Ratings Analysis: Despite having an NFL lead-in, the series premiere of The Hunting Party (0.46) did not seem to benefit on NBC. A rerun of Deal or No Deal Island (0.23) and Dateline (0.22) followed. CBS used their football game to boost Hollywood Squares (1.74, +1.38) and got a much better result. On ABC, the network's broadcast of the 2017 film Beauty and the Beast (0.22) improved on the week-ago Marley & Me. Fox went with repeats of Kitchen Nightmares (0.07), The Simpsons (0.11), Universal Basic Guys (0.07), Animal Control (0.07), and Going Dutch (0.10). Sunday TV Ratings 1/12/25: When Calls the Heart and Mayfair Witches Rise, Enormous Eagles/Packers NFL Game Easily Leads [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: On Fox, the Eagles v. Packers NFL game posted an enormous 9.02 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. After the game and The OT (4.60), the network used their Nielsen riches to boost reruns of Doc (0.88), Animal Control (0.30), and Going Dutch (0.22). All three went above their last original airings. NBC's Commanders v. Buccaneers NFL game (6.40) brought in massive ratings but trailed Fox's matchup. America's Funniest Home Videos (0.26, -0.01) ticked down on ABC and led into a pilot encore of Shifting Gears (0.15). Later in the night, a broadcast of the 2008 film Marley & Me (0.09) bombed. CBS aired 60 Minutes (0.37) and reruns of NCIS: Origins (0.18/0.13/0.12). The CW aired The Wedding Planner (0.04) and a Whose Line repeat (0.02). Key: (R) = repeat.

Ratings Analysis: On CBS, the Golden Globes (1.75) shed a single hundredth from the year-ago broadcast (1.76) in the Adults 18-49 demographic despite having noticeably less NFL help than it did in 2024. America's Funniest Home Videos (0.27, +0.02) rose on ABC, but the 9 p.m. showing of Toy Story 3 (0.16) was a tenth below the 8 p.m. AFHV encore (0.26). Fox used their NFL lead-in to inflate a pilot encore of Going Dutch (0.46), but the boost wore off by the time a repeat of Animal Control (0.19) rolled around. Repeats of Krapopolis (0.12) and Universal Basic Guys (0.10) occupied the 9 p.m. hour. The Vikings v. Lions NFL game posted a massive 6.24 rating on NBC. The CW aired the 2005 Will Smith film Hitch (0.06) and a rerun of Whose Line Is It Anyway? (0.03). Key: (R) = repeat.

Sunday TV Ratings 12/29/24: Jimmy Carter 20/20 Special Very Low, The Simpsons Nears Season High, Sunday Night Football Rises [+ Analysis]

Ratings Analysis: The death of former president Jimmy Carter prompted ABC to swiftly put together a 20/20 special about his life (0.11). But, despite the network's best efforts, there was little interest in the special, as it fell below both the repeat of America's Funniest Home Videos (0.15) that led into it and the 7 p.m. showing of Frozen (0.18). CBS went with two helpings of 60 Minutes (0.39/0.21) and a Grammy Greats special (0.13). On NBC, the Falcons v. Commanders NFL game (4.41) went more than three-tenths above the week-ago game (4.07). On Fox, The Simpsons (0.92, +0.66) got direct help from The OT (2.80) for the first time in a while and soared as a result. However, that meant that Universal Basic Guys (0.43, -0.13) was down for its finale, since it lost out on having the better slot for the night. Bob's Burgers (0.37, +0.04) grew a bit at 9 and led into the Fox Winter Preview special (0.23). The CW went with encores of Freddie Mercury: The Final Act (0.04) and Bob Hearts Abishola (0.03). Key: (R) = repeat. (F) = finale.
