It's a cruel summer on Fox, with the network canceling both of their Tuesday spring dramas today on the heels of their recent finales. Alert, which ended its third season last week, and The Cleaning Lady, which aired its season four finale this Tuesday, have both been canceled by Fox. The network delayed making decisions on the series at their upfronts last month, when most pickups and cancellations would typically be announced by, waiting to announce the bad news about both series until after their runs ended. Both series were among the lowest-rated shows on Fox - and all of broadcast TV, each averaging 0.13 in the key 18-49 demo this season. That's not far off from the previous seasons, when they were both given suprirrisng renewals in spite of their poor ratings. The factors that allowed them to survive last season weren't enough this time around. The Cleaning Lady's cancellation is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide, while Alert is a miss.

The Cleaning Lady: In early 2022, The Cleaning Lady was a promising newbie with decent ratings. Now, The Cleaning Lady is the lowest-rated scripted series on the Fox network. The fourth-season drama dipped to a new season low on April 8th, garnering a meager 0.12rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. Its streaming performance remains lackluster, as the series continues to chart below Alert: Missing Persons Unit in the Hulutop 15. Since its performance has not improved, the series remains Likely to be Canceled.
Animal Control: Though it has not aired an episode in a month, Animal Control has been upgraded to a Likely Renewal. Futon Critic recently revealed that Fox will air a rerun of the season three premiere on April26th. This is a sign that the network wants to continue championing the series. And while the network does have multiple comedies in development, it is unlikely that they will pick up more than one or two, if any at all. They only ordered one live-action sitcom in the 2024-2025 television season (Going Dutch), and they generally don't pick up much more than that, at least in recent memory. That leaves plenty of room for Animal Control to return for another short stint. The series is not a complete lock for renewal, but it is likely to return for season four.
The Great North: It was just announced that The Great North will have its anchor privileges revoked. The series will now air at the bottom of the hour, with Krapopolis as its lead-in. This abrupt change does not bode well for the future of this fifth-season cartoon. If Fox is going to go out of its way to yank it out of its 9 p.m. perch, they have clearly lost faith in the comedy. The Great North will also be airing an original episode after a Krapopolis repeaton April 27th. This type of scheduling is a common sign that a network is finished with a series. The Great North is Likely to be Canceled.
Fox Renew/Cancel March Madness concludes!
The FOX Renew/Cancel March Madness semifinals are officially over. HI-Surf's powers waned a bit, but the drama outpaced its Family Guy competitor nonetheless. Family Guy actually received more votes than it did in round two, and it clearly did better than the other shows that went up against HI-Surf, but it was ultimately not enough. In the other match-up, Alert: Missing Persons Unit lost out to 9-1-1: Lone Star.

Alert: Missing Persons Unit: In 2024, Alert: Missing Persons Unit was one of the weakest shows on broadcast television, finishing out its sophomore season with an abysmal 0.11rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. In 2025, Fox's stock has dropped enough that Alert no longer stands out as some low-rated outlier. On premiere night, the procedural drama posted a 0.17 rating and built on its Cleaning Lady lead-in. Considering where it left off, this is a relatively fine start for the series. Its performance on Huluwas also noticeably better than The Cleaning Lady this week, meaning it has an edge over its lead-in in both live ratings and streaming. Though it hardly earned a renewal last season, it has clearly leveled up to some degree. Because of these factors, Alert is Likely to be Renewed. This show comes with a low cost, and this network clearly need something to plug into a low-priority time slot during the back-half of the season. Fox will gladly take it.
The Cleaning Lady: In its season four premiere, The Cleaning Lady returned with a 0.15Adults 18-49 rating, dropping 25% from last year's start. This becomes even worse when looking at the half-hour breakdown, as the series dipped all the way to a measly 0.12 by 8:30 (Programming Insider). On the streaming front, the crime drama only appeared in the Hulu top 15 once this week, whereas Alert made two appearances and charted higher. Though it cannot be considered completely dead on a network like Fox, it does feel like this may be the end of the road. Fox already has Doc and Murder in a Small Town for next season, and they are likely to pick up at least one or two new dramas. As a result, The Cleaning Lady is Likely to be Canceled. If Fox is going to keep one of these dramas around, it will most likely be Alert.The Cleaning Lady just doesn't have the ratings prowess or streaming presence to stick around.
Fox Renew/Cancel March Madness continues!
Round 1 voting is officially over for FOX Renew/Cancel March Madness. One major theme in this round was that the new-generation cartoons got completely obliterated. In their respective match-ups, The Great North and Universal Basic Guys each received a little more than 30% of the vote, with neither gaining enough support to advance to the next round. Things were even worse for Krapopolis and Grimsburg, as they took in just 15% and 13% respectively. The legacy cartoons fared much better. Family Guy, of course, completely demolished Krapopolis, taking in almost 85% of the vote. The Simpsons comfortably beat out its Cleaning Lady challenger, garnering 57%. And Bob's Burgers just barely scraped by, retaining just under 52% in a heated match with Accused.
With that said, round 2 voting is now under way! Make sure to vote for your favorite shows to ensure that they advance to the semi-finals. Polls will close on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

For Fox, the show's low production cost and strong international sales appear to have been the selling point on a fourth season. Elodie Yung, Martha Millan, Eva De Dominici, Kate del Castillo and Santiago Cabrera star in the series. The series' third season was its first without original co-star Adan Canto, who died of cancer during production of the season, with his character being written out midway through the season.

The Cleaning Lady:The Cleaning Lady returned for its third season on Tuesday, March 5th, but its numbers were clearly not what they used to be. The crime drama put together a 0.20 in the Adults 18-49 demographic, a rating that serves as a new series low for the program. This result felt inevitable given the extended hiatus and loss of the 9-1-1 lead-in, but that does not make the outcome any better. As a result of this underperformance, The Cleaning Lady is Likely to be Canceled for the time being. Fox is clearly having to rely more on reality programming for sufficient Nielsen ratings, because their scripted roster just isn't delivering. This one just doesn't have enough value for them to keep it around when something like Name That Tune could do about the same or better for a lesser cost.
Alert:Alert: Missing Persons Unit essentially falls into the same boat as The Cleaning Lady. The police procedural opened season two with a pitiful 0.18 rating, setting a new series low out the gate. This one definitely showed some signs of life when it was growing from Fantasy Island last season, but it seems any potential it might have had in winter 2023 has evaporated. Alert is Likely to be Canceled.
Animal Control:Animal Control started its second season with a modest 0.21rating and shed about half of its Masked Singer lead-in (0.41). In comparison, its first season ended with a 0.22rating behind a 0.41. To characterize this performance as solid would be a massive stretch, but the sitcom is clearly doing about the same as it was last season. And since Fox has already Renewed the series for a third season, they are clearly okay with this below-average delivery.
Family Guy:Family Guy is yet another Fox show to return with a new series low this March. The animation staple was booted to Wednesdays and managed just a 0.20 rating in its time slot debut. Considering its lead-in was only a hundredth higher and it's airing in the 9:30 slot, this is a fine performance. It is certainly better than the abysmal Sunday lineup that is regularly full of 0.1s. Still, Family Guy is a series that was far more reliable in years past. This level is well below what it's used to, even on a historically-adjusted basis.
