Friday TV Ratings 3/28/25: World Figure Skating Championships Rise from 2024, March Madness Also Rises, RuPaul’s Drag Race Drops [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: A 0.15 rating was all that NBC's airing of the World Figure Skating Championships could manage, but that still served as a 25% improvement on last year's broadcast (0.12). On CBS, coverage of March Madness (1.59/1.85) was up noticeably from Thursday (1.37/1.60). ABC's reruns of Shark Tank (0.17) and 20/20 (0.21) trumped Fox's UFL broadcast (0.15) in the key demo. Penn & Teller (0.07, +0.03) and Masters of Illusion (0.05, +0.01) were on the rise on the CW. Key: (R) = repeat.

FOX Renew/Cancel 10: Alert Won’t Go Missing Just Yet + FOX Renew/Cancel March Madness Continues!

Predictions for 03/29/25

Below are the March 29th renew/cancel predictions for the Fox network in the 2024-25 television season. The numbers listed in the table are the Nielsen rating low, average, and high for each respective program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The "Y2Y (year-to-year) Change" column compares a show's current average to its average from the previous season.

Alert: Missing Persons Unit: In 2024, Alert: Missing Persons Unit was one of the weakest shows on broadcast television, finishing out its sophomore season with an abysmal 0.11 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. In 2025, Fox's stock has dropped enough that Alert no longer stands out as some low-rated outlier. On premiere night, the procedural drama posted a 0.17 rating and built on its Cleaning Lady lead-in. Considering where it left off, this is a relatively fine start for the series. Its performance on Hulu was also noticeably better than The Cleaning Lady this week, meaning it has an edge over its lead-in in both live ratings and streaming. Though it hardly earned a renewal last season, it has clearly leveled up to some degree. Because of these factors, Alert is Likely to be Renewed. This show comes with a low cost, and this network clearly need something to plug into a low-priority time slot during the back-half of the season. Fox will gladly take it.

The Cleaning Lady: In its season four premiere, The Cleaning Lady returned with a 0.15 Adults 18-49 rating, dropping 25% from last year's start. This becomes even worse when looking at the half-hour breakdown, as the series dipped all the way to a measly 0.12 by 8:30 (Programming Insider). On the streaming front, the crime drama only appeared in the Hulu top 15 once this week, whereas Alert made two appearances and charted higher. Though it cannot be considered completely dead on a network like Fox, it does feel like this may be the end of the road. Fox already has Doc and Murder in a Small Town for next season, and they are likely to pick up at least one or two new dramas. As a result, The Cleaning Lady is Likely to be Canceled. If Fox is going to keep one of these dramas around, it will most likely be Alert. The Cleaning Lady just doesn't have the ratings prowess or streaming presence to stick around.

Fox Renew/Cancel March Madness continues!

Round 1 voting is officially over for FOX Renew/Cancel March Madness. One major theme in this round was that the new-generation cartoons got completely obliterated. In their respective match-ups, The Great North and Universal Basic Guys each received a little more than 30% of the vote, with neither gaining enough support to advance to the next round. Things were even worse for Krapopolis and Grimsburg, as they took in just 15% and 13% respectively. The legacy cartoons fared much better. Family Guy, of course, completely demolished Krapopolis, taking in almost 85% of the vote. The Simpsons comfortably beat out its Cleaning Lady challenger, garnering 57%. And Bob's Burgers just barely scraped by, retaining just under 52% in a heated match with Accused.

With that said, round 2 voting is now under way! Make sure to vote for your favorite shows to ensure that they advance to the semi-finals. Polls will close on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

CBS Schedulogy: Predictions for CBS’s 2025-26 Schedule

The Ratings Junkie Thursday, March 27, 2025

Wednesday TV Ratings 3/26/25: The Conners Returns Higher than Shifting Gears, The Amazing Race and The Masked Singer Drop, Chicago PD and The Floor Rise [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: The Conners (0.34) was back on ABC for one last season and, at least on premiere night, looked surprisingly healthy. In its return, the long-running sitcom was a few ticks above its 2024 finale (0.30) and beat last week's Shifting Gears closer (0.32). After ConnersAbbott Elementary (0.34, 0.00) tied its week-ago installment, but What Would You Do? (0.14, -0.05) dropped at ten. On NBC, Chicago Med (0.35, -0.05) and Chicago Fire (0.31, -0.03) declined in their respective returns, but Chicago PD (0.39, +0.12) surged at ten. On CBS, Survivor (0.72, -0.04) was down slightly, but The Amazing Race (0.29, -0.14) plummeted. The Masked Singer (0.34, -0.02) dipped on Fox, while The Floor (0.31, +0.05) bounced back. Wild Cards (0.04, -0.02) slipped on the CW, but Good Cop/Bad Cop (0.05, +0.02) climbed to a new high. Key: (P) = premiere. (R) = repeat.

Tuesday TV Ratings 3/25/25: The Cleaning Lady Returns Steady, Alert Rises in Premiere, The Irrational Ends Higher [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: In its Fox return, The Cleaning Lady (0.15) was a hundredth above its May 2024 finale (0.14), but the series trailed its season three premiere rating (0.20). In the 9 p.m. hour, Alert: Missing Persons Unit (0.17) was only a hundredth below its year-ago premiere (0.18) and noticeably improved on its season two finale (0.11). On NBC, St. Denis Medical (0.24, -0.05) and Night Court (0.19, -0.02) declined, but Deal or No Deal Island (0.23, +0.02) and The Irrational (0.17, +0.04) were up for their respective finales. Will Trent (0.35, +0.02) grew on ABC, but The Rookie (0.31, 0.00) could only match last week's rating. At ten, Bad Romance (0.15) debuted in unremarkable fashion. CBS aired reruns of FBI (0.20) and Watson (0.14/0.14). WWE NXT (0.16, +0.01) ticked up on the CW. Key: (P) = premiere. (R) = repeat. (F) = finale.

Monday TV Ratings 3/24/25: The Bachelor Soars for Finale, NCIS: Origins Drops After Break, The Hunting Party Sinks to New Low [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: ABC's The Bachelor (0.59, +0.22) soared on finale night, making it Monday night's highest-rated program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. On NBC, The Voice (0.35, -0.04) and The Hunting Party (0.14, -0.06) both slipped, with the latter sinking to a new low. The Neighborhood (0.33, -0.08), Poppa's House (0.29, -0.03), and NCIS: Origins (0.27, -0.06) all dropped on CBS. NCIS (0.35, 0.00) held steady. Extracted (0.22, +0.02) was up on Fox, but Rescue: HI-Surf (0.15, -0.02) faded away. All American (0.05, -0.01) dipped on the CW. Key: (R) = repeat. (F) = finale.

Watson Renewed for Season Two

Watson is scrubbing in for season two, as the medical mystery drama has been renewed by CBS. The series was given an early display of confidence when it debuted back in January, with CBS airing it behind the AFC Championship game. It returned a month later with modest ratings, averaging 0.27 for the six episodes that aired in its regular time slot, making it among the lowest-rated scripted series on CBS. Despite that, its delayed ratings and streaming performance have been solid enough for CBS to give the show a second chance. Beyond its own performance, the series' case for renewal was assisted by the amount of shows already canceled by the network, with unowned series like SWAT, FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted, and veteran drama Blue Bloods, already confirmed to be on their way out this season. Watson is owned by CBS, with network ownership growing in importance in recent seasons. The series comes from the same creative team as CBS's previous Sherlock Holmes adaptation, Elementary, though it is otherwise unrelated. Morris Chestnut stars as the titular doctor, alongside Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Ritchie Coster, Richelle Aytes and Inga Schlingmann. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide. With this renewal, only Poppa's House and The Equalizer await renewal decisions.

Sunday TV Ratings 3/23/25: Family Guy Rises, Suits LA, Tracker and American Idol Drop, March Madness Jumps to Another 2025 High, The White Lotus Stable [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: Fox was up across the board on Sunday night, as Family Guy (0.21, +0.05), Grimsburg (0.15, +0.02), The Great North (0.14, +0.01), and Krapopolis (0.14, +0.02) all bested their week-ago installments. On ABC, America's Funniest Home Videos (0.39, -0.11), American Idol (0.40, -0.07), and The $100,000 Pyramid (0.19, -0.02) all declined. CBS hit a new 2025 high with its March Madness coverage (2.42), leading the network to another effortless victory in the key demographic. That gave 60 Minutes (0.75, +0.20) a significant boost, but Tracker (0.48, -0.08) actually dropped. Watson (0.29, -0.02) and The Equalizer (0.21, -0.01) were also down. The Americas (0.30, -0.05), Suits LA (0.17, -0.02), and Grosse Pointe (0.11, -0.02) weakened on NBC. The CW aired a rerun of Whose Line (0.03) and the film My Cousin Vinny (0.03). Key: (R) = repeat.

Saturday TV Ratings 3/22/25: March Madness Jumps to 2025 High with BYU/Wisconsin Game, NHL on ABC Struggles, Jenna’s First Love Decent on Hallmark [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: On an otherwise quiet Saturday night, March Madness (1.68) soared on CBS and was easily the top-rated telecast of the evening. ABC got a modest rating out of its NHL broadcast (0.15), putting it relatively on-par with NBC's encores of Dateline (0.14) and Saturday Night Live (0.16). Fox aired low-rated repeats of Next Level Chef (0.06) and Farmer Wants a Wife (0.06). The CW went with The Go-Go's (0.04). Key: (R) = repeat.

ABC Renew/Cancel Week 18: Shifting Gears Parks Its Season as a Lock for Renewal + ABC Renew/Cancel March Madness Continues

An ABC freshman wrapped its season last week, meaning it's time for me to give what will likely be my final thoughts on the series' renewal odds for this season. Plus, ABC Renew/Cancel March Madness kicks into full gear, as either Doctor Odyssey or Grey's Anatomy advance from last week's play-in round, as the Elite Eight round begins!

Friday TV Ratings 3/21/25: March Madness Declines from Opening Day, Happy’s Place Sinks to New Series Low for Finale, Shark Tank Also Drops [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: CBS's March Madness coverage (0.79/0.66) was down markedly from Thursday (1.42/0.94), but the network still topped broadcast on Friday night. That clearly took a toll on the other networks, as NBC's Happy's Place (0.20, -0.10) lost a full tenth on finale night and set a new series low. ABC mainstays Shark Tank (0.20, -0.11) and 20/20 (0.17, -0.11) dropped in a similar manner, but Dateline (0.21, 0.00) was surprisingly resilient. Penn & Teller (0.04, 0.00) and Masters of Illusion (0.04, 0.00) were also steady on the CW. Fox got nothing out of its NASCAR broadcast (0.13). Key: (R) = repeat. (F) = finale.

FOX Renew/Cancel 9: Animal Control’s Services Are No Longer Needed + FOX Renew/Cancel March Madness Voting Begins!

Predictions for 03/22/25

Below are the March 22nd renew/cancel predictions for the Fox network in the 2024-25 television season. The numbers listed in the table are the Nielsen rating low, average, and high for each respective program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The "Y2Y (year-to-year) Change" column compares a show's current average to its average from the previous season.

Things have been eerily quiet for Animal Control since it wrapped up its third season on March 13th. On finale night, the Joel McHale sitcom could only match its Adults 18-49 series low (0.13), even as its Next Level Chef lead-in (0.24) gained a hundredth. This is definitely not a promising sign for an aging veteran that the network has yet to renew. In 2024, Fox handed Animal Control a third-season pickup before its second season even began. This year, no such news has materialized. And while the show's streaming numbers may have been respectable at one point in time, it could not even crack the Hulu top 15 during the week of its finale.

But what makes matters worse for Animal Control is that Fox currently has multiple comedies in development for next season (Daddio, First Class Friends, Thunderjacks, an untitled Jim Belushi project). They recently added to that pile with the news that a Ken Jeong vehicle is in the works, as well as Almost Paradise featuring Brooke Shields. There's no guarantee that Fox will pick up all these sitcoms, but the fact that so many are under consideration makes it clear that they want to reinvent their live-action comedy brand. In the event that a handful of these titles make it to series, it's highly unlikely that they'll have room for Animal Control

It's also worth mentioning that a live-action Fox sitcom has not made it to four seasons since The Last Man on Earth, a show that ended almost seven years ago. Animal Control could beat the odds, but it's more likely that it will follow the path of Call Me Kat, another comedy that gradually weakened during its three-season run. Animal Control's low numbers and non-existence streaming presence make it a prime candidate for cancellation. Thus, the sitcom is now Likely to be Canceled

Going Dutch also closed out its season on March 13th. The freshman comedy ended with a new series low, dipping to a meager 0.11 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. Considering that a cost-effective reality series like Farmer Wants a Wife can causally return with better numbers, it makes no sense for Fox to keep Dutch around. Fox has not been shy when it comes to handing renewals to first-year programs. Doc and Murder in a Small Town just got them earlier this year. The network has six comedies in development, a potential American Dad! pickup, and a mountain of reality offerings. Like with Animal Control, there's simply no room for Dutch. The series remains Likely to be Canceled

What’s Trending on Streaming: Daily Trending Lists for Hulu, Disney+, Peacock, Paramount+ and Max from March 16-March 22

It was another busy day on streaming, with several new entries on the chart this week from Hulu and Paramount+, while other streaming powerhouses continued their seasons and battled to top their respective streamers' charts!

Sound Off! March 22, 2025: FOX Tells Dad Jokes and Could Expand Animation As TBS and Cable Sell Out

What is it with networks turning their backs on scripted programming?  Just yesterday, representatives from TBS announced they were declining additional episodes after the season 21 of American Dad finale which airs on Monday, March 24.  The leading cable network, known in past lifetimes as cable's super station, acquired American Dad in 2014 as FOX sought to shake up their Animation Domination block.  The series continued successfully for another 10 seasons on TBS, rating highly until recent seasons.  Ratings were not to blame per se but rather the network decided to do away with original scripted programming, because filler reality shows like Impractical Jokers are FAR superior.  Right....

15 years ago, cable networks had an embarrassment of riches with hit programming which paved the way for hits such as Bates Motel, Breaking Bad, American Horror Story and Walking Dead.  During this trend, American Dad found the perfect niche on TBS which invested in securing original comedies.  Flash forward to the end of the decade, and several cable networks decided to turn their backs on scripted programming following decreasing subscriptions from fed-up viewers tired of price increases and cutting the cord.  While alternative services such as DirectTV Now, YouTube and Sling displayed cable networks, price hikes hit all providers and cancellations continued to ensue.  First, networks such as A&E pulled their name out of the scripted runners instead shifting to unscripted.  It seemed like a small trickle of what was to come.

Only 5 short years ago, original scripted series could be located on several channels from not only TBS and TNT, but also FX, USA, TV Land, Freeform, SyFy and too many worthy mentions.  After several scandalous mergers such as the Warner Bros./Discovery consolidated and caused divides, cable networks opted to cut costs and turned off the free-flowing faucet of creative scripted series.  And now, TBS, once the gold standard which helped found and drive cable, joins them and turned their backs on American Dad.

Out of this insulting dismissal, a beacon of hope has come for broadcast TV.  FOX, which is in ruins with aging animated series, underwhelming dramas and too many frivolous unscripted series to count, has a chance to enhance their sagging lineup.  True, majority of the "successful" animated series are all over 15 seasons and the newbies such as critically panned Krapopolis proliferating over the newer entries, it could lead to an expansion on other evenings or building a sturdier Sunday lineup throughout the season.  Given NBC is out of the ring with scripted programming on Tuesdays and CBS apparently needs to rebuild following discarding the FBI spinoffs, FOX may have a fertile ground to regrow the ruins of this evening.

FOX has opted against moving The Simpsons, despite years earlier they used it as the perfect weapon to take a bite out of Must-See-TV Thursdays and juxtaposed it against aging hit The Cosby Show.  Would moving Simpsons to Tuesday at 8pm for the earlier part of the season during NFL present a glowing opportunity to not only allow viewers to recommit to the aged series without games disrupting?  It has lost much of lead-in power in recent seasons to launch hits, but may be paired nicely during the earlier portions of the season with Family Guy in a power lineup.  And over on Sundays, let viewers fall in love with American Dad again on Sundays at 8pm, followed by a newer series sandwiched between Bob's Burgers at 9:00 and another filler after.

This configuration would not only allow the weaker of the animated helpings enjoy the NFL-inflated numbers, but also call upon a strategy CBS used in the early 2010's when they were seeking to colonize a new Thursday Night evening of comedies and sent The Big Bang Theory on a train to a new evening where its audience amassed.  CBS moved sturdy hits Two and a Half Men and TBBT to 8:00 on Thursdays, branding it as America's best comedy hour.  The strategy worked as ABC struggled for years to locate a hit during that hour, and NBC lost its branding dominance of Must-See-TV.  As the block gained momentum, CBS split the comedies with TBBT anchoring 8:00 and Two and a Half Men holding down 9:00 during the 2013-14 season.  Results were mixed as Two and a Half Men aged, but it did allot CBS to hold a solid bed of two hours of comedies straight through to 2022.

The move of course would not be permanent for Simpsons, which could slide back to Sundays in February and allot another show to take their timeslot (or rotate American Dad).  CBS used rotation powers with The Big Bang Theory after acquiring Thursday Night Football for the first 5 weeks of the season starting in 2014, rotating TBBT to Mondays to lead the block and establish newer pilots on that evening.  While Simpsons doesn't quite possess the power to launch new series, it could present comfort food paired with fellow aging companion Family Guy in a Tuesday colony and help FOX give its series longer displays of episodes.

Can the animated series help bring FOX into a positive chapter and give it some clout again?  And would moving a worthy and strong show like The Simpsons to Tuesdays help re-energize not only FOX's tired lineup but get viewers to pay attention again?  Sound off and pick a bone with conversations in the comments below.

Thursday TV Ratings 3/20/25: Farmer Wants a Wife Returns Stable, March Madness Starts Down from 2024, SVU Drops to Series Low [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: At least on premiere night, Fox's Farmer Wants a Wife (0.20) was a marked improvement on the comedies that previously occupied the 9 p.m. hour. Earlier in the evening, Next Level Chef (0.28, +0.04) beat out last week's episode. On ABC, dramas 9-1-1 (0.40, -0.01) and Doctor Odyssey (0.24, -0.01) shed a hundredth apiece. Grey's Anatomy (0.23, +0.04) recovered at ten. Law & Order (0.26, -0.01) and Law & Order: SVU (0.27, -0.05) declined on NBC, but Found (0.22, +0.04) gained momentum. CBS led the way with March Madness coverage (1.42/0.94). On the CW, Police 24/7 (0.06, +0.01) and Crime Nation (0.04, +0.01) each gained a hundredth. Key: (P) = premiere.

American Dad! Canceled by TBS, Moving Back to Fox

TBS is about to be estranged from its American Dad. After ten years on the cable network, the Seth MacFarlane animated sitcom has been canceled, as TBS continues to move away from original scripted program, and away from its previous brand identity. American Dad's run is not necessarily over yet, as the series is being shopped to other networks, and is owned by Disney, which has several cable and streaming networks of its own. The series began as a Fox cartoon, airing eleven seasons on the network before being canceled and saved by TBS. The show was a ratings success for TBS, and enjoyed a lengthy run, before its future on the network was jeopardized by a change in programming strategy, with its most recent renewal coming before Warner Bros. merged with Discovery. It was the last remaining scripted series on the network. Ratings for American Dad were unspectacular this season, with a 0.07 average - down 30% from its previous season, though not all that far off from the ratings of some of Fox's ongoing lower-rated animated sitcoms. Wendy Schaal, Scott Grimes, Rachael MacFarlane, Dee Bradley Baker, Jeff Fischer and Patrick Stewart also star in the series. Its final episode on TBS will air March 24. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

Update: American Dad! is expected to return to its original home, Fox, for its next season, hours after the confirmation of its TBS cancellation. A deal for the move is being finalized now, and is expected to keep the show on Fox for several seasons.
