Watson Renewed for Season Two

Watson is scrubbing in for season two, as the medical mystery drama has been renewed by CBS. The series was given an early display of confidence when it debuted back in January, with CBS airing it behind the AFC Championship game. It returned a month later with modest ratings, averaging 0.27 for the six episodes that aired in its regular time slot, making it among the lowest-rated scripted series on CBS. Despite that, its delayed ratings and streaming performance have been solid enough for CBS to give the show a second chance. Beyond its own performance, the series' case for renewal was assisted by the amount of shows already canceled by the network, with unowned series like SWAT, FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted, and veteran drama Blue Bloods, already confirmed to be on their way out this season. Watson is owned by CBS, with network ownership growing in importance in recent seasons. The series comes from the same creative team as CBS's previous Sherlock Holmes adaptation, Elementary, though it is otherwise unrelated. Morris Chestnut stars as the titular doctor, alongside Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Ritchie Coster, Richelle Aytes and Inga Schlingmann. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide. With this renewal, only Poppa's House and The Equalizer await renewal decisions.
