Saturday TV Ratings 12/23/23: Extended Family Has Pitiful Post-NFL Showing, Night Court Rates Below Season One Average, SNL Christmas Grows in Second Airing (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: NBC used their NFL lead-in to boost the series premiere of new sitcom Extended Family (0.71), but the results were less than satisfactory. If Family were to carry over even half of this rating for its Tuesday time slot debut, it'd be in a great position to succeed, but it is hard to imagine that that will happen. At 8:30, Night Court (0.46) took away enough football help to beat most of its spring 2023 showings but still lost out to the Saturday Night Live Christmas Special (0.56) that came right after. On the sports front, ABC's Utah vs. Northwestern college football game (0.59) was well above Fox's St. John's v. CT college basketball game (0.19). CBS re-ran When Christmas Was Young (0.12) and 48 Hours (0.15). The CW aired Christmas With The Chosen: Holy Night (0.05).

Finals Update: College Football: UT v. Northwestern (+0.2) adjusted up. Extended Family (-0.2) and Night Court (-0.1) adjusted down.
