Week 23 Predictions

The Equalizer
Like last season, The Equalizer will be one of the final shows renewed or canceled by CBS. It is purely on the bubble, though seemingly more vulnerable this season than last due to declining ratings. The Equalizer was dealt a tough blow this past week when it got left out of CBS’s latest multi-platform viewership press release. The Equalizer has now been completely left out of both major multi-platform viewership press releases this season, meaning the series has presumably at the very least dropped from its days of cracking 10 million viewers in 35-day viewing. The other shows not mentioned are FBI: International (canceled), FBI: Most Wanted (canceled), S.W.A.T. (canceled), NCIS: Sydney (renewed/co-production), The Neighborhood (renewed for a final season), and Poppa’s House (TBD but predicted to be canceled). With the exception of Blue Bloods, which is getting a spinoff, all series mentioned in the press release have been renewed.

The fact CBS left The Equalizer out of this press release indicates they feel no need to boast about its viewership, either because it’s too low to tout, they’re about to cancel it, or both. On the other hand, CBS has already canceled four dramas this season, and they could use a short final season of The Equalizer to fill in the low-priority Sunday night death slot next season. Plus, unlike the FBI spinoffs and S.W.A.T., Paramount does have the streaming rights to each season of The Equalizer. It remains on the bubble this week, with an ultimate prediction that tilts toward cancelation.

CBS Renew/Cancel March Madness Championship

CBS Renew/Cancel March Madness will come to a close with a championship matchup between the 5 seeded FBI and the 14 seeded S.W.A.T. FBI is making its first ever appearance in the final round after easily getting by FBI: Most Wanted, Ghosts, and The Equalizer. S.W.A.T. is looking to defend its title after comfortably beating Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage in the first round, crushing FBI: International in the second, and now winning its Final Four matchup against NCIS by a whopping 94 percentage points. S.W.A.T. and FBI previously met in last season’s second round, a matchup S.W.A.T. won by roughly 90 percentage points.

Can S.W.A.T. defend its title as it yet again looks for a cancelation reversal or a new home? Can FBI close the gap and win its first ever title? Make your pick in the poll below!
