Following the finale of one of The CW's only new series that's premiered thus far, it feels like a good time for another update to The CW Renew/Cancel. Keep reading for the updated prediction for 4400!
4400: One of the CW's lowest-rated in-season originals, 4400 wrapped up its first season earlier this week. While The CW is rarely known to cancel shows, there's actually quite a few worrying signs here. One is that the network brought it back at a time in which very few original scripted shows were airing, suggesting an urgency in getting it off the air. That makes some sense, as the All American spinoff is on its way and is likely a much bigger priority, but it still doesn't look great for its long-term prospects. Another troubling sign is that the show's ratings really are abysmal. Only one - on premiere night - has the show rated at a 0.10 or above. Its 0.07 average is terrible, especially considering that its lead-in is the CW's highest-rated show. While The CW isn't known to care about ratings, that suggests that there's probably not much interest in this show at all, and may struggle to find an audience in streaming, which is what The CW cares most about. After the finale aired, 4400's creator sounded mixed on whether there'd be a second season, which could be either them being cautious or a genuine sign that The CW may be considering canceling it. Either way, I've come around to the idea that this will be the rare one-and-done CW show, and I'm moving it to LEANS CANCELLATION.
