BRITTANEY

EDISON
Why can’t we know the gender again?
BRITTANEY
I want it to be a surprise.
EDISON
Britt, we’re two 22-year-old university students who are pregnant. I think the last thing we need, is a surprise.
BRITTANEY
Well, I want to wait.
EDISON
(Sigh)
Fine. Well, this surprise is costing us. I got the doctor’s bill. Combine that with our rent and well… I think you get the picture.
BRITTANEY
We knew this would be difficult for us financially.
EDISON
I know. I asked my family for some money, but things are tight for them right now. What about your parents?
BRITTANEY
I think I can get them to pay for our part of the rent.
EDISON
And I’ll get a job to pay for the other stuff.
Edison removes his hand from Brittaney’s belly.

They’re probably asleep.
INT. PIZZA PALACE - DAY
Edison stands at the cash register. A customer walks up to him.

Welcome to pizza palace where the pizza is divine, what can I get you today?
CUSTOMER
I will have… spaghetti.
EDISON
I’m sorry sir we don’t serve spaghetti.
CUSTOMER
This is an Italian restaurant, correct?
EDISON
Yes, an Italian PIZZA restaurant. With over 40 locations.
CUSTOMER
I’m just gonna go to Olive Garden.
The customer leaves. Andrew and Megan enter the restaurant.
EDISON
What are you all doing here?
MEGAN
Brittaney told us you got a job here and naturally, we had to see it to believe it.
ANDREW
So how is it so far?
EDISON
Not bad. Its food service so a part of me feel like I want to scream.
ANDREW
Good pay?
EDISON
$15 an hour. Gonna make that bank.
MEGAN
You realize that’s minimum wage.

Edison taps the register.

Look man I can’t just give you stuff. I’ve already got two strikes.
MEGAN

Point is, I can’t do anything that’ll get me fired.

Edison enters the house and collapses on the couch. Brittaney enters the living room.
BRITTANEY
Hey, are you okay?
EDISON
I just. I just feel like a failure. I got my first paycheck. It’s barely enough.
Brittaney sits down next to Edison.
BRITTANEY
You listen to me. You are not a failure. You’ve stayed by my side since the beginning. You are more of a man than anyone.
