Watson Ordered to Series by CBS

CBS has ordered to series the drama Watson for the 2024-25 TV season. Inspired by the Sherlock Holmes IP, Watson had previously received a potential script-to-series order from the network. The series is a medical drama starring Morris Chestnut, and will be produced by CBS Studios. The cost-effective approach to pilot development means Watson was ordered straight-to-series without a filmed pilot, further antiquating the concept of pilot season.

This is not CBS’s first drama based on the Sherlock Holmes IP; drama Elementary aired 154 episodes over the course of 7 seasons from 2012 to 2019. Despite sub-par ratings, Elementary received a lucrative syndication deal for $3 million per episode that included a run on the now-defunct WGN America.

Watson is CBS’s third series order for the 2024-25 TV season, with drama Matlock and comedy Poppa’s House both pushed back from this season due to the strikes. It comes after it was announced that S.W.A.T., Young Sheldon, Bob Hearts Abishola, and Blue Bloods will all conclude by the end of the calendar year.
