It's nearly the end of 2021, and The CW has still only premiered about half of their scripted programming. With a slew of new shows set to debut in the new year, it feels like a good time to make some initial predictions for the shows that have premiered so far.

All American: This is one of the biggest no-brainer renewals out there right now. This show is a sensation, and a shocking one at that, having gone from a flop in its initial first season airings to a Netflix smash hit just months later. It continues to be highly-rated (by The CW's standards) and is still doing well on Netflix, and, with a spinoff on the way, The CW seems to be quite pleased with the show. It's obviously a CERTAIN RENEWAL.

Nancy Drew: Its ratings are, obviously, abysmal. With just a 0.05 average, it is the lowest-rated show on broadcast television, having gone as low as 0.03 on one occasion. It's still coming back. How do I know? Well, its ratings have been ugly in the past, and that didn't stop The CW from ordering a spinoff of the show, Tom Swift, which will premiere later this season. They knew the ratings were terrible when they ordered it, and it didn't stop them. So why would it stop them from renewing Nancy Drew? It's clearly a show that makes them money, most likely via streaming, and so, it's a LIKELY RENEWAL.

4400: This is about as close as I can get to predicting a cancellation for a CW show. Airing behind The CW's top show, 4400 has performed terribly, with a 0.08 average that ranks as the second-lowest show on the network. Again, ratings haven't been the main factor in renewal decisions at the CW in a long time, but they do occasionally cancel shows every once in a while, though we rarely see cancellations of fall series. That the show will only have a thirteen-episode run is a bit worrying, as that is shorter than the runs of previous new CW shows like last season's entries, Walker and Superman & Lois. However, they have a packed lineup this year, and need to make room for the All American spinoff, so 4400 may not be doomed at all by the short order. This show's fate will be decided by streaming, and if they can get it a streaming deal that's on par with the deal their other shows have, it will be renewed. It LEANS RENEWAL for now.
