Ratings Analysis: In the fifth and final game of the World Series (4.25, +0.47), the Dodgers defeated the Yankees and brought the Fox network massive ratings. A new 2024 high was ultimately set in both Adults 18-49 ratings and total viewership. On ABC, The Golden Bachelorette (0.26, -0.06), Abbott Elementary (0.26, -0.02), and What Would You Do? (0.12, -0.01) all slipped. Survivor (0.57, -0.05) and The Summit (0.19, -0.05) also dropped on CBS. NBC aired repeats of Chicago Med (0.25), Fire (0.21), and PD (0.17). On the CW, Sullivan's Crossing (0.04, -0.04) lost half of last week's rating, but Inside the NFL (0.04, +0.02) rose. Key: (R) = repeat.

CBS dramas FBI (0.41, -0.02), FBI: International (0.35, -0.01), and FBI: Most Wanted (0.32, -0.01) all declined slightly. On ABC, Dancing with the Stars (0.67, -0.05) and High Potential (0.26, -0.03) also dropped. The Voice (0.33, -0.07) was down on NBC, but The Irrational (0.19, 0.00) held steady. WWE NXT (0.14, -0.02) couldn't stop its slide on the CW.

Ratings Analysis: CBS was in free-fall mode on Monday night as The Neighborhood (0.37, -0.08), Poppa's House (0.36, -0.07), NCIS (0.35, -0.06), and NCIS: Origins (0.28, -0.09) all dealt with sizable drops. On Fox, the third game of the World Series (3.10, -0.10) was a tenth below game two. The Voice (0.39, -0.12) and Brilliant Minds (0.22, -0.07) crashed on NBC. Monday Night Football (1.20, -0.21) was down by two-tenths on ABC. CW offerings Superman & Lois (0.04, -0.02) and The Wranglers (0.02, -0.01) also slipped.
Saturday TV Ratings 10/26/24: The Christmas Charade OK on Hallmark, World Series Slightly Down [+ Analysis]
Ratings Analysis: In game two, the World Series (3.20, -0.09) inched down but was easily Saturday night's top-rated broadcast. ABC's college football game (1.19) took a strong second but was still two ratings points below Fox. NBC's game (0.57) took third. Despite airing after low-rated repeats of The Summit (0.09) and Ghosts (0.08), CBS's 48 Hours (0.16, +0.02) was up from last week. I Am: Alfred Hitchcock (0.03) made no noise on the CW. Ratings Analysis: ABC's Press Your Luck (0.12, -0.10) struggled in its first episode in over a month, falling behind both America's Funniest Home Videos (0.28, 0.00) and Hocus Pocus 2 (0.20). On CBS, 60 Minutes (1.28, +0.77) and Tracker (0.53, +0.04) enjoyed some NFL assistance, but The Equalizer (0.30, -0.04) was actually down from last week's premiere. Fox didn't have any meaningful football help, so The Simpsons (0.26, -0.35), Universal Basic Guys (0.19, -0.90), Bob's Burgers (0.22, -0.20), and Krapopolis (0.14, -0.16) all plummeted. NBC's Cowboys/49ers NFL game (5.55) was more than a point above last week's Jets/Steelers game (4.39). The CW aired the 2015 film Goosebumps (0.06) and repeats of The Conners (0.03/0.03). Friday TV Ratings 10/25/24: World Series Massively Out-Rates 2023 Opening Game, Happy’s Place and Shark Tank Drop [+ Analysis]
Ratings Analysis: Fox's broadcast of the first 2024 World Series game delivered a massive 3.29 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic and crossed the 14-million mark in terms of total viewership. This rating is nearly 70% higher than the first 2023 game (1.95), and the viewership figure is over 50% above that of the year-ago showing. On NBC, sitcoms Happy's Place (0.29, -0.06) and Lopez v Lopez (0.21, -0.04) declined from last week's premieres, but Dateline (0.24, +0.03) was up. SWAT (0.27, -0.01) and Fire Country (0.34, -0.01) dipped on CBS, but Blue Bloods (0.25, -0.05) had a much harsher decline. ABC's Shark Tank (0.20, -0.04) fell to a new low and took 20/20 (0.18, -0.05) down with it. Whose Line Is It Anyway? (0.05, 0.00) and Joan (0.03, 0.00) were both stable on the CW.

Below are the October 27th renew/cancel predictions for the Fox network in the 2024-25 television season. The numbers listed in the table mark the Nielsen rating low, average, and high for each respective program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The "Y2Y (year-to-year) Change" column denotes how much the series has grown or declined when compared to its average from the previous season.
Universal Basic Guys: Thanks to another direct NFL lead-in, cartoon comedy Universal Basic Guys soared to a 1.09 rating on Sunday, October 20th. Fox is clearly utilizing the Krapopolis strategy by pumping Guys with as much football juice as possible before spring hits. As a result, Guys is currently the highest-rated scripted series on broadcast television. However, it is guaranteed to lose that title as more non-inflated episodes air.
Rescue: HI-Surf: Rescue: HI-Surf recently dipped to a measly 0.15 rating. This serves as a new low for a drama that cannot seem to find its floor. HI-Surf remains a Likely Renewal, but that may change if Fox decides to remove it from the post-Super Bowl slot in the near future.
Murder in a Small Town: Though Murder in a Small Town did sink to an abysmal 0.13 on October 15th, it climbed back up to a 0.21 on the 22nd. A 0.21 may not seem like a strong rating, but it is only a hundredth below what the series managed on premiere night and only a few hundredths behind the latest episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star (0.25). The renewal of this series will largely depend on Canadian network Global, but this ratings surge does not hurt its chances. Murder in a Small Town is still a Likely Renewal in this column.
Accused: After debuting with a 0.16 rating, Accused dropped to a 0.13 and then rose to a 0.15. Though any form of growth is good, it was still the lowest-rated broadcast series on Tuesday, October 22nd, even going below what the CW had to offer. Since this series does not have any football-boosted episodes this year, it is also the lowest-rated show among the big four broadcast networks. By moving it from the initially-announced 8:00 p.m. time slot to 9:00 and giving it a relatively small episode order, Fox seems to be implying that they do not have much confidence in this anthology drama. Due to these factors and the poor 18-49 ratings, Accused is now Likely to be Canceled by the Fox network.

With streaming data remaining elusive, these daily charts give us some sort of insight into how some of these broadcast and cable programs are stacking up compared to the other shows that air on their same networks, as streaming performance continues to play a larger part in renewal decisions.
Thursday TV Ratings 10/24/24: 9-1-1 and Doctor Odyssey Sink to New Lows, Georgie & Mandy and Matlock Rise [+ Analysis]
Ratings Analysis: It was another rough Thursday night for ABC as both 9-1-1 (0.31, -0.06) and Doctor Odyssey (0.22, -0.03) dropped to new series lows. Despite the slippage, Grey's Anatomy (0.23, +0.02) actually ticked up in the 10 p.m. slot. The news was significantly more positive on CBS as Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage (0.53, +0.06) miraculously rose in week 2, and Matlock (0.38, +0.02) built on last week's time slot premiere. Ghosts (0.47, 0.00) and Elsbeth (0.27, 0.00) held steady. On NBC, Law & Order (0.27, +0.02), Law & Order: SVU (0.35, +0.04), and Found (0.26, +0.08) all gained some ground. Hell's Kitchen (0.23, 0.00) was even on Fox, but Crime Scene Kitchen (0.13, -0.05) dropped. Scrabble (0.06, +0.01) and Trivial Pursuit (0.06, +0.01) each picked up a hundredth on the CW.

On NBC, The Voice (0.51, +0.08) and Brilliant Minds (0.29, +0.07) had similar-sized spikes. Fox's 9-1-1: Lone Star (0.25, -0.03) and Rescue: HI-Surf (0.15, -0.01) decreased in size. ABC's Ravens/Buccaneers NFL game (1.41) was more than a tenth below last week's game (1.55). Superman & Lois (0.06, +0.01) picked up a hundredth on the CW, but The Wranglers was frozen at 0.03. As usual, the boost largely wore off by the time 9 p.m. comedies Bob's Burgers (0.42, +0.18) and Krapopolis (0.30, +0.16) rolled around. On CBS, 60 Minutes (0.51, +0.04) picked up a few ticks, while Tracker (0.49, -0.05) declined from last week's premiere. Later in the evening, The Equalizer (0.34) tied its series low in its season premiere. On NBC, the Jets/Steelers NFL game (4.39) was nearly three-tenths higher than the Bengals/Giants game from last week. America's Funniest Home Videos (0.28, +0.04) improved on ABC. Ratings Analysis: Host Michael Keaton and musical guest Billie Eilish could not keep Saturday Night Live (0.71, -0.23) from dropping by more than two-tenths from last week's Ariana Grande-hosted installment (0.94). Earlier in the night, NBC's college football game (0.28) was more than two ratings points below last week's (2.34), which may explain why Saturday Night took the hit that it did. ABC's monstrous Georgia/Texas college football game (3.38) was #1 in both Adults 18-49 ratings and total viewers. Fox's own game (0.25) was a few ticks behind NBC's. 48 Hours (0.14, -0.09) collapsed on CBS. The CW aired NASCAR Xfinity (0.05) and a college football game of their own (0.09). Key: (R) = repeat.
Matlock Renewed by CBS
Less than a week after its time slot debut, the Kathy Bates-led legal drama Matlock, loosely inspired by the Andy Griffith drama that ran from 1986 to 1995, has already been renewed for a second season. This makes it the first freshman renewal of the season, aside from Universal Basic Guys, which was renewed before the season began. It’s also the first renewal since the start of the 2024-25 season. The show has performed well so far for CBS, with a 0.44 in the demo for a one-off Sunday airing last month and a 0.36 rating in the demo for its time slot debut last week. Skye P. Marshall, Jason Ritter, Leah Lewis and David Del Rio star alongside Bates, with the series intended to be the Oscar and Emmy winner's final project of her acting career. With this renewal, that planned retirement will be delayed at least another year. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

The numbers listed in the table mark the Nielsen rating low, average, and high for each respective program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The "Y2Y (year-to-year) Change" column denotes how much the series has grown or declined when compared to its average from the previous season.
Universal Basic Guys: Fox's latest animated offering is currently the network's top-rated scripted program, but that figure is completely misleading. Though Universal Basic Guys did start its run with a football-boosted 1.18 rating, it completely fell off a cliff the following week (0.19). Some indirect NFL help got it back up a bit in episode three (0.39), but it was back down to a 0.19 in its first post-Simpsons episode, even as its lead-in managed a 0.33. The week after, The Simpsons (0.23) lost a full tenth, but Guys miraculously held steady. Though a 0.19 is not a particularly good rating, this does show that Guys may have found its floor. However, even if it does decline some more, the series has already been Renewed for a second season, so fans of this series will not have to worry about its fate this year.
Rescue: HI-Surf: Rescue: HI-Surf did not take advantage of its direct NFL lead-in as much as Guys did, but the new drama still launched with a solid 1.11 rating. The only problem is that it dropped to a 0.20 just twenty-five hours later. It declined to a 0.17 the week after, but it finally ticked up (0.18) in its fourth episode. For now, this series begins as a Likely Renewal. Fox gifted it a football boost on premiere night and is providing it with the post-Super Bowl slot, so they clearly want the series to succeed. HI-Surf has not fallen to the egregious lows of The Cleaning Lady or Alert and has the network's full backing, so it is safe to say that it will be sticking around.
The Simpsons: The Simpsons has yet to have any direct football help this season, a rarity for a series that usually enjoys heavy football inflation during the fall months. And yet, if football-boosted episodes of Universal Basic Guys and HI-Surf were taken out of the picture, it would currently be Fox's highest-rated scripted series. This could be seen as a blow to the narrative that The Simpsons is nothing more than a relic living off NFL overrun fumes, but Fox is doing so poorly right now that being their top-rated show doesn't mean much. Nonetheless, The Simpsons is a Certain Renewal. Expect a multi-season pickup in the near future.
9-1-1: Lone Star: In September, it was announced that season five of 9-1-1: Lone Star will be its last. This ultimately serves as a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide. There was a time when Lone Star was a ratings juggernaut, but it has since taken a massive hit, as recent episodes hover in the 0.24-0.27 range. For Fox, this is still relatively solid, but it is not good enough to justify the costs that come with this aging veteran.
Bob's Burgers: Bob's Burgers had a rough start to the season (0.20), but it was able to grow in week two (0.24) to a more passable rating. The Belcher family has clearly seen better days, but this longtime staple is still a Certain Renewal. Bob's was the highest-rated Fox cartoon on October 6th and clearly has more life in it than some of the other animated sitcoms. Bob's Burgers will surely stay in business for a little while longer.
Murder in a Small Town: Murder in a Small Town began with a 0.22 and has since descended to a 0.18. Its ratings are modest at best, but it still serves as an improvement over the Tuesday dramas from the spring. It begins as a Likely Renewal.
Accused: Accused returned for season two with an abysmal 0.16 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic, but it still starts as a Likely Renewal, albeit a shaky one. Fox has handed renewals to weaker performers, so it would not be a surprise if this one sticks around. However, if ratings dwindle from here, it may be downgraded.
Krapopolis: The lowest-rated show on Fox is also one of the safest as Krapopolis has already been renewed through the 2025-26 season. As far as live ratings go, it is in for a massive sophomore slump. This series no longer gets the type of NFL help it had in its inaugural season, and any football juice that manages to trickle down to the 9:30 p.m. time slot will be minimal.

Thursday TV Ratings 10/10/24: Grey’s Anatomy and Trivial Pursuit Sink, 9-1-1 and Doctor Odyssey Jump, SVU Holds Steady [+ Analysis]
Ratings Analysis: 9-1-1 (0.51, +0.09) and Doctor Odyssey (0.37, +0.06) gained some momentum on ABC, but Grey's Anatomy (0.23, -0.08) collapsed in the 10 p.m. hour. CBS's Big Brother (0.54, +0.01) gained a hundredth and led into repeats of Matlock (0.21) and Elsbeth (0.14). On NBC, Law & Order (0.30, -0.06) dropped, Law & Order: SVU (0.40, 0.00) held steady, and Found (0.23, +0.01) ticked up. Hell's Kitchen (0.21, -0.02) and Crime Scene Kitchen (0.13, -0.03) declined on Fox. Trivial Pursuit (0.04, -0.05) plummeted on the CW, and Scrabble (0.04, -0.02) was also down. Key: (R) = repeat.

Ratings Analysis: In its season four premiere, ABC's Abbott Elementary (0.37) grew significantly from its Golden Bachelorette lead-in (0.30, 0.00) and avoided setting a new low. However, it was still down noticeably from its May 2024 finale (0.44) and February 2024 premiere (0.48). In the 10 p.m. hour, a 20/20 special about disgraced mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs (0.35) brought in strong ratings. On CBS, Survivor (0.65, +0.02) inched up, but The Summit (0.28, -0.04) declined in its time slot debut. The Masked Singer (0.38, +0.03) and The Floor (0.34, +0.04) bounced back on Fox. On NBC, Chicago Med (0.38, +0.02) and Chicago Fire (0.37, +0.01) rose, but Chicago PD (0.32, -0.04) took a hit. On the CW, Inside the NFL (0.04, +0.01) picked up a hundredth in its move to Wednesdays, and Sullivan's Crossing (0.07, +0.02) also climbed higher. Key: (P) = premiere.
