Below are the April 5th renew/cancel predictions for the Fox network in the 2024-25 television season. The numbers listed in the table are the Nielsen rating low, average, and high for each respective program in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The "Y2Y (year-to-year) Change" column compares a show's current average to its average from the previous season.

Earlier this week, the Fox network made a major cartoon commitment, ensuring that multiple familiar titles will be a part of their programming library for the remainder of the decade. Four-season renewals were handed out to four animated staples, meaning that The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob's Burgers, and American Dad! will be airing original episodes on Fox through the 2028-2029 television season. This announcement also doubles as official confirmation that American Dad! will be returning to the network after its decade-long stint on TBS, an idea that was previously floated around by various outlets. The Simpsons, Bob's, and Family Guy were all listed as certain renewals before this announcement, so all three are correct predictions for this column.

So, what does this mean for the less-established Fox cartoons? Does being left out of this mass renewal leave them in jeopardy? For now, it appears that this "megadeal" won't hurt all of them. It's crucial to point out that these four-season pickups come with 15-episode orders, a noticeable departure from the full 22 that was previously the standard. Admittedly, this is good news for the newcomers, as there will be ample room for them to share slots with the legacy cartoons.

However, on a show-by-show basis, each one is dealing with a unique set of circumstances. Universal Basic Guys is already renewed for a second season, so it was never in trouble. Grimsburg has not received an official pickup, but several episodes from its second cycle have yet to air. Episodes with the production codes 202, 206, and 207 have not been placed on the schedule yet, even as 208 and 209 have made it to air. Even without a proper renewal, this means that it will probably be back on the schedule. On top of that, its season two ratings average was on par with its first, even though season one's average was inflated by a football-boosted premiere. Fox has been adamant about giving these cartoons time to build an audience, and Grimsburg has done at least a little better in 2025 than it did in 2024, so Fox's strategy may be paying off to some degree. It remains a Likely Renewal. Krapopolis has never been a ratings winner, but it has recently shown signs of stability. It continues to regularly match its 9 p.m. lead-in in the more challenging 9:30 slot. With a fourth production cycle yet to air, it is clearly coming back in the 2025-2026 television season.

The series that is in the most danger is The Great North. The fact that Fox made North the 9 p.m. anchor means they no longer see it as a newcomer in need of nurturing, but they also don't see it a legacy show worth including in their mass renewal. Because of this, the series is now Likely to be Canceled. Fox is set to get this one past the 88-episode mark by the end of the season, so they'll soon have the total needed for a traditional syndication deal. From there, its future looks uncertain. For one, its Nielsen ratings are abysmal, with the latest episode scoring a feeble 0.13 in the Adults 18-49 demographic, several ticks below its Family Guy lead-in (0.19). The remainder of its fifth season order does need a place to air, but Fox previously dumped the last batch of Duncanville episodes on Hulu. The same could easily be done with The Great North. It is unlikely that Fox will bring the Tobins back for a sixth season.

Fox Renew/Cancel March Madness continues!

Round 2 voting is officially over for FOX Renew/Cancel March Madness. Animal Control put up a good fight, but it was no match for Alert: Missing Persons Unit, which will now advance to the semifinals. Doc clobbered Grimsburg in the first round, but it lagged behind 9-1-1: Lone Star this time around. In the match-up of two animated titans, it was Family Guy that slipped ahead of The Simpsons. And Bob's Burgers was simply no match for Rescue HI-Surf

Four shows remain in this tournament. Make sure to vote for your favorite ones to ensure that they make it to the finals. Polls will close on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
