CBS Renew/Cancel (9/21-3/18) -- Good News Not In Store For Good Sam

Good Sam averages a 0.28 A18-49 rating after its first six episodes, enough to crack the Top 25 for CBS. Unfortunately for Good Sam, that’s not enough on a network with 24 shows. What’s worse for the show, it airs in an ideal time slot: Wednesdays at 10 pm, directly after The Amazing Race (0.60 average). CBS may not be able to beat Chicago P.D. in the time slot, but surely they can come closer to it than Good Sam. Unless CBS’s only goal in the time slot is to barely beat ABC’s A Million Little Things and its 0.26 average, Good Sam is shaping up to be one and done.

CBS did confirm they have higher aspirations in the Thursday at 10 pm time slot than Bull’s 0.34 average. As predicted, the aging and scandal-plagued drama won’t return for a seventh season. It was only one spot in the rankings above Good Sam. Depending on what CBS does about B-Positive and United States of Al, they could be looking at a revamped Thursday night in the fall.

At least Thursday comedy Ghosts is clicking with audiences, as it has been renewed for another season as expected. Ghosts is practically tied with ABC’s Abbott Elementary and NBC’s La Brea for #1 new show in Live + Same Day, and allows CBS to breathe a sigh of relief that the time slot formerly occupied by Mom didn’t tank surrounded by two middling comedies.

The Monday comedy block of The Neighborhood and Bob Hearts Abishola was also renewed as expected. Soon to enter its fourth season, it won’t be long until Bob Hearts Abishola sneaks up on our televisions in syndication. The Neighborhood, meanwhile, has proved its early haters wrong and lasted long past its initial 13 episode order.
