ABC Renew/Cancel Week 7: ABC Will Keep the Conner Family Together + ABC Renew/Cancel March Madness Championship Game

Numerous shows on ABC were granted renewals in the past week, leaving just three shows awaiting pickups for next season. We take a look at The Conners this week, as the veteran comedy remains in limbo ahead of a potential seventh season. Plus, it's the championship game of the ABC Renew/Cancel March Madness Tournament!

Grey's Anatomy (0.47, 0.39-0.56)
Will Trent (0.35, 0.33-0.38)

9-1-1, Grey's Anatomy and Will Trent: Last week, ABC handed out renewals to half of the shows that still had outstanding decisions. Dramas 9-1-1, Grey's Anatomy and Will Trent were all renewed, with  9-1-1 and Grey's Anatomy locking down additional seasons on Tuesday and Will Trent being renewed the day after. All have been strong performers for ABC, and all are correct predictions. These pickups means one ABC drama, Will Trent's fellow Tuesday drama The Rookie, still has its fate up in the air.

The Conners: Left out of the renewals this week is ABC's longest-running comedy, The Conners. While it's rarely good to be one of only three shows not yet renewed on your network, I don't think being left out means anything for The Conners. All three of the recent renewals were owned shows that didn't require contractural negotiations, while The Conners is both unowned and has to go through contract talks each season due to the unique circumstances that led to its creation. Not since season one, back in 2019, has the show been picked up for another season before May. All the signs thus far are pointing towards another renewal. Its ratings are still fine, and, as I've mentioned in previous updates, the show has streaming and syndication deals to offset the cost, making it more likely that its production company will want to bargain for another season with ABC. The sixth season wrapped production last week, so it certainly doesn't seem like the writers or the cast are planning for this to be the final season, in spite of what John Goodman hinted at last year. A seventh season seems to be the plan at this point, and I think it'll get there. It LEANS RENEWAL.

ABC Renew/Cancel March Madness Championship Game!

For the last week, readers have voting in two polls in the ABC Renew/Cancel March Madness Final Four polls! In the first poll, #8 seed Station 19 continues an incredible Cinderella run, making the championship game after demolishing Will Trent with nearly 95% of the vote, greatly improving on last week's 16-point win over 9-1-1. In the second poll, The Rookie erased an early lead by #2 seed and took nearly 61% of the vote in the end, advancing to the finals. In the cases of both shows in our championship game, they defeated a higher seed in both the Elite Eight and Final Four rounds, making this the ultimate underdog story. You can vote in the poll below to name our winner in the first annual ABC Renew/Cancel March Madness. In a minor switch-up, results for this poll will remain secret until next week, to add a bit of suspense to the championship game, so make sure to return next Monday to find out the winner. You can also vote in the NBC March Madness here, the Fox March Madness here, and the CBS March Madness here.
