We're nearing the end of the season, and I am beginning to finalize my predictions after what has been a very long NBC season. That means another prediction change this week, as a struggling drama moves to a cancellation prediction in the home stretch. Keep reading to see which show is on the decline. Plus, an update on another struggling performer that remains in the hunt for what may be the lone "pity renewal" of the season.
Thursday TV Ratings 4/24/25: NFL Draft Up from 2024, Elsbeth Down in Move to 9 PM, Georgie & Mandy, Ghosts and Next Level Chef Sink [+ Analysis]
Ratings Analysis: On ABC, the 2025 NFL Draft posted a strong 1.09 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic, a 4% improvement on last year's performance (1.05). Over on CBS, Georgie & Mandy (0.38, -0.08) and Ghosts (0.32, -0.08) both took a hit, and Elsbeth (0.25, -0.01) dropped in its move to nine. NBC aired reruns of Law & Order (0.16), SVU (0.18), and Found (0.12). Fox cooking series Next Level Chef (0.22, -0.14) plummeted, but Farmer Wants a Wife (0.18, +0.01) ticked up. Ratings Analysis: ABC said goodbye to The Conners on Wednesday night, as the Roseanne spin-off bowed out with a new season high (0.35, +0.09) at eight. There was some slippage at 8:30 for the actual series finale (0.31, -0.04), but this was still above last week's installment. At nine, Celebrity Jeopardy! (0.18, -0.07) plummeted on finale night, and the 10 p.m. broadcast preview of the Disney+ series Andor (0.11) fell behind the week-ago What Would You Do? finale (0.14). On CBS, Survivor (0.63, -0.17) fell off a cliff, but The Amazing Race (0.28, -0.02) only dropped slightly. Chicago Med (0.35, +0.05) and Chicago Fire (0.34, +0.01) grew on NBC, but Chicago PD (0.29, -0.01) dipped. Fox has announced their summer 2025 schedule, including a relocation of their animation block, their traditional Gordon Ramsay night, and several new programs.
Tuesday TV Ratings 4/22/25: St. Denis Medical and Night Court Down from Previous Week’s Repeats, Alert Hits Another Series Low, The Rookie and FBI: Most Wanted Also Sink to New Lows [+ Analysis]
Ratings Analysis: In a cruel twist of fate, NBC sitcoms St. Denis Medical (0.22, -0.01) and Night Court (0.16, -0.03) were down from a pair of repeats (0.26/0.17) that aired last week. On ABC, Will Trent (0.31, +0.02) increased in size, but The Rookie (0.21, -0.11) outright collapsed. FBI (0.35, -0.05), FBI: International (0.26, -0.06), and FBI: Most Wanted (0.24, -0.10) all plunged on CBS. The Cleaning Lady (0.11, +0.01) ticked up on Fox, but Alert: Missing Persons Unit (0.09, -0.01) went even lower. Both Fox dramas paled in comparison to the CW's WWE NXT (0.17, +0.03). Monday TV Ratings 4/21/25: America’s Most Wanted Abysmal in Return, Poppa’s House and NCIS Rebound, American Idol Up from Last Monday [+ Analysis]
Ratings Analysis: In its Fox return, America's Most Wanted (0.12) proved to be an even weaker option than Rescue: HI-Surf. The long-running reality series dropped significantly from the season finale of Extracted (0.19, +0.01) and barely cleared the one-million mark in total viewership. The Neighborhood (0.35, +0.02), Poppa's House (0.31, +0.05), NCIS (0.39, +0.13), and NCIS: Origins (0.26, +0.03) all climbed higher on CBS, with NCIS in particular growing substantially. American Idol (0.44, +0.04) and Paradise (0.14, +0.02) were both up from last week's installments on ABC. NBC aired a clip show of The Voice (0.20) and a rerun of Law & Order: SVU (0.08). Ratings Analysis: NBC's Suits LA (0.14, -0.03) dropped to a new series low on Sunday night, losing more than a tenth of its lead-in: The Making of The Americas (0.25). ABC was up with America's Funniest Home Videos (0.51, +0.14), but American Idol (0.53, -0.01) inched down. On CBS, 60 Minutes (0.34, -0.57), Tracker (0.47, -0.04), Watson (0.23, -0.09), and The Equalizer (0.19, -0.05) all dealt with declines. Fox's UFL broadcast (0.14) was an improvement over Extracted reruns in the 7 p.m. hour, but The Simpsons (0.12), Family Guy (0.12), Krapopolis (0.11), and The Great North (0.09) were all in repeat mode, so they could not benefit. Remarkable Women (0.01) struggled on the CW, losing to a rerun of Dolly Parton: Here I Am (0.04). Key: (R) = repeat.

Ratings Analysis: ABC got a massive 1.86 rating out of its broadcast of the Timberwolves v. Lakers NBA game, putting the network on top on Saturday night. CBS's 48 Hours (0.16, +0.02) grew at ten. NBC aired repeats of The Wall (0.09), Dateline (0.13), and SNL (0.15). UFL (0.10) continued to disappoint on Fox. The CW re-aired ABBA: Against All Odds (0.03). Key: (R) = repeat.
DMV Ordered to Series by CBS, Einstein Ordered for 2026-27, Zarna and The Neighborhood and Equalizer Spinoffs Not Moving Forward
Update 4/29: Einstein has been pushed to the 2026-27 season.
CBS is finalizing its programming slate for the 2025-26 season. Off the heels of recent cancellations and the pickup of CIA, CBS has ordered a lone comedy pilot to series, as well as another drama.
DMV, a single-camera sitcom set in a DMV office and featuring a cast of quirky yet lovable characters who rely on each other to deal with their thankless job, will be CBS's sole new sitcom next season. It will star Tim Meadows, Harriet Dyer, Molly Kearney, Tony Calavero, Gig Zumbado and Alex Tarrant.
Einstein will star Criminal Minds' Matthew Gray Gubler as the titular great-grandson of Albert Einstein, a brilliant tenured professor who finds himself in trouble with the law, resulting in him assisting a police detective solve crimes. Rosa Salazar will co-star.
These two pickups are the only new scripted series on CBS this season that aren't spinoffs of existing CBS properties.
In addition, the untitled spinoff of The Neighborhood centered on brother characters Malcolm and Marty, which will air its backdoor pilot in two weeks, is not moving forward. Also passed over is Zarna, CBS's other sitcom pilot that starred Zarna Gang and was produce by Warner Bros. CBS has also passed on the Equalizer spinoff starring Titus Welliver. The back door pilot for the prospective series aired just two days earlier.
Poppa’s House and The Summit Canceled by CBS
It's a busy day at CBS. Just hours after the network ordered CIA to series, they've made a decision on one of two remaining scripted series at the network. Poppa's House, starring Damon Wayans Sr. and Jr., has been canceled after a single season on the network, its eighteen-episode first season set to end next Monday. It's the first comedy cancellation of the series, with the other three comedies being renewed for next season. The series averaged 0.33 in its only season, slightly above the league average but easily the lowest-rated sitcom on CBS. That is higher than several other renewed series on the network, and put it towards the middle of the pack, but the shows was among the lowest-rated on CBS in L+7 and multiplatform metrics. That Monday at 8 hour will soon look quite different on CBS, with Poppa's House canceled this season and The Neighborhood set to wrap next season. This is a correct prediction by The TV Ratings Guide, and it leaves The Equalizer as the only CBS scripted show awaiting its fate.
In addition to the cancellation of Poppa's House, CBS has also canceled freshman reality series The Summit. The Summit was the lowest-rated fall series on CBS this year, with a poor 0.24 average despite a post-NFL preview and having the network's highest-rated series, Survivor, as its lead-in. This is also a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.
FBI Spinoff CIA Ordered to Series by CBS
The FBI franchise took a hit this season following the cancellation of FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International, but FBI will not be the only series in the franchise next season. CIA, formerly known as FBI: CIA, an offshoot of the franchise that has been in development since before the Most Wanted and International cancellations, has been ordered straight-to-series at CBS. Tom Ellis, known for his lead role in Fox/Netflix's Lucifer, will lead the series, the only cast member confirmed for the show so far. CIA is confirmed for a premiere in the 2025-26 season. It's the third series order for CBS for next season, after the long-gestating Sheriff Country and Blue Bloods spinoff Boston Blue. All of their new pickups so far are, notably, tied to other popular CBS projects. Several other projects remain in contention, including multiple sitcom pilots and drama pilot Einstein.
Friday TV Ratings 4/18/25: RuPaul’s Drag Race Rises for Finale, Fire Country and NCIS: Sydney Soar, 20/20 Hits Season High [+ Analysis]
Ratings Analysis: ABC's 20/20 (0.33, +0.19) experienced a sudden surge, even as its Shark Tank lead-in (0.32, +0.03) only grew slightly. On CBS, NCIS: Sydney (0.30, +0.08), Fire Country (0.39, +0.12), and SWAT (0.30, +0.05) all made noticeable gains. NBC's Grosse Pointe (0.13, +0.01) rose but still lost to a repeat of Dateline (0.15). UFL on Fox (0.13) was steady with last week. The CW aired encores of Penn & Teller: Fool Us (0.05) and Mysteries Decoded (0.03). Key: (R) = repeat.

Below are the April 19th renew/cancel predictions for the Fox network in the 2024-25 television season. The numbers listed in the table are the Nielsen rating low, average, and high for each respective program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The "Y2Y (year-to-year) Change" column compares a show's current average to its average from the previous season.
All things considered, Krapopolis has had a relatively quiet sophomore season. After being gifted with direct NFL inflation over and over again in fall 2023, the show was demoted to 9:30 in fall 2024, the slot furthest away from The OT. This is precisely why it has the harshest year-to-year decline of the Fox cartoons; as it has largely had to fend for itself in a low-priority half-hour. Its fortunes improved a bit this past week, as Fox decided to promote it to the 9 p.m. time slot, a move that came at the expense of The Great North. And yet, Krapopolis hardly took advantage of this shift. Yes, the series did improve, rising to a 0.14 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic, but it noticeably trailed its Family Guy lead-in (0.21). A 0.14 is a rating it managed at 9:30 with a much weaker Great North lead-in, so it seems to have barely benefited from this time slot upgrade.
Though Krapopolis will be in repeat-mode on Sunday, April 20th and April 27th, Fox has opted to air an original installment of the Greek mythology sitcom on Wednesday, April 30th. The program will have a a new episode of The Masked Singer leading into it and fellow cartoon Grimsburg as its lead-out. Though it is unknown why Fox is suddenly placing the series in an unfamiliar new setting, this could potentially give the animated comedy a much-needed boost. The latest episode of The Masked Singer posted a 0.42 Adults 18-49 rating, a number double that of Krap's current lead-in. If Krap were to retain even half of this lead-in, it could jump to its highest rating in months.
For now, it is unclear if this is a trial run or if Fox will be airing new episodes of Krapopolis on Wednesday nights permanently. They may be testing the waters to see if they can move the series away from the Sunday block in fall 2025. Or, maybe they are truly looking for a place to dump what's left of the show's order. Since it has yet to dip into its fourth production cycle, it is the former that appears more likely.
Fox Renew/Cancel March Madness Wrap-up!
The FOX Renew/Cancel March Madness tournament is officially over. In the final round, Rescue: HI-Surf easily defeated 9-1-1: Lone Star, making it the winner of this match-up. Though HI-Surf had a relatively soft showing in the semi-finals, its devoted fanbase pushed it to its best performance yet this time around. Lone Star also had a career high, but its numbers were not strong enough to propel it to victory. Congratulations to Rescue: HI-Surf for becoming the FOX Renew/Cancel March Madness champion of 2025!

On CBS, Matlock (0.48, +0.14) soared to a new series high for its season finale and was the top-rated program of the night. Georgie & Mandy (0.46, +0.10) and Ghosts (0.40, +0.04) also grew. This week on the NBC Renew/Cancel, I take a further look at one of the most under-discussed freshman series of the season on NBC, a show which I finally softening on after months of believing it to be a long-shot.
Wednesday TV Ratings 4/16/25: Abbott Elementary Drops for Finale, Survivor Jumps to Season High, The Masked Singer and The Floor Also Climb, Chicago Med Hits Series Low [+ Analysis]
Ratings Analysis: Class was dismissed on ABC, as Abbott Elementary (0.30, -0.07) closed out its fourth season on Wednesday night with a rather steep decline. The Conners (0.26, -0.04) also lost some ground at eight, although not as much as Abbott. Later in the night, Celebrity Jeopardy! (0.25, 0.00) held even, and What Would You Do? (0.14, +0.03) rose for its own finale. CBS's Survivor (0.80, +0.12) jumped to a new season high, but The Amazing Race (0.30, -0.05) went in the opposite direction. On NBC, Chicago Med (0.30, -0.12) and Fire (0.33, -0.11) collapsed, while PD (0.30, -0.04) had a more mild decline. The Masked Singer (0.42, +0.11) soared on Fox, and The Floor (0.34, +0.05) also climbed higher. The Equalizer (0.24, +0.02) improved a bit at the end of the lineup. On NBC, The Americas (0.33, -0.06) dropped on finale night, and Suits LA (0.17, -0.04) came down with it. America's Funniest Home Videos (0.37, -0.11) and The $100,000 Pyramid (0.24, -0.05) fell on ABC, but American Idol (0.54, +0.06) grew in-between. On Fox, Krapopolis (0.14, +0.03) was up in its move to nine, while The Great North (0.12, -0.02) slipped in its new slot. Below are the April 12th renew/cancel predictions for the Fox network in the 2024-25 television season. The numbers listed in the table are the Nielsen rating low, average, and high for each respective program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The "Y2Y (year-to-year) Change" column compares a show's current average to its average from the previous season.
The Cleaning Lady: In early 2022, The Cleaning Lady was a promising newbie with decent ratings. Now, The Cleaning Lady is the lowest-rated scripted series on the Fox network. The fourth-season drama dipped to a new season low on April 8th, garnering a meager 0.12 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. Its streaming performance remains lackluster, as the series continues to chart below Alert: Missing Persons Unit in the Hulu top 15. Since its performance has not improved, the series remains Likely to be Canceled.
Animal Control: Though it has not aired an episode in a month, Animal Control has been upgraded to a Likely Renewal. Futon Critic recently revealed that Fox will air a rerun of the season three premiere on April 26th. This is a sign that the network wants to continue championing the series. And while the network does have multiple comedies in development, it is unlikely that they will pick up more than one or two, if any at all. They only ordered one live-action sitcom in the 2024-2025 television season (Going Dutch), and they generally don't pick up much more than that, at least in recent memory. That leaves plenty of room for Animal Control to return for another short stint. The series is not a complete lock for renewal, but it is likely to return for season four.
The Great North: It was just announced that The Great North will have its anchor privileges revoked. The series will now air at the bottom of the hour, with Krapopolis as its lead-in. This abrupt change does not bode well for the future of this fifth-season cartoon. If Fox is going to go out of its way to yank it out of its 9 p.m. perch, they have clearly lost faith in the comedy. The Great North will also be airing an original episode after a Krapopolis repeat on April 27th. This type of scheduling is a common sign that a network is finished with a series. The Great North is Likely to be Canceled.
Fox Renew/Cancel March Madness concludes!
The FOX Renew/Cancel March Madness semifinals are officially over. HI-Surf's powers waned a bit, but the drama outpaced its Family Guy competitor nonetheless. Family Guy actually received more votes than it did in round two, and it clearly did better than the other shows that went up against HI-Surf, but it was ultimately not enough. In the other match-up, Alert: Missing Persons Unit lost out to 9-1-1: Lone Star.
