OFF SCRIPT
Season 1, Episode 7: "Comic-Con"
INT. BLACKRIDGE STUDIOS - MORNING
Harry walks onto set.
Nobody’s working.
That’s immediately wrong.
Crew members stand around watching phones.
Tegan looks horrified.
Aaron somehow looks excited.
Nick is filming himself.
Harry approaches.
HARRY: Why’s nobody
shooting?
Maya walks over holding an email printout.
Already stressed.
MAYA: Comic-Con panel got
moved up.
Beat.
HARRY: What panel?
Everyone stares at him.
MAYA: …the Red Veil
panel.
Harry blinks.
HARRY: We have a panel?
MAYA: In four hours.
Silence.
HARRY: Okay.
Beat.
HARRY: No, seriously.
Okay?
Maya hands him itinerary.
MAYA: You’re moderating
part of it now.
Harry freezes.
HARRY: What?
MAYA: Original moderator
dropped out after fans found old tweets where he said horror wasn’t cinema.
Harry processes that.
HARRY: Honestly fair
enough.

SCRIPT
INT. TALKING HEAD ROOM - MORNING - KARA
KARA: Conventions used to
be celebrations. Now they’re hostage negotiations with cosplay.
INT. VAN - DAY
The cast rides together to convention center.
Awkward energy.
Aaron rehearses answers under his breath.
Nick films outside window.
Clay eats aggressively loud chips.
Zoey stares into middle distance already regretting today.
Harry flips through convention notes.
HARRY: Okay. They
specifically said not to mention: rewrites, leaks, runtime, budget, practical
effects injuries, or “creative disagreements.”
Beat.
ZOEY: So what are we
supposed to talk about?
HARRY: Apparently “the fan
experience.”
Aaron nods seriously.
AARON: That’s smart.
Zoey turns slowly.
ZOEY: No it isn’t.
INT. CONVENTION CENTER - BACKSTAGE - DAY
Absolute chaos.
Fans screaming outside.
Studio assistants running everywhere.
People in elaborate horror cosplay crowd hallways.
Harry peeks through curtain.
Massive audience.
HARRY: Oh no.
Tegan peeks too.
TEGAN: Why are there so
many people dressed like murder victims?
ZOEY: Those are fans.
Kara rushes over.
KARA: Okay. Important: don’t
joke about leaks, don’t promise anything, don’t say “reboot,” and nobody answer
lore questions unless absolutely necessary.
Clay raises hand.
CLAY: What if they ask
lore related questions?
KARA: Smile and wave.
INT. PANEL STAGE - MOMENTS LATER
Huge applause as cast walks out.
Harry clearly uncomfortable immediately.
Aaron LOVES this.
The moderator introduces everyone.
Questions begin.
First fan immediately stands.
FAN #1: Why’d you ruin the
mask?
Silence.
Harry blinks.
HARRY: Hi to you too.
Scattered laughs.
Aaron leans toward mic.
AARON: Actually the new
design honors the emotional DNA of the original…
ZOEY: It’s literally the
same mask.
Audience laughs harder.
Aaron sits back down slightly wounded.
INT. TALKING HEAD ROOM - HARRY
HARRY: Horror fans are
passionate. Which is a positive word for terrifying.
INT. PANEL STAGE - LATER
The panel spirals slowly.
FAN #2: Is the movie
political?
Everyone freezes slightly.
Maxwell watches nervously from backstage.
Harry carefully answers.
HARRY: I mean… not
intentionally?
The fan immediately sits down unsatisfied.
Zoey leans toward Harry quietly.
ZOEY: That somehow made it
worse. What are we doing here?
Another fan stands.
Dressed exactly like Red Veil killer.
FAN #3: What’s your
favorite death scene in the franchise?
Aaron answers instantly.
AARON: The subway kill in
part two.
Entire audience GROANS.
Aaron looks confused.
Nick whispers:
NICK: Wrong answer.
AARON: There’s a wrong
answer?
Zoey quietly into mic:
ZOEY: Apparently yes.
BACKSTAGE - LATER
The panel takes a break.
Everybody stressed.
Aaron pacing.
AARON: Why’d they boo the
subway kill?
ZOEY: Because it’s from
the bad sequel.
AARON: I liked the bad
sequel.
Zoey stares.
ZOEY: Don’t say that
publicly ever again.
Tegan suddenly looks at her phone.
Concerned.
TEGAN: Um.
Harry notices.
HARRY: What?
She turns phone around.
A clip from the panel already online:
“NEW RED VEIL CAST DOESN’T UNDERSTAND FRANCHISE”
Harry exhales.
HARRY: We’re still ON the
panel.
KARA: That’s how fast this
works now.
INT. CONVENTION FLOOR - SAME TIME
Nick accidentally causes chaos.
He casually mentioned online where the cast was backstage.
Now fans crowd security barriers.
Maya storms toward him.
MAYA: Why would you post
that?
NICK: I thought they’d be
excited.
Behind them:
full security panic.
MAYA: They ARE excited.
INT. TALKING HEAD ROOM - MAYA
MAYA: Every actor under
thirty thinks social media is helping. It never helps.
INT. BACKSTAGE HALLWAY - LATER
Harry sits alone for a second decompressing.
Zoey joins him.
Neither talks immediately.
Convention noise echoes everywhere.
HARRY: I think I got
yelled at by a seventeen-year-old dressed as a corpse.
ZOEY: That’s actually
pretty respectful for horror fandom.
Beat.
Harry laughs tiredly.
Then quieter:
HARRY: Do you ever worry
they’re right?
Zoey looks at him.
ZOEY: About what?
HARRY: What if we don’t
understand why people loved these movies?
That lands more honestly than expected.
Zoey thinks.
Then:
ZOEY: People loved them
because they felt weird and personal.
Beat.
ZOEY: Not because the mask
shape was identical.
Harry nods slowly.
That genuinely helps.
INT. PANEL STAGE - FINAL SECTION
The moderator announces exclusive footage.
Crowd erupts.
Harry freezes.
Looks toward Maxwell backstage.
Maxwell gives thumbs up.
Harry didn’t know about footage.
The teaser begins playing.
Dark hallway. Atmosphere. Music. Quick shots.
Actually looks good.
Audience completely silent now.
Engaged.
Then, the teaser abruptly ends with:
“THE VEIL RETURNS.”
Silence.
Then mixed reactions.
Not terrible. Not amazing. Uncertain.
Which honestly feels like victory.
A fan near front suddenly stands.
FAN #4: …Okay but that
actually looked kinda sick.
Audience murmurs agreement.
Harry exhales quietly.
Zoey notices.
Tiny smile.
BACKSTAGE - AFTER PANEL
Energy calmer now.
Not success exactly.
But survival.
Aaron approaches Harry.
AARON: I think I won some
people back.
Beat.
HARRY: You absolutely did
not.
Aaron nods.
AARON: Yeah.
INT. CONVENTION CENTER EXIT - EVENING
The cast exits through back hallway.
Exhausted.
Fans still crowd outside barriers.
One young fan sees Tegan.
Nervous.
YOUNG FAN: Hey.
Tegan turns.
The fan awkwardly holds up old Red Veil DVD.
YOUNG FAN: My mom
showed me these movies when I was little.
Beat.
YOUNG FAN: I hope
yours is good.
Not hostile. Not ironic. Sincere.
Tegan smiles softly.
TEGAN: Yeah, me too.
INT. VAN - NIGHT
Everyone exhausted riding home.
Quiet.
Then Clay speaks.
CLAY: I still think the
subway kill’s underrated.
Entire van immediately groans.
Aaron points at him excitedly.
AARON: THANK you.
Zoey looks out window.
ZOEY: We’re never
surviving this movie.
