CBS Renew/Cancel: Preseason Predictions

Hey everyone! This is my first post for The TV Ratings Guide and I am pretty excited to get started! Before we do, I just wanted to introduce myself to you all. I have been following television ratings since the summer of 2007, so this is officially my eleventh season as a ratings follower. For a few years I ran my own television blog, but time eventually got in the way of turning that into a success. I hope to bring some of those skills over here to The TV Ratings Guide. Some of my current favorite shows include Law and Order: SVU, Superstore, and Survivor. When I am not watching television or following the ratings, I like to spend my time outdoors, especially in the mountains hiking. I look forward to getting to know all of you over the next couple of months as I write for the CBS Renew/Cancel prediction page. If you have any questions, reach out to me here, on SpottedRatings, or through my Twitter (@rjfucci). Without further ado, lets get started...

To start things off, lets get a few clear-cuts out of the way. CBS has already announced The Big Bang Theory will end with its upcoming twelfth season. Additionally, every new series is in the toss-up category until we at least have one weeks worth of data (so by next week, every new series except October debuts, Happy Together and The Neighborhood). I debated whether or not to make some predictions, but I am going to wait until we have some actual data to base those predictions.

Now we can move onto the other veterans and some predictions for them, starting with Criminal Minds in the toss-up category. It is the only veteran series that is not in either renewal category. With only a 15 episode season confirmed (for now), it appears things may be coming to an end for the crime drama now heading into its 14th season. CBS claims the episode order is because they do not have space, but with declining ratings and growing costs, its very possible this is the end. However, I will wait for some ratings before moving it toward cancellation or renewal.

In the likely to be renewed category, a number of long-running veteran shows appear, like Blue Bloods and Hawaii Five-0. I am sure both will be back for another season, but they are both heading into their ninth season, so there could be some complex contract negotiations in the way. Bull heads to its new Monday 10pm timeslot, and that adds a bit of uncertainty to its future. SEAL Team and SWAT are both sophomore dramas with tough timeslot competition ahead of them, and things could get ugly for them very quickly. Madam Secretary, despite ugly ratings on Sunday nights, has its massive syndication deal keeping it in the running for a few more seasons. And last but not least, there is MacGyver. This may be closer to toss-up, however, I do not see CBS pulling the plug after three seasons on a drama that is likely headed to syndication.

Moving onto the certain to be renewed, we find comedy mega-hit Young Sheldon as well as long-running Mom. Neither is in any apparent danger at this point. The only other certain renewals are the NCIS franchise, and they are not going anywhere any time soon. If you want to keep an eye on any of them, my guess would be NCIS: Los Angeles.
