Sunday TV Ratings 6/20/21: Bless the Harts Ends with a Low, US Open and Olympic Trials Lead for NBC, Celebrity Family Feud and The Chase Stable (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: It was series finale night on the Fox network, with two canceled comedies airing their last-ever episodes. 'Bless the Harts' (0.1) ended its run in horrific fashion, losing a tenth and tying its series low. Repeats of 'Duncanville' (0.1) and 'The Simpsons' (0.2) sandwiched the finale. 'The Moodys' (0.2) fared slightly better at 9:30 by rising a tenth from its previous installment. It led out of encores of 'The Great North' (0.2) and 'Bob's Burgers' (0.2). Moving away from miserable numbers, NBC struck gold with the 'U.S. Open Golf Championship' (1.3), 'Olympic Swimming Trials' (1.0), and 'Olympic Track & Field Trials' (0.6). It's rare to see anything above a 1.0 in the summer, so this served as an easy win for the peacock network. On ABC, the repeat of 'AFV' (0.5), 'Celebrity Family Feud' (0.7) and 'The Chase' (0.6) all tied their week-ago showings, but 'To Tell the Truth' (0.4) gave back a tenth at 10. CBS got a passable result out of a '60 Minutes' rerun (0.3) and a dreadful number out of a presentation of the 2014 film 'Selma' (0.1). 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.1) and 'Batwoman' (0.1) were unchanged on the CW.

Finals Update: Celebrity Family Feud (+0.1), To Tell The Truth (+0.1), US Olympic Track & Field Trials (+0.1), and repeats of America's Funniest Home Videos (+0.1) and Bob's Burgers (+0.1) adjusted up. US Olympic Swimming Trials (-0.2) adjusted down.

Sunday TV Ratings 6/6/21: Kennedy Center Honors Low, Celebrity Family Feud Returns Near Previous Season High, To Tell The Truth Lower (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: ABC's 'Celebrity Family Feud' (0.8) debuted in stellar shape, matching its summer 2020 start in the 18-49 demo and outpacing it in total viewers (5.46 mil. vs. 4.63 mil.). In the 9pm slot, 'The Chase' (0.6) inched up from its last episode (0.47 on 3/4/21) and was on-par with the second-half of its first season. Meanwhile, 'To Tell the Truth' (0.4) had a rough time on premiere night, tying its series low and going below the majority of its winter 2021 episodes. Much of that likely has to do with the game show moving from 8pm to a less desirable 10pm slot. At 7, a repeat of 'AFV' (0.7) posted a surprisingly strong result. After taking the entirety of 2020 off, CBS's broadcast of the 'Kennedy Center Honors' (0.3) came in 50% below the previous ceremony from December 2019 (0.6). A repeat of '60 Minutes' (0.4) preceded the festivities while an encore of 'NCIS: New Orleans' (0.2) occupied the 10pm hour. NBC got decent mileage out of the 'US Championship Gymnastics' (0.4) and a repeat of 'America's Got Talent' (0.3). Fox brought back 'The Moodys' (0.2/0.2) after putting it on a month-long hiatus, the comedy lost a tenth and dropped to a new low. Earlier in the night, 'Bless the Harts' (0.2) aired its penultimate episode, with encores of 'Duncanville' (0.2), 'The Simpsons' (0.3), and 'The Great North' (0.2) surrounding the originals. 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.1) and 'Batwoman' (0.1) were both flat on the CW.

Preliminary Analysis: CBS's 'NCIS: New Orleans' (0.5) failed to move the needle on series finale night, merely tying its previous episode in the 10pm slot. 'New Orleans' joins a growing list of shows that have either barely risen or didn't rise at all for their final installments. Earlier in the night, '60 Minutes' (1.0) got a healthy boost from airing after the 'PGA Tournament' (1.3), doubling what it posted a week ago (0.5). The finales of 'The Equalizer' (0.6) and 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.6) were flat at 8 and 9 respectively. Over on Fox, 'Duncanville' (0.3/0.2) arrived in rough shape for its second season debut. The Amy Poehler cartoon tied its series low at 8:30 and hit a new one at 9:30. 'The Simpsons' (0.3) inched down on finale night and went below a million viewers for the first time in its run. 'Bless the Harts' (0.2) and the 'Bob's Burgers' finale (0.4) held even. NBC's telecast of the 2021 'Billboard Music Awards' (0.6) was down two-tenths from the last ceremony that aired in October 2020 (0.8). The season finale of 'American Idol' (0.7) was steady on ABC, with 'AFV' (0.7) rising two-tenths at 7. On the CW, 'Legends of Tomorrow predictably posted a 0.1. A repeat of 'Big Trick Energy' (0.0) somehow went even lower at 9.

Preliminary Analysis: With its fate still up in the air, NBC's 'Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist' (0.2) lost a tenth for its season finale, two-tenths below last year's closer (0.4). 'Ellen's Game of Games' (0.3) also shed a tenth in the 8pm slot, but 'Good Girls' (0.3) tied its previous broadcast at 10. CBS saw some slippage early in the night with '60 Minutes' (0.5, -0.1) and 'The Equalizer' (0.6, -0.1), but 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.6) and 'NCIS: New Orleans' (0.5) were able to match their week-ago showings. 'AFV' (0.6), 'American Idol' (0.7), and recently-renewed 'Rookie' (0.5) all ticked down on ABC, with 'Idol' down about a tenth-and-a-half and the other two losing a tenth. Fox's animated sitcom 'The Simpsons' (0.4, +0.1) rebounded after last week's series low, despite its 'Bless the Harts' lead-in (0.2, -0.05) losing a few hundredths. 'The Great North' (0.3) held even for its season finale as 'Bob's Burgers' (0.4, -0.1) and the 'Family Guy' finale (0.4, -0.1) lost a notch. The CW got another pair of 0.1s out of dramas 'Legends of Tomorrow' and 'Batwoman'.

Preliminary Analysis: Fresh off of a three-week break, Fox's 'The Simpsons' (0.3) crashed to an awful new series low, barely building from a steady 'Bless the Harts' (0.2). What made matters worse for the yellow family is that fellow veterans 'Bob's Burgers' (0.5) and 'Family Guy' (0.5) were each up a tenth, posting their strongest ratings in a month. In the midst, 'The Great North' (0.3) held even in the 8:30 slot, pulling into a tie with 'Simpsons'. ABC's 'American Idol' (0.8) matched its last episode but lead-in 'AFV' (0.6) and lead-out 'The Rookie' (0.6) each picked up a tenth. CBS saw one-tenth declines across the board for '60 Minutes' (0.5), 'The Equalizer' (0.6), and 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.5). At 10, 'NCIS: New Orleans' (0.5) managed to avoid slipping. NBC aired an 'American Ninja Warrior' special (0.3) that failed to improve from the usual 'Ellen's Game of Games'. 'Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist' (0.2) inched down at 9 but 'Good Girls' (0.3) grew from there. 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.1) and 'Batwoman' (0.1) were unchanged on the CW.
