EVAN, SCOTT, AMANDA, and HECTOR are in their meeting room. They have six pizzas on the table.
SCOTT
Can you guys believe we’re about to do this?!
EVAN
Eat a pizza? I do that all the time.
SCOTT
No, order a show to series.
AMANDA
I can’t believe we tracked down the creator.
HECTOR
You’re welcome.
SCOTT
Did we ever decide on which one of us was gonna make the call?
AMANDA
I’ll do it.
AMANDA dials a number.
AMANDA
Hello is this—
AMANDA looks to everyone else.
EVAN
She forgot the name didn’t she.
AMANDA
Uh…yeah so anyway, I’m an executive for the new streaming service STREAM and the pilot for Terror In America has done really well for us. We’d like to order it to series.
AMANDA pauses.
AMANDA
Well we were thinking 22 episodes but if that’s not in the cards we’ll settle for 20.
AMANDA pauses again.
AMANDA
I see. Well if you change your—
AMANDA
Hung up.
HECTOR
Uh oh.
AMANDA
Yeah so about the show?
HECTOR
What about it?
AMANDA
The studio that owns it found out about its success on STREAM.
EVAN
Probably from all the press releases we did about it.
AMANDA
Yeah. So anyways, they ordered it to series. The creator wanted to do it for STREAM but alas, not happening.
SCOTT
You can’t be serious.
AMANDA
That’s what I’ve been told.
SCOTT
But they passed on it years ago!
AMANDA
Now they want it.
EVAN
This isn’t fair!
HECTOR
Honestly I can see where they’re coming from. They know it’s a hit, why not give it a shot? We were trying to do the same thing.
AMANDA
You know what? It’s fine. At least we still have the pilot.
SCOTT’s phone rings.
SCOTT
Hold on, I gotta take this. It’s from an unknown number.
SCOTT picks up the phone.
SCOTT
Hello? Oh—hello! Pleasure to hear from you, how can I assist?
SCOTT puts the phone on speaker. It’s an executive from the network who just ordered Terror In America to series.
EXECUTIVE
We can’t let you have the pilot to Terror on your little website anymore.
SCOTT
Little website? We’re a streaming service!
EXECUTIVE
We hold the rights to the series. You can have it for a price, though.
AMANDA
What’s your price.
EXECUTIVE
5 million.
AMANDA
Yeah that’s a no. Also shame on you.
SCOTT hangs up.
AMANDA
Okay so we lost our biggest pilot.
HECTOR
Now what?
AMANDA
Go home and get some sleep. Maybe overnight another show will magically get popular and this time, the studio won’t notice.
Disgruntled, everyone gets up and leaves.
