FOX Renew/Cancel Week 16: The Great North Will Be Frozen Out

Below are the Week 16 renew/cancel predictions for the Fox network in the 2023-24 television season. The numbers listed in the table mark the Nielsen rating low, average, and high for each respective program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The "Y2Y (year-to-year) Change" column denotes how much the series has risen or fallen when compared to its average from the previous season. Because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, there is a limited amount of scripted programming this winter. As a result, reality television will continue to be included in this column.

The Great North: Out of the six animated sitcoms currently airing on the Fox network, The Great North is the only one that has not been renewed through the 2024-25 television season. Animated programming takes longer to produce when compared to live-action, so renewals have to be made further in advance to ensure that episodes will be ready for the upcoming season. This leaves North in a very shaky position as it is the only cartoon with its faith up in the air. Fox is no stranger to handing this series an early renewal, and they even gave it a third-season pickup at a time when the show had barely wrapped up season one. Fox's reluctance to green-light season five means they are probably done doing business with the Tobins. They have a habit of pampering a series for a short while before abruptly deciding to move on (see: Bless the Harts). On top of that, the 0.22 rating it posted for its premiere is not particularly encouraging, especially for a football-boosted night. The Great North was a fine performer in the post-Simpsons slot, but it is now going to be the 9 p.m. anchor during the spring months with an abysmal player like Krapopolis as its lead-in. It almost feels like Fox has gone out of their way to place North in the worst possible position so that a cancellation will seem completely justified when the time comes. This series is Likely to be Canceled.

Grimsburg: Fox made sure to give the premiere of Grimsburg some NFL overrun help, but the results were unsatisfactory. The premiere of the Jon Hamm cartoon managed just a 0.57 rating despite having a sizable lead-in from The OT (2.09). Retention here (27%) was actually a bit worse than what Krapopolis managed for its series debut (28%). Though it did get the short end of the stick when it comes to NFL lead-ins, Grimsburg could have easily done better if interest was there. Though it is already Renewed for another season, ratings are sure to get ugly when this show heads to its 9:30 p.m. time slot. It will be a complete miracle if Grimsburg is above a 0.20 rating in the slot that it's headed to.

The Floor: After a very solid launch, things got even better for The Floor in week two. The Rob Lowe game show actually built on its premiere rating and climbed to a sturdy 0.44 rating. This show was already Likely to be Renewed, but it's headed towards "Certain Renewal" status if it can keep this up. Rising in week two is almost unheard of, and this series could have easily ended up with a nasty post-premiere decline. The Floor seems to be cementing itself as one of the strongest offerings on the Fox network and is now rivaling The Masked Singer in terms of ratings strength. Needless to say, this show is here to stay.

We Are Family: Speaking of nasty post-premiere declines, We Are Family completely collapsed in week two. The series posted a meager 0.21 rating for its second episode, a far cry from the solid 0.35 it managed on premiere night. Family couldn't even build on its I Can See Your Voice lead-in (0.22) this time around and declined by a whopping 40% in just one week. We Are Family remains Likely to be Renewed, because a week three rebound is possible, but it's clearly headed down the wrong path.

Celebrity Name That Tune: Celebrity Name That Tune has been upgraded to a Likely Renewal. The series returned with a new season high last week (0.29) and set another one this week, inching up to a 0.30 for its latest episode. These ratings are adequate enough, and Tune is taking advantage of having a real lead-out again (as opposed to the 9-1-1: Lone Star reruns it was paired up with in the fall). Fox can do far worse than a 0.3, and this show is growing enough to justify keeping it around.
