Ratings Analysis: On Wednesday, the major broadcast networks reserved the first thirty minutes of the night for President Biden's farewell address. ABC's broadcast (0.46 rating/4.58 million viewers) led the way in both demo and viewership, while NBC (0.35 rating/4.20 million viewers) took second. CBS's showing of the speech (0.34 rating/3.55 million viewers) was right behind NBC, but Fox's broadcast (0.24 rating/1.55 million viewers) could not compete with the big three. After the address, it was a total bloodbath for ABC as new comedy Shifting Gears (0.38, -0.28) lost a massive chunk of last week's premiere rating, and Abbott Elementary (0.34, -0.34) dropped by a whopping 50% from the week-ago Always Sunny crossover. Celebrity Jeopardy! (0.28, -0.13) and What Would You Do? (0.19, -0.06) also declined but less so. The Price Is Right At Night (0.27, -0.10) and Raid the Cage (0.22, -0.09) slipped on CBS. NBC aired repeats of Chicago Med (0.20), Fire (0.16), and PD (0.18). Special Forces: World's Toughest Test (0.24, -0.05) shed a few hundredths on Fox. Inside the NFL (0.03, -0.01) ticked down on the CW. Key: (R) = repeat.

Wednesday TV Ratings 7/24/24: ABC Dominates Coverage of President Biden Address, Big Brother Down, Claim to Fame Hits Series Low [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: Coverage of President Biden's address occupied the 8 p.m. time slot on Wednesday evening, with ABC (0.69) taking the lead as usual. CBS (0.43) and NBC (0.39) were in second and third respectively, while Fox (0.27) found itself in last place. After the address, Fox aired the season finale of Gordon Ramsay's Food Stars (0.16, +0.01) and got a slight uptick out of it. On ABC, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (0.37, -0.01) dipped, while Claim to Fame (0.22, -0.08) plummeted. CBS's Big Brother (0.52, -0.04) was down from its premiere rating from last Wednesday, and The Real CSI: Miami (0.14, -0.05) also declined. Monday TV Ratings 7/15/24: Republican National Convention Drops from Opening Night of 2020, Biden/Lester Holt Interview OK, The Bachelorette Slides [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: On opening night, NBC's broadcast of the Republican National Convention (0.33) was a step above ABC's showing (0.30). CBS (0.23) was last amongst the big three. Earlier in the night, NBC aired American Ninja Warrior (0.31, 0.00) and an interview with President Biden conducted by Lester Holt (0.34). ABC's The Bachelorette (0.37, -0.08) was down markedly from last week's premiere. Over on Fox, Name That Tune (0.21, -0.02) and The 1% Club (0.21, -0.01) both dipped. All American (0.08, 0.00) was steady for its finale on the CW, and spinoff All American: Homecoming (0.06, 0.00) matched last week's premiere rating. Key: (R) = repeat. (F) = finale.

Thursday TV Ratings 7/11/24: ESPYS Decline from 2023, President Biden Press Conference Leads, Shark Week Rises, Impractical Jokers Returns Down [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: The 2024 ESPY Awards (0.38) dipped on ABC, with the ceremony declining by 7% from 2023's show (0.41) in the Adults 18-49 demographic. Earlier in the night, the Alphabet Network led the way with their coverage of President Biden's NATO Press Conference (0.52). NBC's coverage (0.33) took second, while CBS's (0.32) was close behind in third. Fox (0.18) was in last place and used their showing of the press conference as a lead-in for Don't Forget the Lyrics! (0.26, 0.00). Later in the night, CBS's repeats of Ghosts (0.15), Elsbeth (0.10), and Fire Country (0.11) fell behind NBC's encores of Law & Order (0.18), SVU (0.20), and Organized Crime (0.20). Thursday TV Ratings 3/7/24: State of the Union Rises from 2023, Young Sheldon and Ghosts Slip (Final Ratings w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: President Biden's State of the Union Address took over primetime, and the ratings were generally higher than they were in 2023. NBC's coverage (0.69 rating/4.47 million viewers) led the way in the Adults 18-49 demographic, but ABC (0.68 rating/5.24 million viewers) had the peacock network beat in terms of total viewership, despite being a hair below them in the demo. CBS (0.49 rating/4.09 million viewers) took a distant fourth, while Fox (0.30 rating/1.77 million viewers) was unsurprisingly in last place. For the 10:30 p.m. Republican Response, it was ABC (0.36 rating/3.36 million viewers) that took the top spot, beating NBC (0.30 rating/2.63 million viewers) in both the demo and viewership. CBS (0.26 rating/2.65 million viewers) pulled slightly ahead of NBC in viewership but was dead-last in the demo. In the 8 p.m. hour, CBS comedies Young Sheldon (0.50, -0.02) and Ghosts (0.48, -0.03) dipped slightly, but Next Level Chef (0.36, +0.04) grew on Fox. ABC had a strong rerun of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune (0.38), while NBC re-ran Law & Order (0.22). Son of a Critch (0.05, 0.00) and Children Ruin Everything (0.04, 0.00) were stable on the CW.
