CBS Renew/Cancel Week 17: Raid The Cage’s Momentum Continues

Below are the predictions for Week 17 of CBS Renew/Cancel, followed by an analysis. Let us know what you think by voting in the poll and leaving a comment! This week, Raid The Cage is upgraded from Tilts Cancel to Leans Renew.

Raid The Cage
Raid The Cage’s ratings have improved significantly since moving to Wednesdays, hitting another series high on Wednesday, January 10. With a 0.33 Adults 18-49 Live + Same Day rating, it tied for second on broadcast for the night with an NBA game. The issue is the one show it came behind was its lead-in; a 0.44 for The Price Is Right At Night. While a 0.33 is a series high in raw ratings for Raid The Cage, its 75% retention rate is mediocre and arguably leaves room for improvement. It actually had better retention rates airing on Fridays in the fall. Its series premiere retained nearly 90% of the demo audience of its Price Is Right At Night lead-in, and it managed to hold or even grow from Let’s Make A Deal Primetime on certain occasions. Raid The Cage seemingly has two modes: low ratings with high retention, or solid ratings with mediocre retention. From a ratings standpoint alone, Raid The Cage clearly isn’t a flop like Lotería Loca, but it’s also not at the level where its presence adds much value to CBS’s schedule.

Raid The Cage is upgraded to Leans Renew in this column partially because of the ratings bump, but mostly because of CBS’s perceived ambition to renew it. CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach cited Raid The Cage of one of the key shows developed by Mitch Graham, who is being promoted to Executive Vice President of Alternative Programming. Plus, as mentioned in the Week 16 column, it would be easy to promote the upcoming Daymon Wayans Jr. co-starring Poppa’s House during Raid The Cage Season 2, if it can air in time. Ultimately, being presumably cheap to produce and showing at least some potential might be enough after all for Raid The Cage to squeak by with a Season 2 renewal.
