NCIS, NCIS: Hawaii and NCIS: Los Angeles Renewed by CBS

NCIS, NCIS: Hawaii and NCIS: Los Angeles Renewed by CBS

One of CBS's longest-running franchises will continue onward into next season, as the Tiffany Network has announced that its trio of current NCIS series have all been picked up for additional seasons. All three shows have performed well for CBS this season, with NCIS rating as their #3 drama, NCIS: Hawaii rating as their #4 drama, and NCIS: LA rating as their #7 drama. NCIS made a move this season from its longtime Tuesday slot to a Monday slot behind Bob Hearts Abishola. It fell 30% from last season, but improved upon the previous time slot occupant (All Rise), helping to launch NCIS: Hawaii and revitalize CBS's struggling Monday night lineup, all while losing the show's star, Mark Harmon. NCIS will enter its landmark 20th season next year, while NCIS: Los Angeles will enter an impressive 14th season and the fledgling NCIS: Hawaii will enter season two. All three shows are correct predictions for The TV Ratings Guide.

Tuesday TV Ratings 11/24/20: 400th NCIS and Big Sky Hold Steady, The Bachelorette Drops Again (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: The value of ABC's 'Big Sky' (0.7) went up dramatically in week two as the new drama held even with last week's premiere despite its 'Bachelorette' lead-in (1.2) shedding two-tenths. Needless to say, this is a major step in the right direction for the alphabet network's latest entry. Over on CBS, 'NCIS' (0.9) held even for its 400th episode while 'FBI' (0.8) lost a tenth and 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.7) actually gained one. 'The Voice' (0.9) lost two-tenths on NBC while 'Transplant' (0.4) was flat at 10pm. Sandwiched in-between was a repeat of 'Weakest Link' (0.6) that managed to beat out yesterday's original episode (0.5). Fox's 'Cosmos' (0.3) matched last week's performance while drama 'Next' (0.2) inched down to a new low. The second installment of CW's 'Gilmore Girls' reboot (0.1) held steady with yesterday.

Finals Update: 'The Bachelorette' (1.3, +0.1), 'The Voice' (1.0, +0.1), 'FBI' (0.9, +0.1), and a repeat of 'The Weakest Link' (0.7, +0.1) all adjusted up.

NCIS Renewed for Season 16

The #1 drama on CBS will be back next season. NCIS has been renewed today for a sixteenth season, not that its future was ever really in any doubt. It is the first CBS Tuesday show to be renewed for next season, and it joins fellow dramas SWAT and SEAL Team on the schedule next year. The series first premiered on the network in 2003 and has been a staple of the network's schedule ever since. The series stars Mark Harmon, who has signed on for next season, as well as a large supporting cast that includes David McCallum, Sean Murray, and the departing Pauley Perrette. The season is currently averaging a 1.4 in the golden 18-49 demographic. This was a correct prediction for the TV Ratings Guide.

Everyone knows Dick Wolf, Anthony Zuiker (CSI), and Chuck Lorre, amongst others, as creators of timeless, legendary shows. But did you know that they've also created their fair share of ratings disappointments? Also, did you know that your favorite procedural drama franchise wasn't comprised

NCIS Franchise

You've heard of NCIS, NCIS: LA, and NCIS: NO, all hits at one point or another, with NCIS remaining one of CBS's main staples and NCIS: NO also doing better than most dramas. But did you know that in between NCIS: LA and NCIS: NO, CBS was planning a spinoff of the franchise tentatively titled NCIS: Red? Well, despite being a part of their prized franchise, the show never made it past the pilot stage--meaning it must have been bad, and I mean BAD, since they didn't trust in the power of the NCIS franchise to save the ratings of this one.

Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior

In the winter of hit CBS drama Criminal Minds' sixth season, CBS premiered a spinoff entitled Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior. After premiering well it went down to a 2.4 A18-49 number for its second episode, airing out of a 3.2 for the parent show. For its season (and series) finale, Criminal Minds was a repeat and hit a 1.4--Suspect Behavior fell down to a 1.8, and given that just five years ago were much different times, it was cancelled, never to make it past its 13 episode order.

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland

In the 2013-2014 season, ABC ordered a spin-off of Once Upon a Time. It was originally intended to air as a bridge series while Once Upon a Time would go on winter hiatus, but when the schedule was released it was revealed it grabbed a fall spot in the dreaded time slot of Thursday at 8. It premiered to a weak 1.7, and it was all downhill from there. By the time of its finale it hit a 0.9 A18-49 number--and that wasn't even the season low. Putting things into perspective, Once Upon a Time had a 2.1 that week, and Wonderland's lead-out of Grey's Anatomy had a 2.7.

Other: Chuck Lorre

Even though Chuck Lorre hasn't really created any franchises, I think he's also a solid case.
