FOX Renew/Cancel Week 23: Is "Krapopolis" Secretly In Its Second Season? + FOX March Madness Voting Continues!

Predictions for 03/30/24

Below are the Week 23 renew/cancel predictions for the Fox network in the 2023-24 television season. The numbers listed in the table mark the Nielsen rating low, average, and high for each respective program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The "Y2Y (year-to-year) Change" column denotes how much the series has risen or fallen when compared to its average from the previous season. Because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, there is a limited amount of scripted programming this spring. As a result, reality television will continue to be included in this column. Now that scripted programming is returning, scripted and reality will be split into two separate charts.

Krapopolis: Though it almost felt like the star of Fox's fall 2023 lineup for being the only new scripted series on the network, Krapopolis has fallen off the radar since. Ratings have diminished to slivers as those prime football lead-ins are no longer in the picture. The animated comedy can currently be found hovering in the frighteningly low 0.11-0.15 range in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The latest episode of Krap managed a meager 0.13 rating and declined from a Simpsons episode (0.17) that serves as the latter's lowest-rated installment. To cut Krap some slack, retention here really isn't all that different from the 8:30 offerings of years past, but The Simpsons is just so low this spring that the show airing after it can't even afford to drop from it. Regardless, it seems Fox is disappointed in this show's performance. According to Futon Critic, an episode with the production code "KRA-201" aired on February 18th. Since then, episodes 209, 204, 202, and 203 have also aired. This makes it clear that Fox has finished airing the 13-episode first season of Krapopolis and is now trying to burn through episodes from its second production cycle as fast as possible. Episodes with a "20_" production code would probably have been saved for Fall 2024 if Krapopolis was a ratings winner. Instead, it appears Fox has buyer's remorse and is trying to get rid of their Krap stockpile. So, even though Krapopolis scored a three-season renewal last year, it will probably be gone a lot sooner than expected.

Animal Control: Animal Control climbed to a 0.22 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic, setting a new season high in the process. This looks great on paper, but it only seemed to happen because its Masked Singer lead-in (0.43) rose significantly and comedy competitor Abbott Elementary was in repeat-mode. Up is up, but this growth does not signify that Animal Control is suddenly building an audience, it just benefited from better circumstances. But, considering the early renewal it got, this is more than enough for it to survive on Fox.

Hell's Kitchen: Fox recently renewed Hell's Kitchen for two more seasons. This serves as a correct prediction for this column and should come as no surprise. Outside of The Floor and The Masked Singer, Hell's serves as one of the network's strongest reality options. Fox seems to have a solid relationship with Gordon Ramsay, and his shows almost always deliver when it comes to Nielsen ratings. This one was a given.

Fox Renew/Cancel March Madness Continues!

Our NCAA-style "March Madness" bracket tournament continues this week and will wrap up next week. Alert fans put up a good fight, but it was The Simpsons that pulled ahead. Family Guy, meanwhile, completely trounced Grimsburg in its match-up. The Cleaning Lady pulled off a similar feat against Krapopolis. And Bob's Burgers held a comfortable lead against Animal Control. The remaining two matches are shown below, please vote!

Note: The bracket above depicts the voting data collected between March 23, 2024 and March 30, 2024. Any voting that happens after that cannot be recorded for the sake of moving the tournament forward.

Thursday TV Ratings 3/28/24: March Madness Rises Again, 9-1-1 Also Rises, Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 Drop (Final Ratings w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: CBS's latest March Madness broadcast (1.54/2.06) was significantly higher than last Thursday's (1.50/1.26) and kept them on top in terms of Adults 18-49 ratings. 9-1-1 (0.57, +0.05) grew on ABC, but Grey's Anatomy (0.39, -0.08) and Station 19 (0.29, -0.03) continued to decline. Next Level Chef (0.26, -0.03) dropped to a new series low on Fox, while Farmer Wants a Wife (0.19, 0.00) tied its episode from two weeks ago. NBC re-ran their Law & Order trio (0.23/0.24/0.20). Wednesday TV Ratings 3/27/24: Chicago PD, The Masked Singer, and Family Guy Rise, Survivor and Chicago Med Drop (Final Ratings w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: It was a night of recovery on Fox as The Masked Singer (0.43, +0.05), Animal Control (0.22, +0.05), and Family Guy (0.18, +0.04) all bounced back and outpaced their week-ago broadcasts. This serves as a new season high for Animal Control, just one week after it set a new low. Over on NBC, Chicago Med (0.44, -0.02) dipped, Chicago Fire (0.48, 0.00) held even, and Chicago PD (0.47, +0.06) surged. CBS's Survivor (0.70, -0.08) took a hit, but The Amazing Race (0.35, -0.03) did not drop nearly as much. ABC had sitcom reruns (0.26/0.16/0.17/0.16) and a 9-1-1 encore (0.10). The CW re-ran Walker (0.04/0.04).

Tuesday TV Ratings 3/26/24: Night Court and Extended Family Tick Up for Finales, The Rookie Ties Series Low, The Cleaning Lady Hits Another Low (Final Ratings w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: NBC sitcoms Night Court (0.30, +0.01) and Extended Family (0.25, +0.01) were both up by a hundredth on finale night, while The Voice (0.36, +0.02) and Password (0.29, +0.02) each grew by two. On ABC, Will Trent (0.34, -0.02) and The Rookie (0.27, -0.04) slipped for their first episodes since March 5th, with The Rookie tying its series low here. The Good Doctor (0.21, +0.03), however, was up a bit when compared to last week. The Cleaning Lady (0.16, -0.02) dropped to a new series low on Fox, while Alert: Missing Persons Unit (0.15, +0.01) ticked up. FBI (0.45, -0.10) lost a tenth on CBS, and International (0.33, -0.09) was down by almost the same amount, but Most Wanted (0.33, -0.02) had a more mild decline. Crime Nation (0.07, +0.02) increased in size on the CW.

Monday TV Ratings 3/25/24: The Bachelor Hits Multi-Season High for Finale, The Neighborhood Also Rises, The Voice and NCIS Slide (Final Ratings w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: ABC's The Bachelor (0.80, +0.21) soared to a multi-season high on finale night and was over two-tenths higher than it was last week. CBS's sitcoms stood strong against the Bachelor surge, as The Neighborhood (0.49, +0.07) and Bob Hearts Abishola (0.35, +0.07) were both way up when compared to their last episodes. However, dramas NCIS (0.36, -0.09) and NCIS: Hawai'i (0.30, -0.10) completely collapsed. The Voice (0.42, -0.11) and Deal or No Deal Island (0.26, -0.07) also crumbled on NBC. Fox was up with MasterChef Junior (0.29, +0.01) but down with So You Think You Can Dance (0.15, -0.03). Ride (0.03, -0.01) lost a hundredth for its CW finale.

Sunday TV Ratings 3/24/24: Tracker Hits Series High, March Madness Rises Again, American Idol Hits All-Time Low (Final Ratings w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: March Madness basketball (2.01) improved some more and broke the 2.0 barrier for the first time this year. That boost helped push CBS's 60 Minutes (0.75, +0.08) above last week's episode and catapulted Tracker (0.54, +0.07) to its highest rating outside of the Super Bowl-charged premiere. CSI: Vegas (0.33, +0.02) also grew but not nearly as much as the others. The news was a lot more bleak on ABC as American Idol (0.38, -0.12) crashed to an all-time low. America's Funniest Home Videos (0.41, -0.07) and What Would You Do? (0.23, -0.04) also took a hit. On Fox, The Simpsons (0.17, -0.04) dropped to a new series low and took Krapopolis (0.13, -0.02) down with it. The Great North (0.12, -0.01) and Grimsburg (0.11, -0.02) slipped a bit in the 9 p.m. hour. NBC had an assortment of reruns (0.15/0.14/0.15), while The CW aired the 1984 Ghostbusters (0.09) and The Conners (0.04).

Saturday TV Ratings 3/23/24: World Figure Skating Championships Rise Again from Previous Year, March Madness Hits 2024 High (Final Ratings w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: March Madness basketball (1.67) reached a new 2024 high on CBS and once more demolished the competition in the Adults 18-49 demographic. ABC's Panthers v. Rangers NHL game (0.16) was modest at best but remained a notch above NBC's Figure Skating broadcast (0.12). For what it's worth, however, this showing of the World Figure Skating Championships was at least a bit higher than the year-ago one (0.10). SNL Vintage (0.16) built on Figure Skating in the 10 p.m. hour and easily bested Fox's reruns of MasterChef Junior (0.10) and The Masked Singer (0.11). The CW was close behind Fox with a repeat of Freddie Mercury: The Final Act (0.08).

Friday TV Ratings 3/22/24: March Madness Slightly Down from Thursday, WWE SmackDown Drops (Final Ratings w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: CBS's second night of March Madness coverage (1.09/1.52) was down from the first night (1.50/1.26), but the numbers were still high enough to keep them in the lead. WWE Smackdown (0.61, -0.07) declined on Fox and had to settle for second place for once. ABC's Shark Tank (0.27) was in repeat-mode, but that didn't stop 20/20 (0.30, +0.08) from surging. Dateline (0.21, +0.02) inched up on NBC and built significantly on the Deal or No Deal Island rerun (0.12) that led into it. On the CW, Penn & Teller: Fool Us (0.07, +0.01) grew, Totally Funny Animals (0.03, -0.01) dropped, and Totally Funny Kids (0.03, 0.00) held steady.

FOX Renew/Cancel Week 22: Hit The Snooze Button on "Alert" + FOX March Madness Voting Begins

Predictions for 03/23/24

Below are the Week 22 renew/cancel predictions for the Fox network in the 2023-24 television season.

Alert: Since its March 5th premiere, Alert: Missing Persons Unit has only gotten weaker and weaker in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The 0.18 rating it posted on premiere night was already a new series low, but it then fell to a 0.17 and most recently to a 0.14. This series is one of Fox's poorest performers, and it is unlikely that things will improve from here. Alert was hardly worth renewing to begin with, but it's hard to imagine that it slips through the cracks again with numbers like these. This sophomore drama remains Likely to be Canceled

Family Guy: After a semi-decent start to its Wednesday night stint, Family Guy crumbled in the same way that Alert did (0.200.16 > 0.14). On a historically-adjusted basis, a 0.14 may very well be this show's poorest performance ever, even when compared to how it was doing before its first cancellation. In terms of raw ratings, it is a clear series low. Of course, ratings hardly matter for a juggernaut like Family Guy, but the time slot downgrade and poor Nielsen numbers signal that Fox is getting ready to get rid of the Griffin family.

Animal Control: Though Animal Control held steady at a 0.21 rating for two weeks, things took a turn for the worse when episode three fell to a meager 0.17. The Joel McHale sitcom retained less than 50% of The Masked Singer (0.38) and set a new series low here. This one is already Renewed for a third season and allegedly performs quite well on digital platforms, but the live ratings are starting to shrink to the point where it's looking like a real eyesore.

Bob's Burgers: After a two-month hiatus, Fox randomly brought Bob's Burgers back on March 10th to air behind a Simpsons rerun on Oscars night. Since this was also an out-of-time slot airing, it almost seemed like Fox was doing all they could to tank the series. And yet, miraculously, Bob's posted a 0.29 rating and built on its repeat lead-in (0.17) by more than a full tenth! Considering that this will likely be the only 0.3 rating to come out of a Fox cartoon this spring, it is clear that Bob's remains incredibly valuable from a live ratings standpoint. Bob's will once more be placed on a two-month hiatus, with its finale currently set for May 19 at 9:30 p.m. Bob's could have just aired these two episodes in January and properly wrapped up its shortened season, but Fox works in mysterious ways and enjoys erratically tossing episodes into random slots.

The Great North: On the night when Bob's Burgers occupied the 8:30 p.m. slot with its solid 0.29 rating, The Great North shot up to a 0.21 rating. Once Krapopolis returned to 8:30, Great North crashed back down to a 0.13. It is clear that this series is not anchor material, but it would probably do fine business if it was at the bottom of an hour led by Bob's.

Thursday TV Ratings 3/21/24: March Madness Soars Over 2023 Opening Games, 9-1-1 and Grey’s Anatomy Drop in Week 2, SVU Sinks to New Low (Final Ratings w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: CBS's March Madness coverage (1.50/1.26) soared past 2023's opener (0.80/0.88) and led the network to a clear victory in the Adults 18-49 demographic. On ABC, 9-1-1 (0.52, -0.08), Grey's Anatomy (0.47, -0.09), and Station 19 (0.32, -0.05) all experienced some steep declines in week two, with Grey's nearly losing a full tenth. Law & Order (0.31, -0.06) and SVU (0.35, -0.10) crashed to new series lows on NBC, while Organized Crime (0.28, +0.01) actually ticked up at 10. Next Level Chef (0.29, 0.00) held even on Fox and led into a Kate Middleton-themed TMZ Investigates (0.17). The CW had a double-pump of Conners (0.05/0.04) and two helpings of Critch (0.04/0.04).

Wednesday TV Ratings 3/20/24: Abbott Elementary Sinks to New Low, Survivor and The Masked Singer Rise, One Chicago Lineup Drops After Break (Final Ratings w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: Abbott Elementary (0.28, -0.07) crashed to a new series low on ABC, falling more than both The Conners (0.36, -0.03) and Not Dead Yet (0.21, -0.05) in the Adults 18-49 demographic. At 10, a rerun of 9-1-1 (0.17) was a marked improvement over the usual Judge Steve. Over on CBS, Survivor (0.78, +0.03) and The Amazing Race (0.38, +0.01) made some gains. Fox's The Masked Singer (0.38, 0.00) held even, but Animal Control (0.17, -0.04) and Family Guy (0.14, -0.02) collapsed to new series lows. On NBC, Chicago Med (0.46, -0.06), Chicago Fire (0.48, -0.09), and Chicago PD (0.41, -0.09) were all down significantly after being off the air for nearly a month. Wild Cards (0.06, -0.01) and Family Law (0.04, -0.01) inched down for their CW finales.

One Chicago Shows, Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU Renewed by NBC

Five of Dick Wolf's six shows at NBC have been renewed for next season by NBC. The Peacock Network's Wednesday night lineup - Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD - has been renewed in full, while Thursday night dramas Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU have also been picked up. Chicago Fire currently rates as TV's #1 scripted series (The Simpsons and Abbott Elementary currently post higher averages, but are inflated by event programming that aired before selected episodes), with Med rating as #3, SVU as #4, and PD as #7. Wolf's shows have long been a staple of NBC's lineup, with Law & Order originally premiering in 1990 (before being canceled in 2010 and revived in 2022) and SVU being the longest-running live-action scripted show in American television history, celebrating its 25th season this year. Left in limbo is Law & Order: Organized Crime, Wolf's only other series on the network and the lowest-rated of his six NBC shows.

Tuesday TV Ratings 3/19/24: The Good Doctor Steady After Break, Alert Hits New Low, FBI Rises and Easily Leads (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: ABC drama The Good Doctor (0.18, 0.00) held even at its series low after taking a few weeks off. Fox's The Cleaning Lady (0.18, 0.00) was also steady, but Alert (0.14, -0.03) slipped to a new series low. On CBS, FBI (0.55, +0.09), FBI: International (0.42, +0.03), and FBI: Most Wanted (0.35, +0.01) were all on the rise, with FBI growing significantly more than International and Most Wanted. Night Court (0.29, 0.00) was flat on NBC, but Extended Family (0.24, -0.01), The Voice (0.34, -0.02), and Password (0.27, -0.01) were all down slightly from last week. Crime Nation (0.05, +0.01) ticked up on the CW.

Finals Update: Password (+0.1) adjusted up.

Sunday TV Ratings 3/17/24: Ice Age: The Great Egg-Scapade Draws Highest Rating Since 2020, American Idol and Tracker Drop, The Equalizer Rises (Final Ratings w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: Fox's Easter-themed special Ice Age: The Great Egg-Scapade (0.20) was up markedly from last year's broadcast (0.15) in its first 8 p.m. airing and was only a bit below the last Simpsons original (0.21). At 8:30, Krapopolis (0.15, +0.01) was up by a hundredth from its March 3rd episode. From there, The Great North (0.13, -0.08) crashed back down to Earth after being boosted by a special Bob's Burgers last week. Despite that, Grimsburg (0.13, +0.01) actually picked up a hundredth at 9:30. ABC was down across the board as America's Funniest Home Videos (0.48, -0.05), American Idol (0.50, -0.12), and What Would You Do? (0.27, -0.07) all dropped after taking a week off for the Oscars. CBS's basketball-inflated 60 Minutes (0.67) helped The Equalizer (0.47, +0.05) grow a good bit, but Tracker (0.47, -0.03) and CSI: Vegas (0.31, -0.01) dipped. NBC re-ran Password (0.19), The Voice (0.18), and Dateline (0.17) after ending their weekly Harry Potter showings prematurely. The CW aired 2000 film Erin Brockovich (0.06).

Monday TV Ratings 3/18/24: Oprah Weight Loss Revolution Special Strong, The Bachelor Slides but Still Leads, Bob Hearts Abishola Hits Another New Low (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: Oprah Winfrey's weight loss special (0.43) proved to be a ratings winner for ABC, even though it was over two-tenths lower than last week's BachelorThe Bachelor itself (0.59, -0.09) took a hit, likely due to being bumped up an hour, but was still the night's top broadcast.
