Predictions for 03/22/25
Below are the March 22nd renew/cancel predictions for the Fox network in the 2024-25 television season. The numbers listed in the table are the Nielsen rating low, average, and high for each respective program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The "Y2Y (year-to-year) Change" column compares a show's current average to its average from the previous season.
Things have been eerily quiet for Animal Control since it wrapped up its third season on March 13th. On finale night, the Joel McHale sitcom could only match its Adults 18-49 series low (0.13), even as its Next Level Chef lead-in (0.24) gained a hundredth. This is definitely not a promising sign for an aging veteran that the network has yet to renew. In 2024, Fox handed Animal Control a third-season pickup before its second season even began. This year, no such news has materialized. And while the show's streaming numbers may have been respectable at one point in time, it could not even crack the Hulu top 15 during the week of its finale.
But what makes matters worse for Animal Control is that Fox currently has multiple comedies in development for next season (Daddio, First Class Friends, Thunderjacks, an untitled Jim Belushi project). They recently added to that pile with the news that a Ken Jeong vehicle is in the works, as well as Almost Paradise featuring Brooke Shields. There's no guarantee that Fox will pick up all these sitcoms, but the fact that so many are under consideration makes it clear that they want to reinvent their live-action comedy brand. In the event that a handful of these titles make it to series, it's highly unlikely that they'll have room for Animal Control.
It's also worth mentioning that a live-action Fox sitcom has not made it to four seasons since The Last Man on Earth, a show that ended almost seven years ago. Animal Control could beat the odds, but it's more likely that it will follow the path of Call Me Kat, another comedy that gradually weakened during its three-season run. Animal Control's low numbers and non-existence streaming presence make it a prime candidate for cancellation. Thus, the sitcom is now Likely to be Canceled.
Going Dutch also closed out its season on March 13th. The freshman comedy ended with a new series low, dipping to a meager 0.11 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. Considering that a cost-effective reality series like Farmer Wants a Wife can causally return with better numbers, it makes no sense for Fox to keep Dutch around. Fox has not been shy when it comes to handing renewals to first-year programs. Doc and Murder in a Small Town just got them earlier this year. The network has six comedies in development, a potential American Dad! pickup, and a mountain of reality offerings. Like with Animal Control, there's simply no room for Dutch. The series remains Likely to be Canceled.
The FOX Renew/Cancel March Madness tournament returns this week. This four-week voting event, inspired by the NCAA bracket tournament, allows readers the chance to vote for their favorite programs. Though The Cleaning Lady and Alert do not return until March 25th, they will still be included in this tournament.
