NBC Renew/Cancel Week 8: Aging The Blacklist Remains Light Favorite for Renewal

Reddington-on-The-Blacklist-Season-9-Episode-6
It's been a month since our last update, and little has changed at NBC. However, with 2021 approaching its end, it does still feel like an appropriate time for a new update, to see where NBC's few unrenewed scripted shows stand heading into 2022.

The Blacklist: Presumably, every show must end eventually. The Blacklist included. Nine season is about when many shows that have survived this long bid adieu. Who knows if that'll happen I this case. The Blacklist is doing terrible on Thursdays, well below SVU and somehow lower than even the SVU repeats that aired in this slot in the weeks before Blacklist debuted. However, I don't think it's going to be canceled. At this point, the show remains a cash cow for NBC that has continued to be popular on Netflix. That didn't save Good Girls, or Manifest (on NBC, at least), but those shows had other things going against them. The Blacklist feels to me like a show too important to NBC to cancel in May like a first-season flop comedy. Maybe it'll get a pre-announced ending in January, as I predicted the past two season. But it doesn't feel, at this moment, like a show preparing to say goodbye. Season ten is more likely than not, whether the ratings warrant it or not. It LEANS RENEWAL.

La Brea: In a testament to how truly long it's been since our last update, this show wasn't yet renewed when I last typed up an NBC column. Now, it's become the first new show of the season to secure a second season pickup. It was a likely renewal in the last update, bordering on certain. NBC renewed it before I could upgrade it, but it's a correct prediction either way.

What do you think of my predictions? What are your predictions? Let me know in the comments and vote in the poll of the week!
