The Great North Canceled After Five Seasons

Fox is officially departing The Great North. Aimee Steinberger, a director on Fox's veteran animated series, confirmed the news of the show's demise on Bluesky last week, in a post that has thus far gone relatively unnoticed. She stated that Fox gave them the official word that the show was canceled on September 23, though the network has not yet confirmed that news to the public. The series ran 97 episodes over its five seasons, and was created by longtime Bob's Burgers writers, sharing much of the production team with that series. Loren Bouchard, creator of Bob's Burgers, served as executive producer of The Great North. While the show was a veteran part of Fox's lineup, it was never a ratings standout. This season, it was thrown all over Fox's schedule, and averaged just 0.14 in the key 18-49 ratings demographic, hitting several series lows over its final season. The show first aired as part of the network's Sunday lineup in the winter and spring, before being placed in the 9:30 time slot as part of Fox's Thursday night summer cartoon block. It aired what ultimately was its series finale back on Sunday nights, enjoying somewhat of an NFL boost and rising to its highest ratings of the entire season. Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate, Will Forte, Dulce Sloan, Apart Nancherla and Paul Rust provided the voices of the leading Tobin family in the series. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

On Fox, sophomore drama Doc (0.79) soared to a new series high for its season premiere, with the help of ample NFL inflation of course. In the 9 p.m. hour, The Great North (0.27/0.22) closed out its fifth season with a season high. NBC's Falcons v. Vikings NFL broadcast (4.67) was more than a full point below last week's game (5.80).
