Undateable Season 3 Finale Review (UPDATED)

Undateable Season 3 Finale Review (UPDATED)

TV Line
The third season of Undateable ends with this hour-long episode. It also may be the end of the series, as the ratings are not good. Will this be a good ending to the season/series? (Also, as usual, the post will be updated after I watch the east coast version.)

S3E12-13 "The Backstreet Boys Walk Into a Bar"

At the start of the episode, Charlotte is mad at Danny because he doesn't want to meet with her kid. Brett has convinced Candace to dye her hair red, and Justin doesn't like red hair. After Candace leaves the room, he shares the story about why he hates red hair, and it is sort of funny. The Backstreet Boys show up to help Justin surprise Candace. Leslie then kisses one of them, and after Brett pulls her off, he does the same, which is really funny. (In the east coast version, they just hugged one of them, not kissed.) Justin then proposes to Candace, and she says yes. Candace and Justin talk in his apartment, and Danny enters with a child on his head. It is really funny because Danny just behaves like normal. The kid is Charlotte's kid. After Candace exits, Danny tells Justin that he is surprised Justin didn't tell him he was going to propose. Danny pretends to speak Japanese, and it is really funny. Justin tells Danny that he is planning to move in with Candace on Valentine's Day. After Justin exits, Will, the kid, tells Danny not to be a bitch, and it is hilariously cute.

Candace doesn't know what to do for her wedding. She asks Charlotte what her wedding was like, and it is hilarious. Leslie and Burski are asked about their relationship, and Burski says that he was instructed to feel the way he does, which is really funny. Candace says that she wishes that she had her grandmother's ring, which her ex Trent sold, and she makes sad faces to convince Shelley to get it back for her. Candace tells the others what happened between Justin and Danny earlier, and they act it out, and it is hilarious. Then, we flash back to Danny and Justin's first meeting. Justin decides to make this right, and then Shelley kisses him, which is really random and funny.

Leslie, Brett, and Shelley find Trent stripping, and he reveals that he didn't sell the ring. Leslie and Brett both try talking to him, but are distracted hilariously. It is one really funny scene. Also, there was a really funny joke about how the group is a Republican's worst nightmare. (The scene wasn't quite as funny in the east coast version.) Justin and Danny talk, and Justin says that he is not planning on moving out of Danny's heart, which is hilarious. Justin tries to get Danny to admit that he is sad, but he doesn't. Justin says that he might as well move out now, and they both try to pretend that they are happy about it. For a moment, they forget what they are fighting about, and it is hilarious. Justin then says that he will move out by the morning. Then, the two fight for the last door slam, and forget what they are fighting about again, which is really hilarious.

Brett tells Burski and Charlotte what happened with Trent, and Leslie comes up with a hilarious plan of how to steal back the ring. Burksi and Leslie officially become a couple, and their exit is funny. Candace and Justin enter, and to make Justin happy, Candace decides they should pretend to be an old married couple, and it is hilarious. Justin, however, is too upset, and leaves. The Backstreet Boys play a song, as Justin and Danny express their anger and sadness all alone, which is really funny. Charlotte makes out with Trent, but he isn't wearing the stud. Charlotte texts to ask if she should sleep with Trent to get the diamond stud from his apartment, and Danny says no. (In the east coast version, Danny keeps keeping Justin from leaving the apartment by starting to say something, which is really funny.) All the boxes are packed up, and Danny realizes that Justin is actually moving out when he opens a box. Also, he fast-forwards past a rant from Leslie, which is really funny. Shelley and Leslie tell Danny to show his emotions to Justin.

Justin and his friends try to celebrate the engagement, but Justin isn't happy. Candace tells him to go after Danny, and this results in a hilarious series of running in and out of the bar by Danny and Justin. Shelley tells a story of Danny as a male stripper, and it is hilarious. When Danny gets back from "the bathroom" he makes a hilarious comment about how flashbacks are exhausting. Danny tells Candace that he got her the ring by getting Trent to Tampa. Danny says that he did it not only for Candace, but for his best friend. (In the east coast version, TV's Scott Foley enters, sad because he thought that he was Justin's best friend.) Danny agrees to be Justin's best man, and calls him "baby bird".

This was a hilarious episode. I especially loved the flashbacks, which were a great idea and were utilized very well.

Undateable S3E11 Review (UPDATED)

Undateable S3E11 Review (UPDATED)

King of the Flat Screen
This week the two storylines, Brett's citizenship test and Leslie's birthday, do not revolve around Danny, Justin, and Candace, which I think could be good because it can show off the rest of the cast's talents. Read on for my thoughts on the episode, and I will update the post with notes on the east coast version on Saturday afternoon. (I apologize that I didn't end up getting to this until Sunday afternoon.)

S3E11 "Danny's Boyz Walk Into a Bar"

The episode starts with Danny playing a hilarious game called State of the Union. This is really funny, I loved it. He pretends to be Barack Obama, and when he says something they like, they all stand and cheer, but when he says something they don't like, they just sit there. He gives an example, and then Justin tries, saying that the bar will show reruns of Whitney. Everyone just sits there, and Danny hilariously responded "NBC burned all those anyway." Hilarious! (In the east coast version, Justin says that he is going to sing Broadway karaoke, and only Candace stands, which is almost as funny.) Brett is preparing to take a citizenship test, and the others hilariously don't know where Congress meets. It's Leslie's birthday, and she does not want to celebrate it. This results in hilarious reminiscing about her past birthdays, and jokes about her mom. Burski comes up with a terrible plan to get Leslie to fall in love with him, but he has another plan involving giving her the perfect gift, but he doesn't know what that would be. Also, Candace sings a hilarious song to Justin.

Brett lost his lucky sweater, and he is nervous about taking his citizenship test without it. Danny has been watching reruns of CSI: Miami, so he thinks that he is a detective now, which is hilarious. Candace tries to figure out what Leslie wants for her birthday for Burski, but she says that she doesn't want anything. Danny, Justin, and Brett discover that a street dancer has found Brett's sweater and is wearing it. Danny challenges him to a dance off the next day in the bar.

The dance off is about to begin. Danny, Justin, Burski, Brett, Candace, and Leslie make up Danny's Boyz, or Justin's Boys and Girls, whoever you ask. Shelly pretends to be a priest, and he is going to judge the dance off, which is hilarious. I especially loved his prayer. The other guys win the dance off. Danny convinces Brett to take his test and that he doesn't need his sweater by caressing his face, which is really funny. Burksi is upset because Danny won't help him, and Shelley confiscates Danny's outfit, leaving him in his underwear, which is pretty funny. (In the east coast version, the underwear had Shelley's face on them, which is a little bit funnier than the west coast's zebra print briefs.)

Brett has passed his citizenship test, and there are some funny America jokes as the result of that. Burksi buys an expensive scarf for Leslie, but Danny advises him that Leslie wouldn't like that because it would remind her of her ex, and instead he should get her a candy necklace. She loves the necklace, and she asks him to go out on a birthday dinner with her. Justin gives a speech that ends in "God bless Danny Burton, God bless America, and, if this show gets picked up for another season, God bless the National Broadcasting Company," which I thought was a great ending.

This was a great episode. It was funny the whole way through, and the story was set up really well.

Undateable S3E10 Review (UPDATED)

Undateable S3E10 Review (UPDATED)
Undateable is once again live! The show returns for four more episodes (it has not been given more episodes to its season as of January 8th) beginning this week. As I usually do, I will review the west coast version on Friday night and then add notes after watching the east coast show on Saturday (in parentheses).

S3E10 "A New Year's Resolution Walks Into a Bar"

At the start of the episode, Justin asks Danny and Burski if he has told them about his New Year's Resolution. Danny asks if it is to dress like a junior high schooler, and he says that it is to not let people's words hurt him. It is not going well so far. This exchange was hilarious. Leslie drinks more wine, despite Brett reminding her about her New Year's Resolution. She asks if the road he is heading down feels safe, which got a huge laugh out of me. Shelley is excited that he has lost a hundred pounds. (In the east coast version, when Burski talked about the picture of Nicki Manaj's butt he put on the treadmill, he said that if Shelley got the butt, he wouldn't know what to do with it. Shelley insisted that he would know what to do with it. If this joke was in the west coast version, I missed it.) Charlotte enters wearing Danny's pants, which Candace notices is really sexy. After Justin makes a comment that doesn't come out well, Candace is convinced that she needs to be sexier. Danny says that he can teach Candace how to be sexy. He asks Charlotte to rate him in bed, and she says six, which is not what he was expecting. I loved Burski's line about how, together, they make a seven.

Danny cannot believe that Charlotte says he is a six because of his hips, which is really funny. Shelley enters through a poster, as he did before, and Justin asks him how many times he is going to do that. Brett tries to teach Danny what making love is by quoting Shakespeare. Justin tells him that there needs to be intimacy, and Danny pretends not to know that word, which is very funny. Justin decides to show Danny what he means by intimacy by showing him what he does with Candace, with him as Candace. At the bar, Candace wishes that Shelley was there to give her a hug. Leslie says that he could be behind the poster, and says something that would get him to come out, which is very funny, but he doesn't come out, so he must not be there. Charlotte and Leslie try to teach Candace how to be sexy. She isn't very good at this, so they show her. The two get very close and are about to kiss, which makes Burski make a comment about how ratings are going to go through the roof. Leslie backs out from the kiss, saying she would need more wine first. Shelley then enters, saying "I believe that's my cue," which was really funny.

Danny is hugging Charlotte like a koala bear, which is hilarious. Charlotte tells Danny that it's okay for him to change for her, she says that Candace is doing that for Justin right now. Outside, Candace tries to be sexy and ends up knocking Justin's tooth out. In the bar, Justin can't seem to avoid saying words with "s" in them, which is very funny. The group ends up splashing alcoholic beverages on each other. Except for Justin's difficulties in speaking, I didn't enjoy this scene very much. Candace tells Justin that she was just trying to be sexy for him, and he says that she is the sexiest girl alive. Danny remembers that Charlotte's favorite romantic scene is from The Notebook when it is raining, so Brett sprays Sprite on them as they kiss, and Justin exclaims that's how you make love.

The first two-thirds of the episode was hilarious, though the last third was lacking. Overall, it was still a really good episode.

Undateable S3E9 Review (Both Versions)

Undateable S3E9 Review (Both Versions)

NBC
As a result of being behind on many shows, once again I will review both versions of Undateable's episode before posting my review. And, as usual, I will review the west coast version first for consistency. Also, this week is the Christmas episode.

S3E9 "A Box of Puppies Walks into a Bar"

The episode starts with Danny and Charlotte talking to Justin and Candace. Charlotte tells Justin and Candace of a incident that morning, where Danny didn't stand up for Charlotte. Justin tells Danny about how he stood up for Candace the other day, and almost got beat up by a soccer mom, which was pretty funny. Shelley gives everyone sweaters, and Danny makes a joke about how he is on his sweatshirt, but really it is Jesus on his sweatshirt, and Danny claims they get confused often, which is really funny. (In the east coast version, Danny makes a hilarious joke about how this happens often at airport security.) Shelley asks the others to spend Christmas Eve with him, because they are his family. Later, Candace comes into the bar with a box of puppies. She explains that they are Mo's puppies, and she blames Justin who blames Danny. Candace says that she was told by Vince, the owner of the dog that got pregnant, that she is financially responsible for the puppies. Danny thinks this is crazy, until Vince enters the bar, revealing that he is a gigantic man. Charlotte makes a very funny joke about "the curious case of Danny's missing balls", which I loved.

Candace shares that she owes Vince twelve hundred dollars. She has no idea how to raise the money, but then Danny enters with a plan. He is dressed as Santa, and he brings along Justin, dressed as an elf, Burski, dressed as a reindeer, and Brett, dressed as a gingerbread. The plan involves them caroling. Candace has a little bit of hope for this plan, but Charlotte thinks it is crazy. The guys get chased by Vince's gang, and they pick up Danny to use him as a battering ram, which is kind of funny. The group gets the results of the test to determine whether or not Mo is the father of the puppies. This results in a hilarious scene. It is revealed that Mo is not the father. Danny says goodbye to Vince's gang, and members of the group head out. Justin remarks how he loves that things always seem to work out at Christmas, but Shelley is all alone on Christmas Eve, as the others forgot about him.

Shelley goes down into the bar, very upset. (While in the west coast version he is all alone, in the east coast version Brett is going to get a beer for him.) The others surprise him, they decide to change their plans to be with Shelley. He says that he wants to hear everyone's Christmas wishes. Burski wishes that Leslie would admit that their kiss meant something, and Leslie wishes that Burksi would understand that she is overwhelmed. Danny wishes that people would stop making wishes, but also shares that he loves his friends, which Brett also says. Justin adds on to that, saying that he hopes they can do this for a few more seasons. Shelley has three wishes, the first two are serious, and actually really great, and the third is that the new Star Wars movie doesn't suck. It was a great ending to the episode.

This was a great episode, one of Undateable's best. It was a great Christmas episode.

Undateable S3E8 Review (Both Versions)

Undateable S3E8 Review (Both Versions)

King of the Flat Screen
Since, again, I did not get a chance to watch Undateable on Friday night, I will not review just the west coast version and then later update the review after I watch the east coast version. Instead, I will watch both versions (beginning with the west coast one for consistency purposes) and then post the review.

S3E8 "A Bachelorette Party Walks Into a Bar"

A bachelorette party is taking place in the bar, and they give Candace some candy penises. Danny is hitting on the girls not getting married at the party, and Justin and Candace tell him that they are tired of getting to know whatever dumbass he is dating. But, it turns out that the girl that Danny found that he likes, Charlotte, played by Whitney Cummings, was the girl that Justin and Candace wanted him to be with. Shelley jokes that he hopes they work out this time, referring to Whitney getting canceled. Shelly refers to The Wiz Live and says that it's nice to see that many black people on TV outside of the NBA finals. Danny and Charlotte talk, and multiple jokes are made referring to Whitney. Then, a gospel choir sings a version of the Hallelujah chorus, singing "and they shall date for ever and ever", which was hilarious.

The group is wondering where Brett is, as he hasn't been seen since he went home with the guy he met last night. Justin tells Danny that it is a big deal to date someone with a kid, as he got attached to every guy that his mom dates, such as Jose and Esteban. His mom worked in a Mexican restaurant. When Charlotte shows up, Danny leaves, saying that he doesn't want to be her kid's Esteban. Then, Brett shows up, and it turns out that the guy he went home with was the groom.

Charlotte is angry at both Justin and Brett. She asks how she could tell her boss that her fiancée is gay, so Justin gives her some hilarious advice. They realize that Charlotte is like the female Danny, and Shelley says that he wishes he could meet the female Shelley, then a woman just like him shows up. Leslie and Burski show up at Danny's apartment, and encourage him to not give up on Charlotte. Danny does the dance that Kevin Bacon does in Footloose when he's angry that it is against the law to dance hilariously, and Burski says that he will be the encouraging voice in Danny's head. Justin is about to tell Charlotte's boss that her fiancée is gay, but Charlotte decides that this isn't a good idea. Danny, however, happens to show up at that moment, and accidentally reveals that the fiancée and Brett had sex. Danny asks Charlotte for a second chance, and she says yes.

Overall the episode was a great one. Whitney Cummings was a great guest star, and the storylines of the episode were great. The east coast and west coast versions were extremely similar, so that is why there are no notes of any differences between the two versions.
