Everyone can agree that 2020 was quite the year. With phrases such as “social distancing,” “quarantine,” and “the new normal” heard practically everyday, 2020 was a year nobody could have imagined. Historical Ratings Database
In 2020, The TV Ratings Guide completed its Historical Ratings Database, otherwise known as TVRG’s Ratings Library. With it, The TV Ratings Guide provides readers with seasonal averages for broadcast TV shows dating back to the 1950s.
More extensive cable news ratings coverage
In summer 2020, The TV Ratings Guide made an addition to its daily cable ratings posts by making a table featuring A25-54 and A18-34 ratings for cable news shows airing in prime time, on top of the A18-49 and Total Viewers reported in the standard table. In November, Newsmax TV was added into the table. We have also posted weekly tables of prime time cable news ratings, as well as analyses.
An expanded TVRGO (with a new name)
Once known as TVRGO (TVRG Originals), our series of short original nightly scripts has now taken the name TVRG Productions. 2020 saw the premiere of Bar Exam, Frances in the Kitchen, Put Me In, Raymond Island, and What In The World!, alongside several miniseries. Any given TVRG Productions show can be regularly seen in the Popular Posts list. Veteran series Marietta and The Bullpen topped the list multiple times this year.
Individual page views for TVRG Productions are hitting all-time highs. Several shows broke TVRG Productions page view records, only to be outdone by other shows.
The TV Ratings Guide In The Press & Increased Popularity
Google is friendlier to The TV Ratings Guide now than it’s ever been. Many of our readers have found us through Google search, which has led to some articles to go viral. We have also received attention from verified users on Twitter, whether they be show runners, actors, writers, producers, public figures, or hosts of reality shows (shoutout to Chris Harrison and Phil Keoghan). Typing in the website’s URL in Twitter’s search bar will provide results that include users ending arguments by attaching links to The TV Ratings Guide.
Due in part to this, The TV Ratings Guide has seen traffic grow exponentially this year. We have also grown a loyal fanbase of viewers of The Misery Index checking out our Tuesday Cable Ratings. Other reasons for growth include readers slowly but surely stumbling upon our many ratings databases, as well as the shutdown of TV by the Numbers.
Our top five most-viewed months all occurred in 2020, some with averages we never thought possible. Six of our top ten posts of all time were posted in 2020.
NEW CONTRIBUTOR
In 2020, The TV Ratings Guide added Harrison Cheung to its list of contributors. Harrison provides reviews and analysis for American Housewife. He is the author of the award-winning book “Christian Bale: The Inside Story of the Darkest Batman.”
RENEW/CANCEL PREDICTIONS
The TV Ratings Guide had more accurate renew/cancel predictions than any other website in the 2019-20 season. In our five year history, this marks the third time we placed above all others.
