TV Ratings 7/31/17: TTTT Monday Debut Goes OK, CBSN Anemic, Midnight Holds Up Well (UPDATED)

Monday was another eventful night for broadcast TV. CBS debuted a new show, CBSN: On Assignment, for some reason. The series received a decent amount of promotion, but you couldn't tell by its ratings. It could only tie the Scorpion repeat from last week, and it flopped hard. But it's not like this is unexpected, it has a 0.5 for a lead-in and is airing at 10 deep into the Summer. But hey, it's only a tenth below Zoo and Candy Crush, which have lead-ins of almost 4x the lead-in of CBSN. So that's something to its credit. It was surrounded by repeats of comedies at 0.6/0.5/0.5/0.5. ABC had the Men Tell All special of the Bachelorette, and the series surprisingly was down only a tenth, rating above 2016's special. Behind it was the Monday debut of To Tell the Truth. It went okay, with a two tenth increase for ABC's only Summer game show that will air in fall. ABC has treated this show so weird, and the show actually won't even be on next week, so this will be its only week with the Bachelorette lead-in. Over on NBC, Summer's only new scripted show that isn't a colossal failure,
Midnight, Texas, was down a tenth to a decent-but-unspectacular 0.8. Its lead-in was a stead American Ninja Warrior. Fox had the finale of flop Superhuman, and it truly went out with a whimper with a 0.5, but at least it's steady. Also steady is SYTYCD, which expands to two hours next week. The CW had a switcheroo in its schedule, and Hooten & the Lady is now the 9 PM Monday series, replacing Whose Line?, which moves to Thursday. Hooten kept chugging along at 0.2, a tenth below last week's Whose Line? original/repeat combo.

Finals Update: To Tell the Truth (-0.1) adjusted down.

TV Ratings 7/24/17: Midnight, Texas Does OK, Somewhere Between Ties Still Star-Crossed (UPDATED)

Monday night saw two brand new premieres, one on ABC and one on NBC. NBC's premiere predictably went much better, with Midnight, Texas debuting to a perfectly fine 0.9. It's nothing fantastic, but it should be enough to survive as long as it can hold up. That makes it the highest rated Summer scripted debut of the year (not counting Downward Dog, which technically premiered in-season but had a 1.1 debut). Midnight's lead-in, American Ninja Warrior, was down a tenth from last week, tying its season-to-date average. Over on ABC, Somewhere Between had a larger lead-in than Midnight (a 1.6 Bachelorette), but it could only manage a 0.6. It's another flop in a long line of Summer disappointments for ABC, and there's really been no standouts from this Summer class. They're a bunch of low-rated duds. But hey, at least Somewhere Between did better than Still Star-Crossed. Not exactly a benchmark for success there, but it's something. Over on Fox, SYTYCD once again did meh, while Superhuman once again did terrible. What a surprise. The CW's Whose Line? was the only other original last night, and it ticked up to a 0.3, with the 9:30 repeat also ticking up.  CBS had okay-rated repeats for the first two hours before Scorpion's 0.4 at 10.

Finals Update: Somewhere Between (-0.1) adjusted down to tie the Still Star-Crossed debut. A Life in Pieces repeat (-0.1) also came down in the finals.

TV Ratings 7/17/17: Bachelorette and American Ninja Warrior Rise, SYTYCD Inches Down (UPDATED)

ABC's The Bachelorette (1.6) rose two-tenths from its last outing and was the top program of the night. This was the show's highest result since its premiere for this season. The lead-in continued to be wasted on game show repeats with Battle of the Network Stars (0.6) improving a tenth from last week's Gong Show encore (though it will most likely adjust down to match Gong Show).

NBC had some good news as American Ninja Warrior (1.5) also rose from its last installment. At 10, Spartan (1.0) was steady with last week.

FOX had unwelcome downticks as So You Think You Can Dance (0.7) hit a new low. Superhuman (0.5) was still a tick above its 0.4 Fourth of July low, but this number is still awful.

CBS (0.6/0.6/0.6/0.6/0.5) and The CW (0.2/0.2/0.2) had a mixture of comedy and drama repeats.

Finals Update: All shows held their preliminary ratings.

TV Ratings 7/10/17: Whose Line? Returns Steady, Superhuman and NBC Shows Bounce Back (UPDATED)

It was a decent Monday night for the networks, with many shows ticking up from previous lows. NBC had solid gains, with both shows up multiple tenths. Ninja Warrior ticked up three, while Spartan was up two. ABC's reality staple the Bachelorette was up two tenths from its special Tuesday episode to a (still below-average) 1.4. A Gong Show repeat did a decent 0.6 behind it, down just a tenth from its last original and above anything Still Star-Crossed ever did in the slot. It was, however, a good deal lower than the Celebrity Family Feud repeat from a few weeks ago. Fox had a steady episode of SYTYCD at 8. Superhuman ticked up two tenths from its July 3rd-fueled low. The CW's Whose Line? returned after a few weeks off, and was steady.

Finals Update: A repeat of the Gong Show (-0.1) adjusted down.

TV Ratings 7/3/17: 'Superhuman' Collapses, 'American Ninja Warrior' and 'Spartan' Fall to New Lows (UPDATED)

Finals Update: American Ninja Warrior (1.1) adjusted up.

On the eve of the Fourth of July, most networks decided to sit it out, but those foolish enough to stay original were met with ugly results. NBC's American Ninja Warrior (1.0) and Spartan (0.8) both fell to new lows with the former falling four-tenths and the latter falling two.

Fox's Superhuman (0.4) was the only non-NBC original and also collapsed to a new series low after hitting an already brutal one last week. It led out of a repeat of So You Think You Can Dance (0.4).

ABC had repeats of The Bachelorette (0.4) and Battle of the Network Stars (0.4).

CBS had comedy repeats (0.5/0.5/0.5/0.4) and Scorpion (0.4).

The CW had repeats of Supergirl (0.2) and Whose Line Is It Anyway? (0.2/0.2).
