ABC staple New Year's Rockin' Eve (1.35/1.90) was down in the key demo from 2024, but it was easily the top program of the night. CBS placed second with Nashville's Big Bash (0.58/0.63). On NBC, A Toast to 2025! (0.34) grew from the Wicked: One Wonderful Night repeat (0.25) that led into it. Ratings Analysis: On ABC, New Year's Rockin' Eve (1.50/2.43/4.73) was down significantly from 2023 (1.83/2.95/5.33) but remained a massive force in the Adults 18-49 demographic. In the 8 p.m. time slot, CBS's New Year's Eve Live (0.69) was more than a full point below last year's NFL-inflated installment (1.77) but improved (1.12/1.57) as the evening progressed. NBC struggled to keep up with A Toast to 2024! (0.37) and Seth Meyers New Year's (0.27). Fox re-aired Kitchen Nightmares (0.12). On the CW, WWE NXT (0.15, +0.01) ticked up. Key: (R) = repeat.

Ratings Analysis: On the day after Christmas, there was little interest in the 2024 installment of ABC's The Year (0.19). The annual recap special dropped from the rerun of High Potential (0.22) that led into it and was more than a full tenth below the 2023 installment (0.30). NBC re-aired Hot 10 of 2024 (0.25) and Dolly Parton's Mountain Magic Christmas (0.14). Repeats of Ghosts (0.21/0.17) and Matlock (0.12) aired on CBS. Fox went with encores of Hell's Kitchen (0.11/0.12). Over on the CW, Scrabble (0.07, +0.03) jumped for its finale, and Trivial Pursuit (0.09, +0.03) also soared. Key: (R) = repeat. (F) = finale.

Sunday TV Ratings 12/31/23: New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Rises Above Last Year, CBS New Year’s Eve Live Soars with NFL Help (UPDATED w/Analysis)

Ratings Analysis: On the final day of 2023, New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest (1.83/2.95) proved to be an even bigger success than usual for ABC. The program was 35% higher when compared to its 2022 broadcast (1.36/2.18) during primetime hours and broke the 5.0 barrier by 11:30. CBS tried to compete with New Year's Eve Live: Nashville's Big Bash! (1.77/1.42) but trailed ABC, even with NFL Overrun help. NBC stayed out of the New Year's special business, but their Packers v. Vikings NFL game (4.49) still excelled. Fox aired reruns of Hell's Kitchen (0.31), The Simpsons (0.22), Krapopolis (0.16), Bob's Burgers (0.15), and Family Guy (0.16). The CW re-ran Christmas with the Chosen: Holy Night (0.05).
