Thursday TV Ratings 4/16/20: Mom Ends Down, In The Dark Returns Low, Disney Special Massive (UPDATED)

In recent years, ABC has seen massive Nielsen success for event broadcasts such as 'The Little Mermaid Live!' (2.6) and 'Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time' (2.4). 'Disney Family Singalong' (2.6) turned out to be no different, posting a colossal rating that put any scripted program on the alphabet network to shame. That lead-in juice helped 'Station 19' (1.3) hold even at its season high in its move from 8pm to 9pm. 'How To Get Away with Murder' (0.6) was steady at 10 and remained a good bit above its dreadful fall numbers.

The only network that seemed visibly affected by the Disney special was CBS as 'Young Sheldon' (1.0) lost three-tenths from its last original. 'Man With a Plan' (0.7) held onto last week's number at 8:30 but 'Mom' (0.8) lost two-tenths for its 9pm finale. Newbie 'Broke' (0.7) continued to look fairly promising at 9:30, steady with last week. 'Tommy' (0.5) looked a little less impressive at 10, down a tick from its high point.

NBC's lineup was resilient against the 'Singalong' with a repeat of 'Superstore' (0.6) actually performing a tenth better than last week at 8pm, matching a few first-run episodes. Lead-outs 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' (0.6) and 'Will & Grace' (0.6) were even while the season (series?) finale of 'Indebted' (0.4) gained a precious tenth at 9:30. 'Law & Order: SVU' (0.7) rounded out the night up a notch.

'Last Man Standing' (0.6) lost a tenth on FOX and led into another round of repeats (0.5/0.4). The CW had a helping of 0.1s with 'Katy Keene' and the season two premiere of 'In The Dark'.

Thursday TV Ratings 4/9/20: Double Man With a Plan Down Behind Repeat, Broke Also Down, Grey’s Anatomy Ends Steady (UPDATED)

ABC's 'Grey's Anatomy' (1.4) closed out its 16th season steady with its last episode, demolishing the competition and posting a rating higher than even its year-ago finale (1.3). Earlier in the night, 'Station 19' (1.3) perked up to tie its season high. 'How To Get Away with Murder' (0.6) wrapped up the night even with its previous broadcast.

New comedy 'Broke' (0.7) saw a two-tenth decline from last week's premiere (0.9) on CBS. The silver lining was that it fully retained its weaker 'Man with a Plan' lead-in. 'Man with a Plan' itself (0.8/0.7) was down a tenth at 8:30 from last week and another tenth at 9pm. That drop seems excusable as it had a repeat lead-in from 'Young Sheldon' (0.9).

On NBC, 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' (0.6) ticked up from last week's season low despite leading out of a 'Superstore' repeat (0.5). It led into a down 'Will & Grace' (0.6) and a steady 'Indebted' (0.3). The latter was beaten out by a 'Law & Order: SVU' encore (0.4) at 10.

'Last Man Standing' (0.6) lost a tenth on Fox and led into a decently-rated repeat lineup (0.5/0.4). The CW settled for repeats of 'Arrow' (0.1) and 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.1).

Thursday TV Ratings 3/19/20: Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Grey’s Anatomy Tie Season Highs, Station 19, Superstore and Will & Grace Make New Season Highs (UPDATED)

A week of soaring ratings continues!

ABC saw perhaps the most impressive gains, with Grey's Anatomy nearing megahit numbers at 9 with a 1.5, up three tenths and hitting its highest rating since September. Grey's is down a pretty large amount this season, but this is its most impressive year-to-year trend, down only 4%. Station 19 was also pretty impressive, gaining two tenths a tying its series high from October 2018. The show has had a massive ratings renaissance this year, up 8%, and this episode is up an astonishing 69% from the year-ago rating. At 10, it was a less impressive result for A Million Little Things, up only a tenth despite the heavily-increased lead-in, with a rating in-line with its season average but far worse retention than usual.

NBC also had some impressive ratings feats. Superstore returned from a hiatus up three tenths, a tenth ahead of its season-high and up a notch from last year's rating. Behind it, Brooklyn Nine-Nine rose another tenth, tying its season high. It doesn't look as impressive considering that it had been on the rise in prior weeks behind Superstore repeats, but it's still doing a lot better now than it was earlier in the season. Will & Grace easily hit a new season-high, up two tenths from both its last episode and its season high. This hasn't been an impressive final season for Will & Grace ratings-wise, but this week's rating is up 19% from last season, its first time not posting a double-digit loss. Indebted gained a tenth at 9:30, hitting a new series high. A coronavirus-related special at 10 posted a strong 0.9, ahead of anything SVU has done all season but two tenths shy of the 20/20 coronavirus special earlier this week.

Fox's gains weren't quite as noticeable. Last Man Standing was up two tenths from its series low to a 0.8, ahead of its season average. Outmatched was only up a tenth behind it, and Deputy was also up a tenth. Neither one of their gains is terribly strong, but their ratings last night are both ahead of their season averages, just like Last Man Standing.

The CW's Katy Keene and Legacies both held steady, with Katy Keene losing to repeats that aired earlier in the week.

CBS had repeats at 0.8/0.7/0.7/0.5/0.4, with Tommy's repeat notably tying the rating for its series premiere.

Thursday TV Ratings 3/5/20: Grey’s Anatomy Gets a Bump for Major Episode, Young Sheldon Fractional, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Will & Grace Rise

Last night was a big night for Grey's Anatomy, which bid adieu to original cast member Justin Chambers' character Alex Karev after sixteen seasons. The episode was promoted more than usual and say a significant boost in interest, up two tenths over the previous episode. That wasn't enough to help out lead-out A Million Little Things, which held onto its series low despite that higher lead-in. It also didn't help lead-in Station 19 hold onto its 1.1 from last week's crossover. All three shows remained the leaders in their timeslots this week, with AMLT claiming sole possession of #1 at 10 PM.

CBS sitcoms returned from a week off, mostly steady. The one notable exception was Young Sheldon. Previously the only currently-running broadcast comedy to never dip below 1.0, the show did just that this week. It previously went fractional in preliminary ratings in October before adjusting up to 1.0. At 10, Tommy held onto last week's bounce with its second-straight 0.5

NBC lost its lead-out comedy Superstore and its 10 o'clock drama Law & Order SVU this week, putting them on repeats necessary to stretch their seasons out, but they still saw upticks for two thirds of their original lineup. Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the exiting Will & Grace both recovered a bit from last week's lows, with Nine-Nine now tying The Unicorn to become the #1 comedy in its slot. At 9:30, Indebted dropped to its previous ugly low of 0.3, going from 100% retention to 60% in just a week.

On Fox, leading comedy Last Man Standing took another tumble to 0.6, continuing what has been a middling season for the show in the ratings department. Outmatched stayed steady at an okay 0.5, while Deputy dropped behind it to a 0.5, dropping to 0.4 in one half-hour. On a network as packed as Fox, these numbers aren't great, but these ratings aren't that much different than the rest of the shows on the network.

The CW continued to air their Katy Keene/Legacies (R) lineup to no success whatsoever.
