Welcome to First Week Peak, a column which discusses shows that are about to premiere on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Paramount+, HBO Max, Peacock, Hulu, and/or Apple TV. Each discussion concludes with a prediction for the show's weekly peak performance on their respective streaming service's U.S. trending chart, including a reader poll. Final results can be found in our weekly What's Trending On Streaming column. Let us know what you think in the comments!
Premieres: August 26 on Netflix
Genre: Docuseries
Docuseries have consistently performed well on Netflix. Based on recent performances from shows like The Idaho Murders: College Nightmares, there is reason to believe Death of the Pastor's Wife could be Netflix's next docuseries sensation.
The case that Death of the Pastor's Wife follows isn't quite as high-covered as that of The Idaho Murders. Death of the Pastor's Wife is also one of three new series premiering on Netflix in the coming week, which means it will have competition.
Premieres: August 27 on Netflix
Genre: Soap opera
Season 2 Part 2, which dropped in March 2026, spent four days atop Netflix's Top 10 chart. Per Television Stats, its Attention Score for that batch of episodes peaked at an 18.0. If it could replicate that score today, it would be the third-highest currently on Netflix. Per Nielsen, the series peaked with 1.42 billion minutes viewed in its first week for this batch of episodes, and held well with 1.36 billion minutes viewed in its second week. This put it atop Nielsen's streaming originals chart. Its current 1.1 Attention Score per Television Stats, while heftily down from its peak, is even with its score this far ahead of Season 2 Part 2's premiere.
While the quick turnaround for Season 3 should make Beauty in Black relatively top of mind for viewers, it could also cause overexposure. Between the premiere of this, Death of a Pastor's Wife, and Leanne, plus last week's premiere of the final season of Outer Banks and the still-robust Tires, viewers will have many options on Netflix soon. If Outer Banks does not come down to earth by August 27, Beauty in Black will very likely miss the top spot.
Premieres: August 27 on Netflix
Genre: Multi-cam sitcom
Leanne's first season did fairly well. It debuted at #7 on Netflix's weekly Top 10 list with 2.7 million views, then ticked up to #6 with 2.8 million views in its second week despite Season 2 of Wednesday dropping that same week. It also peaked at a healthy 14.7 Attention Score per Television Stats. Plus, if the Chuck Lorre sitcom has a breakout moment in its upcoming season, it wouldn't be the first comedy to do so on Netflix this month.
If Leanne matches its Season 1 performance, it will do well enough to make an appearance on Netflix's Top 10 chart, but it will likely miss out on the top spot given the competition. It premieres the same day as Beauty in Black, which makes it very tough to expect both, if either, to reach #1.
Premieres: August 27 on Hulu
Genre: Single-camera comedy
Adults' current 3.1 Attention Score per Television Stats demonstrates an interest in the series, which will air as a Hulu original this season before getting a second window on FX and FXX throughout the coming weeks. This is a strategy that's worked for The Shards, which peaked at #1 on Hulu. Adults also peaked decently when its first season was binge-released in June 2025, when it debuted and peaked at #4 on Hulu.
The special episode of Adults that aired in July only mustered a 6.8 Attention Score and debuted at #11 on Hulu, dipped to #13 the next day, and proceeded to fall off the chart entirely. Its first season's success was also pretty short-lived on Hulu, as it fell below the top 10 in less than a week.
Premieres: August 28 on Apple TV
Genre: Sci-fi drama
Dark Matter has already re-entered Apple TV's Top 10 chart at #10. It's virtually guaranteed to make a chart appearance upon the premiere of its second season; it's only a matter of how high it goes. It already has a 4.1 Attention Score per Television Stats, which is the 15th-highest among Apple TV shows. The fact Dark Matter isn't a guaranteed #1 debut despite these facts just goes to show how far Apple TV has come recently.
With Ted Lasso and Silo ongoing, Dark Matter may have a tough time cracking the top 2. If it matches its 21.8 Attention Score peak, it would currently barely come in fourth place on the streaming service. Then again, Apple TV has grown pretty significantly since that score was obtained back in summer 2024.
