30). Over on the CW, 'Beebo Saves Christmas' (0.05) posted the same rating it did the last time it aired (12/1/21). 'Greatest Holiday Commercials Countdown' (0.06) was two times higher than the December 12th telecast (0.03).

DYN502a-0001r-f-1024x682

Ratings Analysis: ABC took control of Monday night yet again, despite the fact that their 'Vikings v. Bears' NFL game (1.68, -0.18) fell by two-tenths from the 'Rams v. Cardinals' game (1.86) that aired last week. The CW's 'Dynasty' (0.07/0.06) returned to the scene after being off the air for close to three months and improved markedly from its last episode (0.03). CBS had reruns of the 'Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga' special (0.26), 'NCIS' (0.23), and 'NCIS: Hawai'i' (0.20). NBC's encore of 'Annie Live!' (0.28) narrowly edged out that trio. On Fox, it was clear that very few wanted 'The Secrets of Christmas: Revealed' (0.20).

Finals Update: 'NFL: Vikings v. Bears' (+0.3) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: ABC's 2021 broadcast of Julie Andrews film 'The Sound of Music' (0.37) was roughly 40% below the year-ago showing (0.6) and only a hair above the week-ago 'Celebrity Wheel' (0.36). Even with help from 'NFL Overrun' (5.23) and 'The OT' (2.89), 'The Simpsons' (1.15, -0.02) and 'The Great North' (0.62, -0.01) lost two-hundredths and a hundredth respectively on Fox. In contrast, 'Bob's Burgers' (0.58, +0.02) and 'Family Guy' (0.55, +0.05) gained a couple hundredths apiece. Over on CBS, '60 Minutes' (0.70, -0.68) fell by nearly 50% without direct football assistance. TV movie 'Christmas Takes Flight' (0.34) and a rerun of 'FBI: International' (0.16) dropped dramatically from there. NBC's 'Saints v. Buccaneers' NFL game (4.65) dipped by 7% from last week's 'Bears v. Packers' match-up (5.00). On the CW, 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' (0.05, -0.01) shed a single hundredth and led into an abysmal edition of 'The Black Pack: We Three Kings' (0.02).

Finals Update: 'NFL Overrun' (+1.8), 'The Sound of Music' (+0.1), 'The Simpsons' (+0.1), 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' (+0.1), 'NFL: Saints v. Buccaneers' (+1.1), 'Bob's Burgers' (+0.1), and 'Family Guy' (+0.1) adjusted up. 'The OT' (-0.5) and 'Christmas Takes Flight' (-0.1) adjusted down.

Saturday TV Ratings 12/18/21: Saturday Night Live Drops for Episode Watered-Down by COVID, College Football Leads but Much Weaker, Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer Steady with Repeat (UPDATED)
19snl-article-Large

Ratings Analysis: A last-minute COVID outbreak derailed much of what was planned for the winter finale of NBC's 'Saturday Night Live' (0.89, -0.07), likely causing the series to lose seven-hundredths from last week's Billie Eilish episode. Though this Paul Rudd-hosted 'SNL' was little more than a glorified clip-show and arrived without planned musical guest Charli XCX, it was somehow able to avoid posting a new series low. A few hours prior, encores of 'The Wall' (0.21) and 'Dateline' (0.30) were two-hundredths higher than the week before, but 'SNL Vintage' (0.32) lost three-hundredths. Over on ABC, the 'Utah State vs. Oregon State' college football game (0.49) outpaced all non-'SNL' broadcasts and gave the alphabet network the strongest overall average of the evening. Leading out of feeble repeats of 'The Equalizer' (0.14) and itself (0.16), CBS's '48 Hours' (0.19, -0.15) crashed to its lowest rating of the season. On Fox, 'PBC Fight Night' (0.17) was roughly on-par with the '9-1-1' reruns from the previous Saturday. The CW had meager showings of 'Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer' (0.06) and a Christmas edition of 'World's Funniest Animals' (0.08).

Finals Update: 'College Football: UT St. v. OR St.' (+0.1) adjusted up. '48 Hours' (-0.2) and repeats of 'The Equalizer' (-0.2) and '48 Hours' (-0.1) adjusted down.

Ratings Analysis: As 'Shark Tank' (0.48, -0.02) slipped to a new season low on ABC, Fox's 'WWE Smackdown' (0.52, +0.02) inched up and topped the night for the first time in over a month. 'Tank' was followed by an encore of '20/20' (0.30). In anticipation for its upcoming sequel, NBC aired the 2016 animated feature 'Sing' (0.39) and ended up improving from last week's edition of 'The Wall' (0.35). Despite the higher rating in the 8pm slot, 'Dateline' (0.32, -0.05) dropped by five-hundredths in the 10pm hour. CBS's holiday-themed 'The Greatest #AtHome Videos' (0.20/0.18) was a complete dud and got bested by a rerun of 'Blue Bloods' (0.24) that came after. The '89th Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade' (0.07) was one-hundredth stronger than the week-ago 'Nancy Drew' (0.06) on the CW.

Finals Update: 'Shark Tank' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Ratings Analysis: ABC's 'Station 19' (0.62, +0.07) and 'Grey's Anatomy' (0.61, +0.07) enjoyed some much-needed relief for their midseason finales. Both dramas were up by seven-hundredths and outdid the nasty lows they posted a week prior. In contrast, 10pm drama 'Big Sky' (0.27, -0.03) lost three-hundredths and slipped to its lowest rating to date. CBS had mediocre reruns of 'Young Sheldon' (0.42), 'United States of Al' (0.27), 'Ghosts' (0.29), 'B Positive' (0.24), and 'Bull' (0.22) that demolished NBC's 'Women of Worth' (0.18) and 'Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors' (0.20). Fox's 'Chiefs v. Chargers' NFL game (4.63) was almost nine-tenths above the 'Steelers v. Vikings' game from last Thursday (3.78). The CW got the same rating out of a 'Dogs of the Year' special (0.09) and an original 'Legacies' (0.09, +0.01).

Finals Update: 'NFL: Chiefs v. Chargers' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Wednesday TV Ratings 12/15/21: Kenan and Mr. Mayor Hit New Lows for Holiday Specials, Young Rock Special Ties Low, Survivor and The Masked Singer Steady for Finales (UPDATED)
1pick121221

Ratings Analysis: For the third day in a row, NBC dealt with comedy misfortunes as another round of sitcom launches ranged from just passable to completely abysmal. 'Young Rock' (0.51) was the strongest of the uninspiring bunch but was only five-hundredths above its season one low. 'Kenan' (0.36) followed that up by merely tying its series low and suffered a humiliating loss to a repeat of 'The Wonder Years' (0.37) on ABC. 'Mr. Mayor' (0.35) returned in even worse shape than the other two, coming in a full tenth behind its previous low and well below the 0.5s it usually managed in early 2021. 'A Very Chrisley Christmas' (0.26) and a Kelly Clarkson Christmas special (0.23) only slipped from there. On CBS, 'Survivor' (0.99, +0.08) gained nearly a tenth for its finale and led into a solid reunion special of itself (0.69). Fox's finale of 'The Masked Singer' (0.99, +0.15) was able to tie 'Survivor', and the 8pm 'Masked Singer' clip-show (0.84) was well above the post-finale 'Survivor' special. ABC had respectable reruns of 'The Goldbergs' (0.45) and 'The Wonder Years' (0.37), but 'The Conners' (0.23) and 'Home Economics' (0.23) were on the meager side, so much so that a 10pm encore of 'The Chase' (0.25) improved from the 9pm pair. The CW had an 'iHeartRadio Jingle Ball' (0.12) but forgot to send out the invitations.

Finals Update: 'Survivor' (+0.1), 'The Masked Singer' (+0.1), 'Kenan' (+0.1), 'Mr. Mayor' (+0.1), 'A Very Chrisley Christmas' (+0.1), and repeats of 'The Goldbergs' (+0.1) and 'The Chase' (+0.1) adjusted up.

CSI: Vegas Renewed by CBS

CSI: Vegas Renewed by CBS

A week after its first season finale, one of this fall's "new" scripted series has secured a second season. CSI: Vegas, a revival/reboot of the long-running and highly successful 2000s crime procedural drama, CSI, has been renewed by CBS. Is first season, which consisted of only ten episodes, was one of the network's lowest-rated series, but it remained impressively steady throughout its run and held nearly all of its Tough as Nails lead-in (retaining 98% of that show's average over the season). William Petersen, who starred in the original series and returned for the first season of Vegas, will not be back in an on-screen capacity in season two. Petersen's fellow star from the original series, Jorja Fox, is not signed on for the second season, but a return for her remains a possibility. Other stars, including Paula Newsome, Mel Rodriguez, Matt Lauria and Mandeep Dhillon, are confirmed to return. CSI: Vegas is the second freshman series to score a renewal in the 2021-22 TV season, following La Brea, which also had a short ten-episode first season.

Tuesday TV Ratings 12/14/21: The Voice Ends Steady, Grand Crew Weak in Hour-Long Preview, I Can See Your Voice Holiday Special Hits Low, FBIs Hit New Season Highs (UPDATED)
Screen-Shot-2021-12-15-at-3-29-25-AM

Ratings Analysis: NBC just couldn't seem to catch a break in the sitcom department as the series premiere of new comedy 'Grand Crew' (0.40/0.30) was only slightly stronger than the Monday-night launch of 'American Auto' (0.36/0.27). Like 'Auto', 'Crew' dropped by 25% between episodes and fell below the two-million mark in total viewers for its second installment. Though 'Grand Crew' did not have the luxury of being the direct lead-out to 'The Voice', this performance is still unsatisfactory and does not bode well for its future. At 9, the season finale of 'The Voice' (0.70, -0.04) lost four-hundredths but more than doubled the 8:30pm episode of 'Crew'. On CBS, 'FBI' (0.75, +0.13) and 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.69, +0.19) both shot up to new season highs, with 'FBI' managing to top the night altogether. An encore of 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.37) closed out a victorious evening for the eye network. ABC's 'The Bachelorette' (0.69, -0.04) picked up four-hundredths, but 'Queens' (0.24, -0.10) slipped to a series low. On Fox, a holiday edition of 'I Can See Your Voice' (0.33) was nearly 60% behind its previous low-point. After that disappointing return, 'Gordon Ramsay's Road Trip' (0.21) shed five-hundredths from Monday's outing. 'The Flash' (0.17) held even on The CW, but 'Riverdale' (0.06, -0.01) was down a tick.

Finals Update: 'FBI' (+0.1) adjusted up.

Monday TV Ratings 12/13/21: American Auto Off to a Slow Start, The Voice Steady, NFL Monday Night Football Leads (UPDATED)
Autoshowvp

Ratings Analysis: NBC's new sitcom 'American Auto' (0.36/0.27) completely failed to move the needle for its hour-long debut. The comedy couldn't even retain half of 'The Voice' (0.73, +0.02) and dropped by 25% from its first episode at 10:30pm. It's safe to say that viewers are not interested in the peacock's network's latest sitcom effort. On the CW, 'All American' (0.24, +0.05) managed to climb to its highest rating of the season. '4400' (0.09, +0.01) inched up in the 9pm slot. Though his programs usually perform well for the network, Fox's 'Gordon Ramsay's Road Trip' (0.26) did not make any meaningful noise and fell behind CBS's encores of 'The Neighborhood' (0.41) and 'Bob Hearts Abishola' (0.33). The eye network followed those sitcom reruns with repeats of dramas 'NCIS' (0.27) and 'NCIS: Hawai'i' (0.24). ABC's broadcast of the 'Rams v. Cardinals' NFL game (1.86) gave the alphabet network an easy win.

Finals Update: All shows held their preliminary ratings.
