Big Brother: After an extended COVID-induced hiatus, the long-running CBS summer hit returned this week with a potent 1.0, far ahead of just about any other show on TV this summer. The show has been a massive success throighout its run and there's no sign that that will change as this season goes on. With CBS having a rough summer with its few originals they had, Big Brother's success is all the more welcome. It's clear that it will be back, and it is a CERTAIN RENEWAL.

Taskmaster: The CW has truly done the unimaginable. After a single episode, they pulled "new" show Taskmaster from the air, never to be seen in the States again. A British series, it's been on the air for multiple seasons in its home country. It didn't translate well here, though, and became the lowest-rated lauch in the history of The CW, with under a quarter million viewers. It's an unexpected move, as The CW rarely pulls anything, especially in the summer. Their willingness to ax this show so soon begs the question: how low is too low for cheap, acquired summer fare on the CW? Speaking of which...

Fridge Wars: This cooking series also debuted this week, and pretty much nobody cared. The local lead-in made it look a good deal stronger than Taskmaster, but its 0.1 in 18-49 with 400k viewers is still a very low start for an 8 PM show. It isn't renewed back in Canada, its original country, yet, meaning it very well could be canceled there. Even if it's not, there's a real chance that The CW could just not air it, given the low interest in it. It's always tricky predicting the fates of these acquired productions, and this one is arguably one of their biggest flops yet, making it even trickier. It starts out LEANING CANCELLATION.

Coroner: The Canadian medical crime series debuted just last night on The CW and grew a ton from its lead-in in viewers. It was picked up for two seasons in May and I'll consider it already renewed in this column.
