Coach Garry Season 1 Episode 16: Close Your Eyes

The Automobiles are in their dugout. There is one inning left in the game.

GARRY

Alright, listen up everyone. We’re down, but not out.

COOPER

We’re losing by eight runs.

GARRY

Exactly. The game’s not over yet.

WESLEY

In order to win, each and every one of us would have to score a run in this next inning.

GARRY

When you say it like that it doesn’t sound possible, but I believe in you guys.

SANTIAGO

I don’t.

HUDSON

Yeah I don’t know about anyone else but I haven’t gotten a hit so for in this game, and I don’t feel as if I’m about to get one either.

GARRY

You guys have the wrong attitude. If you picture something happening, it’ll happen. Brayden what are you doing?

BRAYDEN

Closing my eyes. I’m picturing getting a hit.

GARRY

That’s the spirit. Now do that in real life.

BRAYDEN walks up to the plate and strikes out. He walks back to the dugout.

BRAYDEN

It didn’t work.

GARRY

I can tell.

BRAYDEN

Are you mad at me, Coach Garry?

GARRY

Eh, I’ll try not to be. Who’s up next?

COLTON

You…you don’t know?

LANDON

It’s certainly not me.

HUDSON

Yes Landon, we know, you struck out looking to end the last inning and then swore at the ump.

GARRY

About that, you should really stop swearing at the umpire.

GAVIN

Can I swear at the umpire?

GARRY

What? No! Of course not.

COLTON

Anyways, I’m batting next.

GARRY

Well then what are you waiting for?

COLTON walks up to the plate and quickly hits a line drive right at the second baseman for the second out.

COLTON

I pictured getting a home run. Does that count for something?

GARRY

It counts for nothing.

JAXON

Do you want me to envision getting a hit?

GARRY

I want you to GET a hit. How you do that, I don’t care.

JAXON

Alright then, I’ll picture myself getting a grand slam.

WESLEY

And how do you suppose you do that with no one on base?

JAXON

Good point. I guess I’ll just swing the bat and see what happens.

JAXON walks up to the plate and hits a ground ball to the first baseman to end the game.

GARRY

Alright, picturing getting a hit didn’t work. Let’s not do that again.

LANDON

Yeah, nice going, Coach Garry!
