Wednesday TV Ratings 8/23/23: Riverdale and Nancy Drew Rise in Series Finales, Big Brother and America’s Got Talent Slip, Superfan Continues to Embarrass (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: It was series finale night on the CW as 'Nancy Drew' (0.06, +0.01) and 'Riverdale' (0.05, +0.01) gained a hundredth apiece for their respective last episodes. Though neither drama set a new season high, they did avoid dropping for their final broadcasts. Over on CBS, reality offerings 'Big Brother' (0.62, -0.01) and 'Superfan' (0.14, -0.02) dealt with some small declines. 'Brother' topped the night as usual, while 'Superfan' lost to every (non-CW) show outside of the 10 p.m. 'So Help Me Todd' rerun (0.12). NBC's 'America's Got Talent' (0.50, -0.10) shed a full tenth when compared to Tuesday's episode and led into a rerun of 'Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter and Love' (0.19). 'MasterChef' (0.34, +0.02) picked up two-hundredths on Fox and was the third highest-rated broadcast in the Adults 18-49 demographic. ABC had a rerun marathon of 'Abbott Elementary' (0.21/0.20/0.20/0.16) and a lone 'Rookie' encore (0.11).

Wednesday TV Ratings 8/16/23: The Wonder Years Drops for Finale, Food Stars Finale Rises as MasterChef Hits Low, Superfan Gets Even More Embarrassing (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: ABC sitcom 'The Wonder Years' closed out season two by losing a hundredth at 9 p.m. (0.22, -0.01), even as 'Judge Steve Harvey' (0.30, +0.02) grew by two-hundredths. Things got even worse at 9:30 p.m. when 'Wonder Years' (0.18, -0.04) lost another fistful of Nielsens for its Disney-themed finale. The comedy ultimately went out with a whimper as it led into a 10 p.m. rerun of 'The Rookie' (0.11). On Fox, 'Gordon Ramsay's Food Stars' (0.25, +0.03) enjoyed a nice uptick for its finale and retained a solid amount of a sinking 'MasterChef' (0.32, -0.02). CBS powerhouse 'Big Brother' (0.62, +0.06) grew significantly from Sunday's episode (0.56) and was only a hundredth behind last Wednesday's outing. But, even though it easily topped the night, 'Brother' could not stop 'Superfan' (0.16, -0.06) from taking a sizable post-premiere drop. 'Superfan' retained just 26% of its lead-in and led into another rerun of 'So Help Me Todd' (0.10). The CW's 'Nancy Drew' (0.05, +0.02) picked up two ticks and was followed by a stable 'Riverdale' (0.04, 0.00). NBC had repeats of 'LA Fire & Rescue' (0.20), 'Chicago Fire' (0.14), and 'Chicago PD' (0.15).

Ratings Analysis: CBS's 'Superfan' (0.22) proved to be a complete dud on premiere night, retaining just 35% of its 'Big Brother' lead-in (0.63, -0.02 from Sunday). In the 10 p.m. hour, a rerun of 'So Help Me Todd' (0.14) placed third in its time slot. On Fox, 'MasterChef' (0.34, 0.00) held even and led into a rising 'Food Stars' (0.22, +0.03). NBC's 'LA Fire & Rescue' (0.25, +0.04) climbed higher for its season finale and led into repeats of 'Chicago Fire' (0.21) and 'Chicago PD' (0.19). ABC sitcom 'The Wonder Years' (0.23, +0.02) grew by two-hundredths when compared to last week's original. The alphabet network also reran 'Judge Steve Harvey' (0.28), 'Abbott Elementary' (0.16), and 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.15). Mystery drama 'Nancy Drew' (0.03, -0.01) lost a hundredth on the CW, but 'Riverdale' (0.04, +0.01) grew by one.

Ratings Analysis: Summer staple 'Big Brother' (0.72) had a very healthy return on CBS, coming in just 11% below its premiere from 2022 (0.81). 'Brother' fans quickly fled by the time repeats of 'Young Sheldon' (0.23) and 'CSI: Vegas' (0.16) rolled around. On Fox, 'MasterChef' (0.34, 0.00) held steady after taking a week off, but 'Gordon Ramsay's Food Stars' (0.19, -0.05) crashed to a new series low. ABC programs 'Judge Steve Harvey' (0.28, +0.03) and 'The Wonder Years' (0.21, +0.04) gained a few ticks each. The alphabet network also reran 'Abbott Elementary' (0.16) and 'AFV' (0.14). NBC's 'LA Fire & Rescue' (0.21, -0.01) shed a hundredth and led into more reruns of 'Chicago Fire' (0.15) and 'Chicago PD' (0.13). Wednesday TV Ratings 7/26/23: Big Brother 25th Anniversary Special Abysmal, Women’s World Cup Rises from Previous USA Game, The Wonder Years Sets New Low (UPDATED)

Ratings Analysis: The 'Big Brother: 25th Anniversary Celebration' special (0.17) was completely rejected by CBS viewers and dropped significantly from the rerun of '60 Minutes' (0.24) that led into it. In the 10 p.m. hour, the 'CSI Vegas' encore (0.10) was over a full tenth lower than last week. On Fox, the USA v. Netherlands match-up propelled the 'FIFA Women's World Cup' (1.95) to new heights. This number was almost four-tenths higher than Friday's 'USA v. Vietnam' game (1.56). ABC's 'The Wonder Years' (0.17, -0.06) slipped to a new low after taking two weeks off. 'Judge Steve Harvey' (0.25, -0.02) also lost some ground. Reruns of 'Abbott Elementary' (0.15) and 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.11) followed the originals. NBC's 'LA Fire & Rescue' (0.22, -0.01) shed a hundredth and led into encores of 'Chicago Fire' (0.14) and 'Chicago PD' (0.18). 'Nancy Drew' (0.03, -0.01) lost a hundredth on the CW, but 'Riverdale' (0.02, +0.01) picked one up after falling to that dreadful 0.01 a week prior.
