Wednesday TV Ratings 1/20/21: NBC Leads Coverage of Celebrating America as ABC Special on President Biden’s Inauguration Leads at 8, The Conners Steady at Special Time, Riverdale Returns Stable (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: On another night where no show broke the 1.0 threshold, ABC's 'Biden Inauguration' coverage (0.8) narrowly beat out NBC's (0.7) in the 8pm hour. That quickly shifted at 8:30 when NBC's 'Celebrating America' special (0.8) took the lead over the alphabet network (0.6). ABC closed out the evening with a steady edition of 'The Conners' (0.6) and a shrinking 'Call Your Mother' (0.4). 'Mother' inched down from last Wednesday's series premiere. NBC capped their night off with a 'Chicago PD' encore (0.4). As it has done since September when it comes to election and political coverage, CBS trailed the other two with its Inauguration coverage (0.5) and 'Celebrating America' (0.4) special. They fell even lower in the 10pm hour with a rerun of 'Magnum PI' (0.2). Fox once more stayed out of the political arena but 'The Masked Dancer' (0.6) and 'Name That Tune' (0.6) seemed to suffer in the process. Both shows were down a tenth from their last installments. On the CW, 'Riverdale' (0.2) returned for its fifth season and 'Nancy Drew' (0.1) came back for its second. Both programs were two-tenths behind their previous season debuts from fall 2019.

Finals Update: NBC's Inauguration special (+0.1), Celebrating America on ABC (+0.1) and CBS (+0.1) and The Masked Dancer (+0.1) adjusted up. Riverdale (-0.1) adjusted down.
