INT. APARTMENT - DAY
Andrew is sitting on the couch looking at a photo of him, Sarah, and Edison.
Edison enters. He dumps his bags on the floor.
EDISON
It’s over. Summer is over. It went by so fast. Why did it go so fast.
ANDREW
Huh?
EDISON
Nothing. How was your summer?
ANDREW
Good. I hung out with some friends from high school. Oh and I finally started watching Game of Thrones.
EDISON
Dude, it’s way too late to start getting into Game of Thrones.
ANDREW
Well not everyone has HBO. How was your summer?
EDISON
Fine. Just fine.
ANDREW
What happened?
EDISON
Nothing. I just went on a few dates. Tried a few dating apps.
ANDREW
And?
EDISON
They were good. They were fine. Just fine.
ANDREW
It’s been three months. I thought you said you were over Brittaney.
EDISON
I am. I am. It’s just… I’ll say I am but then I’ll see her on my Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter and she looks like she’s having fun.
ANDREW
Look buddy, Brittaney’s gone. For now. There are plenty of fish in the sea.
EDISON
Actually, I read an article about how global warming is killing most of the fish population.
ANDREW
When did you start reading the news?
EDISON
Like I said, it’s been a long summer.
ANDREW
My point is, it’s a new year. New people attending college. I’m sure we’ll make some new friends and who knows, maybe you’ll fall in love with one of them.
EDISON
You think so?
ANDREW
That’s what happened last year.
EDISON
You and Gabby still together?
ANDREW
That’s the 10th time you asked me all summer dude.
EDISON
I’m just curious and honestly also surprised. I did not expect you two to last this long. I lost 20 bucks.
ANDREW
You bet on my relationship?
EDISON
I was going to split the money with you. So, are you two still together?
ANDREW
For the 10th time, yes.
EDISON
Wow, you guys are in love.
ANDREW
Yes, yes we are.
EDISON
So, uhhhhhh have you talked to Sarah at all?
ANDREW
No. No I tried texting her but she won’t respond. She leaves me on “read”. I want to be friends but…
EDISON
Love is complicated.
ANDREW
Yeah. It is.
EDISON
You know what we need to do, we need to have a night out. Just you and me. No girls. Just us guys.
ANDREW
What exactly do you have in mind?
EDISON
Word is that Sigma Phi Alpha is throwing another welcome party for the freshmen.
ANDREW
They got busted by the police last year. Remember?
EDISON
Their holding it at an old frat house that was shutdown because it tested positive for asbestos.
ANDREW
I don’t know.
EDISON
Dude you said so yourself, this year we can meet new people. I may be able to meet my new Brittaney.
ANDREW
I thought you said it’d be just us guys?
EDISON
Yes. Just us guys and some other partygoers. Some who just happen to be female. C’mon, what do you say?
Andrew pauses.
ANDREW
Ok.
EXT. OLD FRAT HOUSE - NIGHT
Andrew and Edison drive up to the old frat house. It is crowded with partygoers. Andrew and Edison get out of the car.
EDISON
Ahhhh it’s good to be back.
INT. OLD FRAT HOUSE - NIGHT
Andrew and Edison enter the old frat house. The music is blaring and there is alcohol and food.
ANDREW
This looks like the opening scene of CSI. Right before they find the body.
EDISON
Ok, look at 12 o’ clock hot chick checking me out. You good on your own?
ANDREW
I thought it was our night.
EDISON
It is.
Edison leaves Andrew and joins the partygoers. Andrew goes to the snack table where another partygoer is getting food.
ANDREW
Hey.
PARTYGOER
Who the hell are you?
ANDREW
It’s nice to meet you too.
The Partygoer leaves. Sarah appears at the snack table.
ANDREW
Sarah?
Sarah is surprised to see him.
SARAH
Oh, hi.
ANDREW
How are you? I’ve been trying to text you.
SARAH
Uh yeah. I got all of your messages and voicemails.
ANDREW
Can we talk? I feel like we left things unresolved.
SARAH
No. No I don’t want to talk. I want to enjoy the party with Calvin.
ANDREW
You and Calvin are back together?
SARAH
Yeah.
ANDREW
Well, I’m happy for you.
SARAH
Thanks.
Sarah leaves.
Edison is talking to a sorority girl.
EDISON
So what’s your name?
COURTNEY
Courtney.
EDISON
You now, that sounds like my ex girlfriend's name. Her name was Brittaney. She was the love of my life. And then she left. To find herself in Italy.
Edison begins crying. Courtney leaves. Andrew approaches Sarah.
ANDREW
Sarah can we please talk. Please. Just for a second.
Andrew and Sarah walk to a less crowded part of the house.
ANDREW
I’m sorry. I hate how we left things.
SARAH
Is that all?
ANDREW
You’re still mad.
SARAH
No.
ANDREW
Then what? I told you I’m sorry. I’m sorry we can’t be together. I want to be friends.
SARAH
I don’t.
Sarah leaves. Edison appears next to Andrew. His eyes are red and watery.
EDISON
This party blows. Let’s just go back to our apartment.
Andrew and Edison leave the party. They walk to their car.
ANDREW
Did something happen to you in their?
EDISON
No. You?
ANDREW
(Sigh)
No.
INT. ANDREW & EDISON’S APARTMENT - NIGHT
Andrew and Edison sit on their couch.
EDISON
I’m not over Brittaney.
ANDREW
I think I screwed things up with Sarah.
EDISON
School hasn’t even started yet and we already have problems.
ANDREW
It’s gonna be a long year.
EDISON
I’m ready for break.
