Writer’s Block Season 3 Episode 3: Quitting

JACK and NOAH are in a local coffee shop sitting together at a table. JACK looks up from his phone.

JACK
Welp.

NOAH

Welp what?

JACK

Another writer just quit.

NOAH
Another writer? Since when did even one writer quit?

JACK
Alright don’t kill me, but I ran the idea change by the writers. Not all of them liked it.

NOAH
So they quit just like that?

JACK
Looks that way. But hey, at least that’s four less people that need to get paid.

NOAH
Four?! And they all signed contracts! The network is paying them no matter what!

JACK
We can make this work. Really all we need are me and you to put in a lot of effort.

NOAH

So our writers are quitting, our ratings are tanking, and our showrunner wants nothing to do with the show.

JACK
If you say it like that it sounds bad, yeah.

NOAH

I said it how it is.

JACK stands up and walks over to the next table, where he sees a woman, 30s, sitting alone.

NOAH overhears JACK asking her if she wants to write for a TV show.

JACK walks away from the woman and returns.

JACK
I just got us a writer.

NOAH

Really?! What’d she work on before?

JACK

Nothing, and she’s never thought about being a TV show writer before, but hey, we have someone now!

NOAH
It’s that easy? Let me try!

NOAH walks away and returns after a few minutes.

JACK

How many did you get?

NOAH

I was told to go to Hell.

JACK

Better luck another time. But at least for now there’s me, you, the other writers, and—

The woman JACK scouted walks over to the table and says she’s changed her mind.

JACK

Okay, so we might not have made progress today, but—

NOAH
This is your fault.

JACK
We’ll make it through. I don’t know about you but I finished my coffee, no point in me being here any longer.

JACK and NOAH stand up and leave.
